Life / WHAT DO YOUNG POLES SEE IN RAP CRAP? [63]

rap and hip-hop not the same. Gangster rap is normally crude and not always intelligent. Hip-hop is!; often talking about politics, the state of a country, famine wars etc. Hip-hop was started by people who felt that they didn't have a voice in the society they lived in. It was like a social voice for the deprived and a lot of the early players actually had degrees in English, philosophy or other high brow subjects. Gangster rap is cheap and the fans are often fickle but groups like Jurassic 5 or The Roots have had a loyal fan base for years. Hip- hop battles were also used to settle arguements and old scores (whose the best dancer), rather than shooting or knifing someone; Gangster rap seems to encourage violence and glorify sex crimes. Hip hop for ever, rap is just for Xmas.

piece of peace Y'all!!

Life / YOUNG POLES PREFER CELEBS TO AUTHORITIES? [11]

In Britain it's much worse, programmes like "''I'm a celebrity" where they use girlfriends of premiership football players (not clebrities), or z list people from a TV soap, or who were once in a coffee advert in 1983. The problem is that every teenager in britain ( I know slightly over the top) thinks that the best way to make a living is to be a star on the front cover of OK MAGAZINE, or make column inches in HEAT MAGAZINE; rather than study hard, learn a skill and endure sleepless nights before the promised dream is realised!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK FELLOWS!!!!

Travel / What is the best way to get from Warsaw airport to Lublin? [13]

Ok, people seem to be having fun with this topic, so here goes

1st option Helicopter from the Airport to the roof of club 68,
2nd option Hitch hike or steal a police car
3rd option 175 bus - a quick bop from the central station to those nice little buses and bobs your sisters brother!
4th option let the train take the strain, yet again you need that cheeky 175 bus from the airport!
5th option taxi, my rents have booked one to collect them from the airport to leczna (both big fans, or kibica, of Gornik leczna. The cost is a monkey, or to those not from London, 500 zlotys.

6th option employ Robert kubica as a personal driver, very expensive and dangerous, but you might make Lublin in about 1 hour 15 mins
7th option go back in time 2 years to 2007 and you can find the Polski express!
8th option try options 3 or 4
9th option drink red bull it gives you wings!
10th option none of the above, but seriously 3 or 4 are the real McCoy, enjoy Lublin its great and right now about 100,000 students light, which makes local buses more pleasant.

UK, Ireland / England, Dirty, Expensive and a dangerous place to live? [205]

Yes its all my own work and just to prove it

The growing pains of a poetic superstar

Im a poet and i play with words
and whilst others learnt about the bees and the birds
I dream of rhymes and cheeky puns
of four play word play girls and guns
my mind is set just like no other
with dictionaries as my midnight lover
from dusk till dawn i have the horn
but if i can't rhyme my minds forlorn
with precise incision and rumbling lines
i make the decision following 6th sense signs
a topic or subject does appear
as if by magic, whilst I'm on my rear
often when I'm on the throne
sitting still and quite alone
a little thought pops into my head
a subject matter close to me
and yet i find it's so irrelevantly
frustrating rhyme yet keep the flow
like a one armed man who wants a go!
yet he can't turn the magazine page
and his 5 finger shuffle it takes an age
I feel like I'm trapped inside the sand
like a tone-deaf singer in a one man band
and when the anger does sub-side
and poetic license gives me pride
I can at last come back to Earth
and display the results of a new birth
so people on this cheeky forum
reading on with aplomb and decorum
give me reasons that I can breathe
give me carrots so I can tease
and soon my book of poems is done
and I can take the money and run

prosze bardzo

UK, Ireland / England, Dirty, Expensive and a dangerous place to live? [205]

London is the place to be
for the attraction of Her Majesty
sights and sounds like no other
full of life and death for every brother
from hackney wick to Harrow west
from a suited gent to tramp in vest
with the London eye and the bombay mile
and the shop keepers frown to the muggers smile
black, white, yellow, orange and brown
take the red bus to olde london town
with a swigger and swagger of your harrods bag
and the smell of a burger, a beer or a fag
the cabbies moonlight and don't speak the lingo
and the ministry of sound has just introduced naked bingo
the price of a pint is cheaper than tea
and every friggin corner has a swank place for coffee
the air is so clean with the stench of ****
and the people who abide are still "lovin it"
so a word to the wise an alarm bell warning
don't go to work, sleep in for the morning
get up late and go to bed early
this is the place where trannies are burly
and if after my post you still can't compete
with the abduls and marvins, not forgetting irish pete
then write out a letter to our friend boris
and go home to dover and listen to doris!
and with a flutter and a flicker i'm off to the pub
and drink myself silly on uncle jacks rub
czesc ludzie!

