Law / Dual citizen non-Polish resident studying in Poland [14]

>>>Get an official odpis of your Polish birth certificate and you've eliminated a whole bunch of headaches. ...I already have my Polish birth certificate, written in Polish.

>>>Not recognising dual citizenship means that a dual-national can't claim to be (e.g. British) when he/she gets in trouble (e.g. with the police) or has to deal with some form of official bureaucracy - the Poles consider you as Polish only and treat you as they would any other Pole.

...I'm sorry, they just CANNOT pull that one, you cannot treat me as Polish (when I get into trouble), but not Polish when it comes to recognizing the entitlement to my citizenship. I'm either Polish or I'm not, if I am I have the right to a dowod/passport, if I'm not then I'm British and if I get into trouble I'm British.

Just out of interest I will get round to solving this - I have tried before, (in 2002/3 at a cost over 6,000 PLN and still got nowhere)

Thank you for the response:

>>>>As far as I understand it, the general regulations insist that when in Poland, you are solely Polish and other citizenship isn't recognised...

...if that is the case, then I (stupidly, I know) think that I am entitled to a dowod and a Polish passport. Problem is they don't seem to get that. When I went to St. Sebastian St someone told me...that 'perhaps' the fact that I was born in Krakow 'may entitle me' to Polish citizenship, but she wasn't sure.

I will take the case up when I'm in Poland next time and after that I'm going to the papers-I'll get one of the better journalists to investigate my case.

>>>you are solely Polish...
...I simply cannot be, as I do not have any documents to prove the fact. How can someone call me Polish and then refuse to give me a Polish dowod or a Polish passport?

>>>Legally every citizen is required to have a dowód.
...Do you mean a Polish citizen or a dual-nationality citizen? I am still not clear when one is a Polish citizen and when a dual-nationality one.

I am still arguing with 'them' (the powers that be, that know sweet nothing), as miraculously they say I have dual nationality, but will not issue me with a dowod.

Where do I go from there?

>>>Also, will I need to get a dowód osobisty? ...I don't understand why you think you should even be considering this?

>>>I know that I can open a bank account there using only my Polish passport...Believe me, I opened my bank account (and not one) using only my British passport with no trouble at all.

Work / Canadian Woman Moving To Warsaw [29]

A little bit of an aside, (sorry for intejecting on your thread) but...

>>A Trinity College Cert TESOL will do. In Poland you can do the CELTA in Warsaw (at ELS Bell), in Krakow (at International House).

...I know CELTA is more valued but do you need to have any certs (such as Trinity Tesol) before they accept you on a course? Also is the course 'doable' for someone with little teaching experience (except that necessary for Trin. Tesol)?

Life / Weekly Food costs - Krakow [16]

If families i.e husband, wife and child spent 100 each every week on food, what would they live on? That woudl woprk out approx 1000-1200 just on food. To some people that is take-home pay for the month.

I've lived on 50 pln z week, bought own food from the market, cooked, did not go out to McDo (for their restaurant-type food), did not buy Coca Cola or other such rubbish, drank flavoured tea and not coffee.

...Very wise advice. Always remember that he will be on HIS territory and you will be only a guest in his country, even though you may be living together.

Let us know how you get on in 6 months time.

Travel / One thing i Really hate about most Restaurants in Poland! [14]

>>>>with those pathetic things they call paper napkins / serviettes. :-)
...to me they are neither use nor ornament. I just cannot image poutting that near to my mouth to maybe wipe off any remaining food. I certasinly wouldn't even wipe my bu. with them - I always carry my own. Whenever I see them on the table, I always ask the waiter/waitress to move them to another table as they annoy me so much.

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

>>>both of these courses prefer graduates - from a University. You need to have a Batchelor's degree and CELTA qualification.

Look on websites which advertise jobs in Poland and see what the schools require. The other thing is you need to be able to 'sell yourself' and impress the DOS with your enthusiasm, knowledge and experience as a teacher.

...students - I hope that you don't mean students at a Uni but students in a language school.
It would be difficult at the age of 18/19 to convince someone that you have the necessary qualifications/experience.

Real Estate / Flexible payment arrangement for land purchase in Poland [30]

What is the downturn except paying more in Capital Gain (UK) if I decide to sell.

Two things: under Polish law, if you sell a property within a specified time (think it's 5 years) you will pay tax on the profits, unless you use the proceeds to buy another property.

second: how will the UK government (taxman) know that you bought and sold a property in Poland?

