Law / Raiffeisen Bank in Poland [10]

Is this bank legitimate? I've been hearing horror stories of scammers left and right everywhere and am weary in transferring money to a bank i've never seen.

Life / Moving to Poland next year, want to bring my Nissan Skyline [46]

It is twin turbo AWD. I spun a rod bearing drag racing it at Cayuga, ran a 14.0 with the engine crapping out halfway down the track. It should be pushing 350hp after the rebuild with a new twin plate clutch. Gonna be starting it the next weekend when the roads are clear so I can properly break the motor in. If you have facebook I can show you the rebuild pics. I am hoping to ship it to Amsterdam and drive it across Europe with the destination being Poland early next year once the snow clears.

Life / A couple, mid 30's considering retiring in Poland. [19]

I too am retiring and moving to Poland in a couple of months, but I am not in my 30's yet. I have both my 309A and 442 licenses. I was wondering how is your husband planning on getting his electrician's paperwork there? Is he familiar with the wiring methods used there?

Law / What will happen to PLN Zloty when the Euro is adopted? [10]

I realize it will no longer be in circulation, but will everyone's zloty magically change to EUR in their bank accounts one night? Will it be at the market rate or some other fixed rate that is known ahead of time?

Law / Financing in Poland [12]

Do banks operate the same way as here in North America where you come up with a proposal, request an amount, prove a downpayment and off you go?

Speak for the US, there's no problems here in Canada ;)

Law / Financing in Poland [12]

I'm glad I could be of some amusement nierozumiem :) I should have been more specific that any of my proposals would involve property in one way or another, would the property being the collateral make it more feasible?

I don't believe that applies to the extent it used to Shawn_H, a little bit but definitely not as bad as it used to be.

Law / Financing in Poland [12]

For example, here's something I would be interested in taking on:

gratka.pl/dom/tresc/7-945114-lubuskie-zagan-tomaszowo-lesna.html?w=69b 573eeb3bb386f&s=1

Buying this and turning it into apartments.

Law / Financing in Poland [12]

I greatly appreciate your insight nierozumiem. Right now I'm just speculating and crunching numbers from my comfy chair on the other side of the world. Won't know what local markets are until I get there. My specialty is planning and managing construction projects so i can minimize costs in that category. What do you see as a hot up and coming market right now?

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

8.Every condition, ailment, misfortune, memory loss and accident was attributed to the fact that you didn't eat something.

I laughed so hard I almost cried when I read this, my mum did this to no end. (Zjedz wiecej warzyw, brokula pomoze ci z oczami, itd.)

Thanks brookbabe, I contacted that company and they told me that since I have a canadian ownership for the vehicle they can't (seemed more like don't want) do it. I have found a helpful company out of toronto that will ship it to Rotterdam for a reasonable price.

Just remember when importing a car to Poland make sure you have had it in your possession for over 6 months or you will pay 42% duty based on the car purchase price.

Thanks Kuba, I plan on driving on my canadian plates as long as possible. I've got a "Zaswiadczenie pobytu w Kanadzie" and vehicle ownership history, is that going to be enough when the time comes to register it in Poland?

Life / Moving to Poland next year, want to bring my Nissan Skyline [46]

I've been told that if it's the car I'm bringing with me that I will be allowed to register it but no one else will be able to register it making it unsellable. This car is an absolute blast to drive (350HP, AWD) and if it means driving to France once a year to keep it I'm willing to do that.

Life / To all of you who are Polish - where did you learn English? [64]

Do you speak Polish with an accent though? I know many people who stopped speaking Polish at a young age - even at home - and now they either cannot speak Polish any more or they speak it with a terrible accent. I'm not suggesting you have an accent, just wondering.

I stopped speaking polish regularly as a child also and do not have an accent. I do however structure my sentences backwards as I think in english.

Food / Maple syrup [14]

Is maple syrup readily available in grocery stores? I think that's the only staple of Canadian food I'd miss when I move.

Food / Maple syrup [14]

Is VT just a brand of maple syrup, is it available in local grocery stores or is it a special order item?

Work / How do foreigners working in Poland send money home? [5]

Sign up for XE Trade: xe.com/fx/login

You can transfer from one bank account to another. They don't support zloty over their web platform but they can do it over the phone for 1%, banks are 5-7. There are wire transfer fees ($20) though from/to European banks so it doesn't really pay off for small pidly amounts.

USA, Canada / advice on where to live in Canada [64]

If all he can do is wire houses he will make low 20's forever. Industry is where it's at, $40+/hr, overtime galore. Gotta know what you're doing at that stage though.

USA, Canada / advice on where to live in Canada [64]

You seem to have the mindset that to make good money you have to work for someone RockyMason. It's all about having your own business either full time or on the side after hours. That's how we make 50, 60 sometimes even 70 an hour with a minimal tax hit.

USA, Canada / advice on where to live in Canada [64]

Minimal tax hit? Are u high? It doesn't matter who u work for u pay the same taxes on the same salaries in the US. If u misreport your earnings that is called fraud. U can get put in prison for decades by the IRS.

Ahh yes, "Wszystkie rozumy pozjadal". Good luck in life with that close minded can't do anything attitude.

Let me break it down for you then:

Work regular job 7-3 four, sometimes five days a week for the measly $40/hr you frown upon so much. Get taxed through the nose for it.

Quote some projects on the side, invoice them legally. After marking up the materials you use which you get at a discount you can net 50-80/hr depending on how smooth the job was. Now you've made too much, taxman wants to gobble it all up, time to find some writeoffs:

- part of your house is used as an office: utils, taxes, mrtg interest are partially deducted
- need a vehicle to do this work (last year my vehicle writeoff was a Nissan Skyline ;) gas, insurance, maintenance
- tools which you would have to purchase for your dayjob anyway

There's more but I'm sure you get the idea. I'd really like to hear your ideas how you could export my job for $0.50 an hour too.
