News / How Poles truly feel about their situation in Poland and being in EU? [76]

We are treated unfair.

Its a strange attitude to have. 'We are being exploited for our cheap labour by the EU', yet Poles come to the UK to work and earn far more then they would do working for a Polish employer in Poland. I've got a Polish girl staying with me who is earning TEN times her wages last summer in Poland.

'Money for the roads', who do you think is paying that? I'll tell you; UK, Germany, Holland and a few other countries who like the UK get ABSOLUTLY NOTHING from the EU except the bill. How do you think Germany feels, paying 15 billion Euro's per year to the EU? Raped, definitely. Poland gets billions of euro's from its membership, raid growth and rising wages - I'm not surprised Poles are positive towards the EU because they are not stupid.

UK, Ireland / London, not my cup of tea [30]

Using the worst summer in 60years as a definition of the UK climate isn't fair. There have been days in this century when temps hit 39C, most of the summers have have 30C+ summers and no rain for months. This year is an extreme exception, Scotland isn't a the best place for warm weather either.

UK, Ireland / Foreigners: Please don't buy the English Land! [83]

favourite saying of the poles at that time was 'are you stupid or just ignorant?'... not only did he hit the nail on the head, as many young germans do, but he also asks a question very relevent to you and your people ola...

Love / Mexican in love with Polish girl. Need advice on what to do. [49]

It is certainly not possible for a non UK resident to marry another non UK resident in the UK. In any event the question is academic as he would not be allowed in the UK. I would have thought his best bet is to go to Poland and marry her in Poland if that makes him a Polish resident/Polish passport holder and I do not know the answer to that. However that almost certainly means he cannot go back to the US.

This seems like the best advice. Coming to the UK is a problem if you want support from the state to live. If your wife can support you it would be much better

Life / I don't understand why my girlfriend wants to live in crime-prone Krakow [37]

t seems to me like your girlfriend does not want to try too hard to do anything. It is good to live close to mommy, walk to work, and if she gets bored with you she can dump you and still will have it good...Not too brave or adventourous. Apart from that it is much easier to learn English then Polish. I would think hard before marrying her.

I have to agree with this. I'm no fan of the US, but you are going to have a much poorer life in Kracow than Florida and the girls sounds like a liability.

And a bit earlier, Polish 14-year-old girl raped and murdered in Leeds.

It doesn't say she was raped,

It does here though. By her neighbour.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

One of the first things that the new immigrants noticed was just how insular and parochial the British appeared to be. Being 'an island race' had kept the British, by and large, from any meaningful contact with mainland Europeans and this was felt not just by Poles but by the masses of Europeans who now flooded to Britain to escape war-ravaged Europe.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

Bitter? Well the Poles were very depressed about being discarded and felt lost, helpless.

It directly lead to my father eventual suicide, before he killed himself he destroyed all his identity papers and photographs. It ensure that he didn't exist, vanished, I suspect.

It is interesting to see how Britain has changed, 50 years ago foreigners were stared at, life was dull and poverty was rife.

Now Poles come here and complain about the multiculturalism, excessive money and wild behaviour of the British.

Still find friends in the Irish, though.

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

what makes you think he is British? His English isn't perfect (unless he's faking the poor grammar and inconsistent spelling), one would think that he's Polish, just trying to stir things up a bit in order to find boredom.

He is definitely not English, his spelling is American English.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

British forbiden to take part in it for Poles to not disturb Russians ... we were awkward ally in this moment.

Lisen.

READ THE ARTICLE that this started the thread. The Poles were refused to to march so that it would not upset the POLISH GOVERNMENT, who Britain had recognised.

Here's the whole book.

angelfire.com/ok2/polisharmy

Its funny, you get Polish Poles complaining about this, yet the British Poles called those who went back home to Poland traitors.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

And we and the Czechs were awarded with the present of communism for our gallant efforts! Brits need to take responsibility for their actions and stop pretending history doesn't exists. For Poland WW2 finished in 1989! Communism wasn't invited by us it was imposed on us!

Something like 500K Poles were fighting in the Russian Army under Stalin, thats twice as many as fought for the West, so what were Britain to do? send the Western Poles to fight against the communist Poles? who installed communism in Poland?