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

>>>> He goes as far as saying it should be "saucy, surprising and fantasy packed?")... Backed by Catholic Church...

....could someone explain exactly what 'saucy, surprising and fantasy packed' means...maybe what I'm doing falls into this category, but knowing me (ha ha) I bet not.

Still I'd like to see a clear definition of this.

Work / Move to Warsaw and will teach English (advice needed) [23]

One other question, we would like to live in Kabaty how much would the monthly rent be on average

go to warszawa.gumtree.pl - there may be some house renting/flat renting ads there. It is no longer cheap to rent somewhere.

Work / Move to Warsaw and will teach English (advice needed) [23]

Explain what you mean by 'decent standard of living' - you will not have what I can decent, if you are just teaching at a school.

I take you have a degree as well? If so, it will be easy for you to find work, but nobody can tell you which schools will be hiring, and how much they will pay. You have to go knocking on doors and find out. Have a look at all the posts where salaries are mentioned, so that you get a good starting salary. You do not need to know any Polish in order to teach in a language school - you are teaching English after all. Make sure, you brush up on your grammar ...to the 'nth degree.

If your wife also find a good job, then you can live comfortably.

...No, most of them DO NOT spend their time in prayer. Many village priests find other forms of amusement - and generally any alimony paid to mothers of the children born to these priests comes out of the collection box.....

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

Those who never get it think and write about it all the time. That's how you know they are hard up!

I think you might have something here - those who get it haven't got time to put pen to paper...others have all the time in the world.

...As for trying something new - and now only for those over 18- recently my young, virile, exciting, muscular Adonis suggested doing something I had never done before. While being 'cautious' to say the least, we did it - and you know what, it was 'someting else'. As long as it gives him pleasure, I'm all for it.

However, I am just wondering where he gets his ideas from.....

I need to get to Poland quickly, before it gets sold out.
I can't wait to read what a Catholic father can tell me about sex. But let's not be too hasty before I read the damn stuff. Maybe, just maybe, I could learn something.

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

It's so strange imagining I'm a married woman. Maybe I should stop doing it.

It's pretty obvious, you are not married, and it is the greatest PITY that married women do not think like this. There are very few who are even interested in what their husband likes in bed. (and don't ask me how I know).

>>>>And then, I perform the thing on my husband and he really enjoys it. Does it make me a prostitute or a good wife?

...It makes you a good wife. But rather than reading books, why not sit down and ASK your husband what he likes and dislikes and tell him what you like and dislike.

I truly believe that if a man is 'satisfied in bed' (and this means acting out his hitherto hidden fantasies as well as acting out yours) it is unlikely he will go and search for someone else. ALL marriages fail because of sexual misalignment. I have always found that if you have long and meaningful discussions about sex before you become 'intimate' then you can't go far wrong. Anyone who is too afraid or embarrassed to talk about sex, will never understand how good sex keeps you coming back for more. It is considerably worse than any drugs - at least with drugs, you can take them or leave them - you can't leave 'good sex' alone. Ever.

Travel / Wizzair cancelling flights [23]

A lot of Polish people live in and around the Manchester area (at least 500,000) land there is no direct flight to Krakow. They all have to go through Liverpool or Leeds. SkyEurope used to do it, but Krakow's landing fees were too expensive, so now everyone suffers. Do not even ask what I call the wonderful Management Team at Krakow airport.

UK, Ireland / Driving a Polish car in the UK [3]

>>>>Has anyone here any experience of driving a Polish registered car in the UK?
...Plenty of Polish people seem to do it in the UK without any problems.
>>>I'm actually a Brit, but buying a car in Poland this weekend to take back to the UK.
...First, make sure that the car is insured for the journey. If an accident happens you will be stuck and driving without insurance is a crime.

...Also remember that within 6 months of the car crossing the border at Dover, you must have the car registered in England. This is, unfortunately, a ball.....

>>Is it straight forward? How about going through customs at Dover? What are they like?
You should have NO trouble at all going through customs as long as the car is insured and licenced (and has passed any technical examinations etc) and with a registration document (that the car is yours).

..Make sure that the Insurance you have covers you for driving the car. Seek guidance from your English insurance company about this. This can also be a ball....

EVERY act - a type of caress, a sexual position - with the goal of arousal is permitted and pleases God."

I take it that this also applies to homosexual relationships.