Work / Do you think I could manage on a salary of 1,500 zł - 2,000 zł a month? [14]

No flats have all mod cons, shower, toilet, kitchen bathroom etc, in separate rooms. A block is a group of flats like a sky scrapper, only with 6 or 7 levels instead of 200! A flat has a separate bedroom and shower, also the kitchen is divided, usually from the living room- if only by a curtain. You don't share anything with the other people in your block except the lift or stairs and the local drug dealers!!

Love / Need advice with Polish girl, I like her but she has a boyfriend. [114]

She may be telling porkies, with regards to the situation between her and the boyfriend. She could be having her cake and eating it, have you met him? have you seen how they are together? take a step back, or don't think too deep and enjoy the moment.

Life / Top 3 Most Important Things about which polish dentists will LIE to you bigtime [46]

My experience of dentists in both Poland and the UK have been good, although I would say that I went with a polish friend when I had a check up last time. I think if you go on your own and your polish is weak then you might get conned!

I find Americans have great teeth....and even greater bellies!!!

Love / If a guy was nice? [42]

Cheers mr wroclaw boy, it makes sense though, most people when they go to another country to live for a few years want to avoid fellow countrymen/women. Why go to brazil in search of essex girls? tu nie ma sensu!

Love / If a guy was nice? [42]

Tosh? is he from the bill?

Only spelling out my experiences and those that I have listened to. I worked with a lot of Polish people over a 4/5 year period in London, If it seems I have tarred every Polish guy then oops, but this was the general feeling from most of the polish girls That I met. Sure there are dick-heads every where and some Polish men are cool, But as I can't speak for every Polish woman in London then I only keep it real within my own experiences or those around me that have had the pleasure of my company. If any Polish person is offend then bardzo przepraszam,

Love / If a guy was nice? [42]

I used to live in West London, being white and English I was a minority! I also used to go to a university that was about 50% Asian. Most of the Indian guys wouldn't mix with anything other than Indian guys, same with the girls. I don't think it's anything specific, religion, racism or preference just the way it was. I know that some Asians are cool and others are idiots, as with polish women, living here in Poland, some women would love to experience an Afro-caribbean guy, others wouldn't let their daughters marry one or even into their house. When Polish women go to the UK, mainly to London, they end up in places which are full of ethnic minorities, as opposed to indigenous white English people, so, the chances of them going out with an Asian, Turkish, African guy is higher than an English, Irish guy. A lot of them don't like the polish men that go to work in the Uk because they often get hassled by these guys in bars, clubs and buses. My fiance and her friends experienced this and reckons it's due to a lot of polish men having a bad grasp of English, and so, having heard a female speak polish; they latch on to them and this could explain why some polish women, when living in England avoid Polish men. In my experience people go for people that they like, or have never experienced (due to fascination). This fascination often has a short shelf life, unless you're a great catch and treat the lady with respect! I'm not going to disclose my love life on an internet chat forum, but I have certainly tried more than one flavour of ice cream!..thats all it was, trying or a little window shopping. Just thought I would give a perspective from someone who has mixed with many people from all cultures and been privy to first hand natural reactions as opposed to ones done for the camera! czesc

Life / Questions about Lublin [39]

Hej czesc! hope the move works out for you! there are plenty of schools, just get your CV in order and prepare a ready made lesson plan (1 hour) and you should be fine, try and avoid profi-lingua (cowboys), other than that I have seen some Americans and Aussies but only 1 or 2 English. Night life is cool and there is a reasonable range of musical tastes, although sadly lacking in left-field funk/broken beats (but I live in hope!). Prices are cheaper than say Warsaw or Krakow, but they do seem to be rising!! ULWAG LAMAGA! If you want to learn polish try and avoid hanging out with natives all the time. Restaurants are reasonable for what you would earn as a native speaker, buses (I agree with carlb) do show up on time and night buses gather in the main centre and disperses to the burbs! Come with a smile and wszysko bendze dobze!

Work / Polish lessons, how much should I ask? [20]

People have mentioned different prices, £15, £20 and £25 so maybe go for a special offer 3 lessons for £50 and then £20 a lesson after that. Sometimes you have to dangle a carrot for the first clients to bite.
