Yep - I tried a few varieties at a book launch a few weeks ago, and a few days later I bought a quater cake at the Bemowo store in Warsaw. Fantastic! They taste like my childhood, exactly like the cakes in Casula!
Hi.
I know what you are talking about, I used to use the cream a lot when I lived in Europe. I would specially go to Poland to buy the Polish food.
If you cant find the cream, here is a home-made version of the cream. It takes longer to make but it does not contain the chemicals that it would otherwise have. Plus the ingredients are more widely available.
boil 400 ml of milk with vanilla pod (or in Poland, we would use vanilla extract), meanwhile in a cup (or bowl) mix with 4tbsp of sugar , 2tbsp of regular flour (the one you would use to bake cakes) and 2tbsp potato starch flour. mix well so no lump form. then mix the mixture into boiling milk and boil until it thickens.
let the mixture to cool.
once the thick mixute is cooled, mix with 250g butter (soft, best if at room temperature) (I know thats a lot of butter). best to mix with the help of a mixer until the mixture is smooth and then you are ready to use it however you like.
