History / Russia: Poland responsible for WW II [300]

Solzenitzhyn's Gulag Archipelago

This is 'MUST READING' for anyone who wants to understand what happened in Russia, and how cruel the human mind can be.

Boring like hell but guess i can appreciate it.

Wrong! It is most interesting reading.

I would also recommend "The Captive Mind" by Czeslaw Milosz. I'm not sure if westerners can totally comprehend it though.

we get beautiful wheat harvest out of your cavalry with pigeon wings and artillerated asses.

Actually, Ukrainian soil is quite rich. Much of this is due to the enormous amount of super methane that is expelled by certain Ukies. This super manure settles and nourishes the soil.

How come people from Lithuania, United States, Britain, Ukraine, Germany, Canada are wrong when it comes to history and other members are right all the time?

Your premise is false. It assumes that the above countries are in sinc when it comes to (their) interpretations of history. You'll find incredible disagreements, for instance, between Britain and Germany or Lithuania and Ukraine, etc.

Many stereotypes are constantly disproven and uneducated asses should strive to be open and objective so that even they can comprehend the 'full truth'.

"....in a moment of honesty, confessed that he would have voted for
Hitler in 1933 :)"

What BB probably meant was this; Germans were caught up 'in-the-times' in the 30's and being 'obedient' to authority, it is not unlikely that even BB would have been swept up in the 'proudness'.

Life / Would I be accepted as a Pole (being half-Greek, half-Polish)? [16]

Speaking the language is (the) key.

That seems to be true in the states and I'm guessing that it's true in Poland. In my case, even though I'm an American of Polish descent, I am quickly accepted by foreign born Poles when I speak Polish.

So why do you bark about L'viv?

No barking, if you go thru my posts you will not find me mentioning L'viv, not even once.
I will not "remember [my] words" or "change them later" as I have not spoken that which you accuse me of.

Have a good day.

you better pack your bags and give Chicago and everything else back to the indians and move elsewhere.

Chicago's original settler was Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable, a man of Haitian and French ancestry.

Germans lived in Danzig far longer than Europeans in America!

Non-sequitur, but I'll comment anyway. Since a Pole founded Gdansk in 997 it stands to reason that Poles lived in Gdansk "far longer than" Germans who came to live there later.

As to German or Polish surnames, many Poles don't have Polish sounding names. Additionally, those with German last names were Polish on their mother's side. :)

Goths, one of the germanic tribes roaming what is now Poland

Interesting that some Goths spoke a language that had little to do with German. Interesting that they moved often enough to be considered nomads. Slavic tribes went further west than Gdansk but the point here is not who may have crossed an area but who founded it. The Polish port of Gdansk was founded in 997 by a non Goth named Mieszko.

That settles it for me. Of course if Germans want to consider themselves Goths than that's up to them.

Danzig became Polish by force

Who originally founded Gdansk?

Give the land and the towns back and we can talk about compensation

First you'll have to negotiate the eastern Polish areas swallowed by Russia. How easily we forget (conveniently?) that the big powers negotiated away the territories after the war and Poland had no say in the matter.

History / Russia: Poland responsible for WW II [300]

The time was right!
Without the softening of the soviet regime and it's dissolution there wouldn't had been revolutions...

I would only remind you that Solidarnosc began in mid 1980, about 7 years before perestroika. That was the first crack.

Oh, just goose-step over to a bookstore and order the book. After all, you are a 'man for all seasons' aren't you?

Since you were from East Germany you should be grateful to the Polish Solidarity movement which put the first cracks into the Soviet system. These cracks expanded like spider cracks and finally helped bring that wall down. Considering the times, it was an unbelievable feat.

Well, not for every wart. There are those pesky warts caused by Russia too.

Pick up the book by Michener. You will find it interesting and objective.

That is NOT witty!

...and here I thought you'd be proud to find out you had Polish blood.

James Michener was a popular writer with book sales of 75 million copies. Michener wrote that he did not know who his parents were or even when and where he was born. In 1983 he wrote "Poland" a novel well worth reading. One of the major themes of the book delves into the historical relationship between Poles and Germans. You might find it interesting.

he wouldn't had stopped at that and an invasion of Poland and later of Russia was already firmly fixed,

You are absolutely correct and that fact is not even debateable.

By the way, I left out one future headline in my series of titles. Here it is;

"Bratwurst Boy surprised to find out that both of his parents are 100% Polish"

Love / Polish guy broke this black womans heart, now he wants me back....what do I do?? [27]

Is this the typical behaivour of polish guys,

No, just lazy people. He sounds like a loser to me, that is, if everything you said is true.
Seems like you are itching to give it one more try. If you do, then you will be able to see if he is still lazy about things or not. If after one or two weeks his behavior is still the same then dump him.

Life / Polish man finds wife working at brothel [43]

but then going into a brothel to see that your wife is one of those who'd give you what your wife doesn't give you at home...

Women will do anything for money.

They were both wrong for not being open with each other BUT it is highly probable that this woman 'entertained' many more men than her husband had sex with women. Using the numerical count as a criteria she was more wrong than him.

News / Child with Polish ex, is 275 Euros a normal amount for child maintenance? [53]

As been suggested by another get a DNA test and make sure the child is yours. There have been a tremendous amount of cases in the U.S. where a woman gets pregnant and then picks the man who can best support her (whether he's the real father or not).

i forgot to mention that she wants me to have no input in the childs life -
to be honest I dont either

It's a bad sign when a woman wants money but otherwise wants to keep the 'father' out of the picture, a very bad sign. But then, that doesn't seem to bother you as you somehow have no 'feelings' toward your progeny.

Rest assured that this child will at some time in his/her life want to contact you.

History / Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved [494]

Of course, Zimmy knows best! Why don't you complain to the US census bureau?

I just called the bureau and some guy named Klaus Kadiddleschmidt answered and put me on hold. Then I was finally connected to a Mr. Hans Schultzbuerger who put me on hold.

Finally, a lady named Ulrika Rottenberg was able to tell me that there is no bias at the agency.

Gotta go, ............let's see, I'm on my way to Schaumburg, Illinois now...........

If you believe there are 50 million people of 100% German ancestry in the U.S. then send me some of the pixie dust you have so that I can hallucinate too.

The following is typical; my ex-wife was 1/2 German, 1/2 French but my (now grown) kids consider themselves Americans of Polish ancestry. Yet, I'm certain that they are counted as German by some bogus German-American census taker. :)

As to the map, I've never seen any as misrepresentative. (It's also noticed that Poles only live in a one county in Pennsyvania). I've traveled the mid-west extensively and indeed live in Chicago and little did I know that I was in some Germania.

Ah Germans, exaggerate everything by at least two.........

History / Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved [494]

Sasha:
Your attitude is interesting for me as well given that all American North is mainly ethnically German.
=============
.. and Italian, Irish, Polish and still a whole lot of British in the north. Germans only comprise about 15 - 20%

Mongrel America has relatively few 100% Americans of German ancestry. Many people may be part German but they are also part Polish, Irish, Italian, etc. This was less true 100 years ago and even 50 years ago.

I have found that most people of part German and Polish ancestry default to the Polish side. Somehow they feel more comfort there.
