polsky 2 | 84 9 Jun 2009 / #1I had my share of experiences with the dentists, because I care a lot for my teeth, and unfortunately I have about 5 small cavities. I am 22 years old swiss woman, and I have very healthy teeth in almost all aspects. However you can see a pattern emerging when everytime I go to see a new dentist. The polish dentists will usually:1.Suggest that ALL your previous fixes (fillings of cavities with composit) needto be replaced, because there are secondary cavities around or behind them(even when you can see NOTHING on radiography), even if the fillings were madejust few months ago, by other POLISH dentists ;)2.Test your teeth in such ways (very cold substance)so they make sure that you get a root infectionso they will need you to take out the root and have a canal treatment afterwards.Your healthy tooth dies, but the good fact for them is that you pay for the wholeprocess about 3000 zl (extracting the once very healthy root, closing the channel,canal/channel treatment every week, etc)Canal(channel) treatments are the new way in which dentists are making fortunesevery week.3.You should write down on paper what they say and Compare!I didn't find YET two dentists to say the same things. They all propose cavity feelings with composit on DIFFERENT TEETH,they can't agree for the same teeth where I would need the fillings...It's all about them killing or infecting more of my healthy teeth, andmaking a lot of money from me in the process, lying to me about howfantastic everything will be once I take out that "infected" root. However the root is fine, but at any small discomfort that I feel, they say "oh you may have a root infection, we need to take out the root"(which means KILLING the healthy tooth!)You may have not been aware of what wonderful lies the dentists hereare feeding you, but for your own good, let's all wake up to realityand make a plan of how we can fix these.
Magdalena 3 | 1,837 9 Jun 2009 / #4...have never had that experience. On the other hand, when I show up with a very bad tooth and beg for it to be saved (treated, not extracted) the dentist bends over backwards to save it. I am a lousy patient and my teeth are forever acting up, but the only root canals I have had were fully justified and I still have those teeth, actually no extractions yet :-)If your teeth are so wonderfully healthy, why do you spend so much time visiting dentists, BTW? The five small cavities could all be filled in one go, that's what I usually have done if there are only minor problems.
shark8 - | 10 9 Jun 2009 / #5I had a similar experience; I went to a dentist just to do a regular checkup and that %#@%#@% scratched a part of the filling in my tooth!!! Due to the broken filling my root became infected (I didnt notice the small scratch).. so I had to come back (in fact I went to another dentist).Currently there is a small spot that hasnt been filled properly I think.. and I will have to go to the dentist again, so he will fill the tooth properly asdf
Guest 9 Jun 2009 / #6I've never had any problems with Polish dentists in Poland, although I did see one in England who drilled a bloody great big hole in my tooth, peered over and said "Ooo, looks like you need a filling". I DO NOW YOU FOOL!
Harry 9 Jun 2009 / #7I've never had any problems with Polish dentists in PolandSame for me. I find Polish dentists to be excellent. I've never seen a bad one in my 15 years here, which is not something I can say for the 16 years I lived in England or the two years I lived in Switzerland.
new-expat 9 Jun 2009 / #8I think all the dentits are the same all around the world.(yes, thieves.)Only the price varies from a country to another one.

sledz 23 | 2,250 9 Jun 2009 / #11lol...we dont all have bad teeth sweetyI know, there are some quite lovely British ladies:)You should know me by now, If I see a chance to get a poke at the Limeys..heheIt cost her £2,000 (including flights and hotels) for work it would have cost her about £18,000 in the UK!Wow thats outrageous, thats almost $30,000 over here you can by a new car for that much.Last time I went to the Dentist, I had a cavity filled, x-rays and a cleaning for around $300.00
OP polsky 2 | 84 9 Jun 2009 / #12Dentists are the only ones who are paid to do a BAD job.Let me detail from my large experience:1.GOOD dentist: he sees the cavity, takes very little from the tooth andputs a good quality filling, total price he gets: $50-$100.2.BAD dentist 1: he sees a cavity, drills a lot, puts a bad filling that will either fallor will make seconday caries behind it, so you will lose your tooth orneed another fillings: total price that the BAD dentist1 gets: $200-$400.3.CRIMINAL dentist 2: he sees a cavity, tells you that he will do his best,he breaks in the channel root room, kills your nerve ("oh it was impossible to save it")then it needs the nerve to be extracted, to make sterile mediumand clean the channel, then you need a root channel treatment, that is $200 every week,CRIMINAL dentist 2 gets total: $2 000 - $3 000just for destroying your teeth and blatantly lying to you, with a smile on his face...
Harry 9 Jun 2009 / #13then you need a root channel treatment, that is $200 every week,If you're stupid enough to pay 700zl for 50zl worth of work, you deserve what you get!
ZIMMY 6 | 1,601 9 Jun 2009 / #14Finally, a topic I can sink my teeth into. People are people and crooks are crooks.I use a Polish dentist (from Poland) who has his practice in a Chicago suburb. He has saved me thousands of dollars. I went to him for a second opinion and found him trustworthy.
frd 7 | 1,399 9 Jun 2009 / #15My mums a dentist, and she's brilliant person, I know plenty of her dentist friends - so I get the information from behind the curtains, and I haven't heard about this debauchery you are talking about. For a filling in emergancy situations you pay around 13,3$ ( national healthcare fund refunds those) in planned cases one filling costs around 38$ ( private visit ), your standpoint is biased because of those dentists you just randomly stumbled upon.
krysia 23 | 3,058 9 Jun 2009 / #16I went to him for a second opinion and found him trustworthy.must be your lucky day....

