News / WHY DOES POLAND, EU PERMIT FLOOD OF CHINA JUNK? [40]

A balanced economy needs to have a range of products, services, sectors etc. Relying on "one" major element is a risk to the overall well being of the society as a whole. We can't all be bankers, doctors and lawyers, as there are people who just don't have what it takes or the interest in those fields. There needs to be an option other than McDonalds, Wal-mart and the likes. Manufacturing provides well paying jobs for many people. Relying on China to provide manufactured goods takes those people from the domestic economy out of the picture in the sense that they cannot afford the products and services the Chinese offer. You end up creating unemployment, underemployment and a welfare state when you let your manufacturing sector fail. On the other hand, I don't think you can continue paying them what unions demand. There has to be balance in order to prevent the spread between rich and poor from growing.

Life / How often do you think Poles smile :) [58]

We are not talking about insincere American false/fake staff in customer service here. I'm talking about real people with real humanity.

Was that a shot against Americans? It is possible for Americans to be sincere, and to really enjoy working with people, you know....

Life / How often do you think Poles smile :) [58]

In Polish culture you usually don't smile at strangers.

it might get you into trouble

Was it always like that? If not, what changed?

i wouldn't trust a person who never smiles!!

If you got to really know them, and they didn't smile, I would not trust them either. But some people really need to get to know you before they feel comfortable around them.

Maybe some people don't smile because they need some dental work.

Life / How often do you think Poles smile :) [58]

when the weather is hot and sunny people tend to smile more ?

Don't confuse smiling with squinting. :-)

Maybe some people don't feel good because they might have sinus or allergies problems

My wife is suffering from Ragweed allergies, and she hasn't been smiling too much lately.

Not smiling to everybody?

Come to think of it, I don't think I would trust somebody who smiles all the time. It is not natural.

But until you know them they are usually rather "closed". Then they open up completely. :)

You know, I was just thinking that.

I think that if you know them, they really open up, and can laugh and smile like everybody else. If you don't know them, they come off as kind of serious. They just need to get to know you to open up.

News / The most spectacular errors in Polish politics. [264]

I described it as "official", as in 'recognised by the world as the government of Poland'.

Shouldn't that be "official", as in 'a puppet state of the Soviet Union'? Puppet State

Puppet states of the Soviet Union after 1939
Finnish Democratic Republic.....

As Soviet forces prevailed over the German Army on the Eastern Front during the Second World War, the Soviet Union supported the creation of communist governments in Eastern Europe. Specifically, the People's Republics in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Poland were dominated by the Soviet Union........

Life / Need to change up quite a lot of Polish coins- where's the best place to go? [4]

The girlfriend and I have been saving all of our loose change for a few months now

And irritating every check out girl you have come across in the process.

I would suggest making amends for your devious ways, and pay for everything under 10zloty in coins - in 5 or 10 groszy increments if at all possible. I am sure you would delight every check out girl in your travels.