It wasn't the British.

Roosevelt was worst, but it is another story

No it isn't, it all happened in the same meeting. My father read a book by Stalin's translator about the Yalta conference. They just laughed at Churchill, they thought it ridiculous that Britain could have any influence in the world. When Poland came up US and USSR ignored Churchill's complaints. The US didn't care, the USSR wanted Poland and they got it. Nothing Churchill said mattered.

UK, Ireland / UK Poles attack Daily Mail 'bias' [33]

* Colin Graham in Warsaw and Stephen Brook

The Federation of Poles in Great Britain has "reluctantly" filed a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission accusing the Daily Mail of defaming Polish residents in the UK.

In its letter of complaint to the PCC the federation accused the Daily Mail of printing articles that gave rise to "negative emotions and tensions between the new EU immigrants and local communities".

guardian.co.uk/media/2008/mar/14/dailymail.pressandpublishing

Note Daily Mail covers the Evening Standard and were strong supporters of Adolf Hitler and Oswald Moseley's fascist Blackshirts in the 1930's.

News / Should we change the rules to let Poles join the British Army? [119]

ut even from over here in the United States, I see little sense in the proposal. Poland and the United Kingdom are traditional allies, yes, but so are the U.S. and Canada, and I don't think such a plan should be applied there either. Every nation has their own army. These young men should be satisfied by serving in the Polish Army.

The US gives citizenship for foreigners willing to join the US army. That's not people living in the US, its anybody, worldwide can become a US mercenary just by applying.

Travel / Autokary from London (Heathrow) to Krakow or Rzeszow [12]

Most people use the coach to travel to Poland, Victoria coach station is packed with Poles and other Eastern Europeans. I don't think there were any English people when I went there.

The coach is often much cheaper than flying, take booze because its generally a drinking party. If you have additional luggage you pay more, that didn't stop my friend having to site on her bag because the luggage compartments were full - so arrive early. Coaches travel direct to

Victoria from the airports .

Life / Polish escort services - legal in Poland? [98]

In London there is an oversupply of prostitutes, a few months back a brothel shopped the owner to the police because they were so short of customers. They were making so little money they wanted to go home.

There is a certain amount of drugs>prostitution but the vast majority of prostitutes do it because they want to, for money and the sex. I friend of mine liked the idea of become a ***** because she though it was glamorous (english, qualified physiotherapist). I though that was pushing it and I told her so.

A survey awhile back, in Russia had 90% of teenage girls aspiring to be a prostitute.

I would like to see that survey. Can you provide a link in order to prove your claim?

Maybe the 90% figure is wrong :)

Its actually the "Third ranked professional choice"

News / US dollar still falling... Change in Poland? [37]

The Dollar is in for a long term fall, to what level its hard to say. It will never be as high as in the past, its a structural revaluation due to banks and investors switching from the US currency as a reserve. The US economy used to be over 50% of the worlds after ww2, now its below 25% and falling. There is nothing to support the Dollar, once confidence has gone it will be impossible to recover as there is the Euro which is far more stable and desirable - EU companies still manufacture and export goods for instance. The US economy is import and consume and its paid for by shipping paper that is devaluing.

The Zloty will not stay as high, in my opinion against most other currencies. Once the world recession hits I suspect the Polish economy will be hit very hard as its very dependant on overseas investors.

News / US dollar still falling... Change in Poland? [37]

The Zloty has appreciated because people have been buying it with Pounds, Euro and dollars. They have been buying property because it was cheap and re-repatriating overseas earnings. Property is no no longer so cheap and overseas investors will disappear with the world wide recession. Wages are increasing at home so workers will return and stop buying Zloty's with remittances. Employment opportunities overseas will also decrease and foreign tourist visitors will be down. Polish exports and attractiveness as a off shore location will decrease.

In a recession its the newer, smaller economies of countries that suffer more, because they depend on foreign investment.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

>What's strange is that in the UK...you can't get real bread anywhere

You could just make it yourself. I've got a Panasonic Breadmaker and it produces any sort of bread you want. However, you should try shopping elsewhere - I have no trouble find any sort of bread there is.

Yes, you jest.