sadieann 2 | 205 9 Jun 2009 / #18Curious: Polish Dentists..? Mixed reviews here @PF. Personal experience: My husband has straight nice teeth, but since coming to US he needs extensive repair to teeth. I don't know what happened in Poland, but after an unfinished root canal (tooth fell out) TG it was in back where you can't see. We have excellent dental insurance and basically, they have to do an implant $4,000.00 (W/insurance out of pocket). He has described dentistry as not the best? I've heard of others going there just because it is inexpensive? He's looking forward to US dentistry. I joke that he will look more American..Why is that? When in Europe, people new I was American by my teeth?
slwebtek 9 Jun 2009 / #20Im polish living in china and one of my buddy come here to make all his dental worksit cost fraction what he will pay in Poland, included air traffic, quality possible even better than in poland or US
Harry 9 Jun 2009 / #21We have excellent dental insurance and basically, they have to do an implant $4,000.00They do not have to do an implant for one tooth at the back!
sadieann 2 | 205 9 Jun 2009 / #22Harry: The tooth is gone..He literally has a surgeon handling it? The process will even take several months. My husband thinks this is reasonable, considering the lack of care a in Poland. He equates time=$. I did look into private insurance extensively.. The US is in dire peril over our Health System. Our Private Insurance: A few #"s $18,000., base $10,000 deductible, co-pays per visit/RX....Potentially, yearly, minimum of $20-$30K. No joking! Perhaps, Poland is an option. Sixty million don't have health insurance. That's a crisis. I believe in Socialized medicine if you factor the costs and pitfalls in US. Dental alone, is $90 a month, but doesn't include copays and the services not covered by plan..
PlasticPole 7 | 2,648 9 Jun 2009 / #23Dentists are the only ones who are paid to do a BAD job.Polsky, sounds like you might be finding the wrong dentists. I found a pretty good one by looking in the phone book but the hygienist is so-so. The office I go to hired a new one and she did a great job scraping around the gums. The hygienists are the ones I wonder about. Some are much better than others. I often wonder if they all have training as hygienists because some of them do hardly anything while others scrape the teeth really well and you can feel the difference a day later.Maybe you should get referals? If you can find good referals, chances are you can trust the dentist.

Wyspianska 9 Jun 2009 / #25You may complain but everyone knows we have amazing teeth and I'm willing to pay to keep my perfect crystal white smile. That's what my search engine found after I typed English teeth:blogpig.co.uk/pics/2009/05/maggots.JPGedit: ha ha ha just look at this, now you are going to look after your teeth, aren't you? ;-)
Trevek 26 | 1,700 9 Jun 2009 / #26I always wondered why the Limeys had crooked, yellow, missing bad teeth? It's because our dentists weren't earning the same as US dentists for doing fancy cosmetic work.3000 zł for channel treatment?! You're kidding?I had some serious work done last year. Upside down in a chair for about 2 hours, twice in a week. Cost nigh on 2000.
scrappleton - | 829 10 Jun 2009 / #27Wow thats outrageous, thats almost $30,000 over here you can by a new car for that much.New car? With foreclosures that's a fairly nice house someplaces.
dnz 17 | 710 10 Jun 2009 / #28You got robbed, Can you post the name and address of the dentist so other poznan expats don't make the same mistake? I just had all my teeth sorted for less than 1000 pln, fillings, root canal, an implant. Going back next week to get them whitened :D (and contrary to popular belief, well my friends here i'm not gay even though i want nice white teeth)
OP polsky 2 | 84 10 Jun 2009 / #29Yes, it's the clinique called Dental Prestige. And the calculations were rough estimates, and not important. The important is what is happening, and how they make much more moneywhen they destroy your health and your teeth...All those telling that their dentists are to be trusted, seem thatthey were simply lucky, and for them a big smile from the dentistwas enough to hand them their money and the healthof their very own teeth.Where else can I get true and tested and REAL referrals aboutgood dentists? Because maybe they exist somewhere...Thank you
Magdalena 3 | 1,837 10 Jun 2009 / #30All those telling that their dentists are to be trusted, seem thatthey were simply lucky,OR maybe your were simply unlucky? I have not had a bad dentist related experience in Poland for the last 30 years or so... And believe you me, I am one of those unfortunates who simply must have work done all the time ;-(
