Polonia / Polish Language School - Rome (Szkoła Polskiego - Rzym) [3]

Hi guys/gals,

Definitely been awhile - but life is that way. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a Polish Language School in Rome, Italy (Yes, I Googled - nic) or a particular website that a person could use to find tutors or someone just to speak with.

I keep myself busy with Rosetta Stone and a couple of instructional texts but dont really get the opportunity to speak or use the language.

News / Weak US dollar in Poland and other countries... [180]

Dollar is generally getting weaker..

The big problem in the future is OPEC and other oil producing countries are starting to express a desire to shift the price of fuel from dollars to euros now (oil until this point can only be purchased in dollars - an old agreement that secures the worth of the dollar since their is hardly enough gold to back it even partially now) Maybe the real reason to invade Iraq hmm... secure a government that will keep oil exports from Iraq in the dollar (Saddam was expressing a desire to shift the currency).

If the fuel was switched from the dollar to the euro then it is likely China will quit buying US bonds (where most of the US's debt funding come froms) and the US will face some difficult times. All this is could happen but there are too many stages and variables in between to know for sure... but for now the dollar continues to fall because of ill advised wars and political problems.

Love / How do I get my Polish girlfriend back?? [26]

While moving on might be the right thing to do - I have to say I believe somethings are worth fighting for and I believe if you were planning on asking this girl to be your wife, well this is one of those things.

You know your chances much better than I do, but if you think their is a chance and believe that you can get the girl back then go for it. After its all over youll either have your girlfriend (or fiance) or be out of money and time - but I know personally that I could move on a lot easier if I knew that I did everything rationally possible to make it work.

As for what to do - going back to Poland (like you say) is risky and expensive. So depending on your financial situation and how great you think your odds of success are would be what I would use to judge this. Also as you say polish girls are stubborn but I believe they also like their men to be a bit stubborn as well, and for them to stand up for them self and what they believe in.

Just my ,02

Love / Do mix culture marriages work in Poland? [68]

Some people look at it negatively, from what Ive noticed, because it ignores their nationality and in some peoples eyes it shows ignorance of this region of the world since their are large cultural differences between countries.

A lot of people from this region of Asia do not consider themselves Oriental - but Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc...

Love / Which is better? Being single or being in a relationship? [92]

How can I expect others to like me when I don't even like myself.

Exactly, in the words of Liam Gallagher "You got to love yourself mate, or no one else will love you."

The simplest way to do this is to find things you enjoy in life and enjoy them, go out weekends and have a pint or see a movie and dont think about what other people are doing or how it could be better, but enjoy doing these things for what they are. Its not so much as liking yourself as being comfortable with who you are (and at times seeing the parts you are not comfortable with or dislike and working to change them) and what you do. It seems to me you may spend too much time alone, and therefore contemplating things that do not need to be contemplated. Just go out and have fun and things will happen.

Love / Polish-American dating success stories [41]

Howards has a most fantastic beer selection. Loved it. Fresh fish and beer was top choice there.

Yeah, great place. They say oysters are an aphrodisiac but I think its BS, but they are damn good to eat thats certain.

jtm Wien,
Long story short...I'm 15 years yanger then he is. We dated once, and he decided not to carry this longer, because of the age difference (it was only few dates).

In my opinion its probably better that you just ask him. Say that you cant help but to care for him and tell him your circumstances and how you see things (like this distance) and ask him how he feels. Its better to set things straight now than to let them drag on with you wondering (even though its a lot easier to say this than to actually do it I know).

Ah, yeah Ive spent a lot of time to Ocracoke & used to do a lot of surfing there in the past. Its probably my favorite spot on the Outer Banks. Take her to Howards Pub by any chance? I have already warned my girlfriend that she has to take at least one oyster shot there whenever we get the time to visit my hometown.

Love / Foreigner's opinion about polish ladies [304]

veryday lazyness :) Don't worry they'll be in the UK one day too :) For your Poshy types :)

They have segway tours around Krakow and the market square now... saw it last weekend... stupid machines that make the people riding them look even stupider.

And what ever happened to riding a bike?

Thanks - belated, but the same back. How do you like Krakow?

Thanks. Krakows a great city, not too big (at least the parts that are nice to spend your time in), the people for the most part are friendly, and the foods good. Plus more than enough bars for the weekends. Having said all that I do miss the U-Bahn though because public transit here can be a pain in the ass at times...

Ditto. Just got back from OBX with my gf...

How did you like it? I do miss the atlantic ocean and being on the OBX every so often

The guy Im interested in (and vice versa) used to date some time ago for a brief period. But we still are into each other and spent time over different excuses: movie, dinner, celebration 1, celebration2...blah, blah, blah... I've noticed that each time we have a great weekend together, and feel really close, he seems distance for the next few days and somehow less interested in until the next great time together. What's up with that? It really confuses me. Any ideas?

Hmm, used to date.. what happened, how well do you know him now and how long has it been since youve been apart?

Love / Which is better? Being single or being in a relationship? [92]

Being single is kind of like the safe bet, you can usually have a good time & do as ya please.

Being in a relationship is kind of like taking a chance. You can be in a bad relationship and it will be much worse than being single can ever be or you can be in a good relationship and it can be much better than being single can be (and its guaranteed sex -- but then you have that once a month thing as well so... )

All that said, I never liked Rotterdam...too jarringly modern, it doesn't reflect the rest of the country. Amsterdam is a mess - great old architecture but too touristy and snobby, and it sprawls.

Ive heard a lot of the same about Rotterdam.. but the pay is good and there are a good deal of jobs for English speakers. As for Amsterdam, Ive been there and enjoyed it but do not believe I could ever actually live in the place

Happy 4th (all two minutes that are left here in Krakow).

Nope - not a lick of dutch in me, It's always been a place I wanted to live, so I moved here nearly 10 years ago. I'm not sure where I'll go next - might depend on who I meet, I suppose - but I'm here now. Have a nice apartment, new, paid-off car, all my appliances are 220v...I think I'm stuck here. ;)

Not to change the subject, but I just thought it was interesting since I will be looking for a job in Rotterdam (if I cannot get one in Vienna). Seems like you enjoy it there.

Absolutely - the same goes for women. I can also suggest not dating smokers, as they seem to have a selfish streak -- but that's perhaps my prejudice.

Ive noticed this. Im not sure about all being selfish, but they definitely have a stubborn streak.

Not to be mean, but from my experience of being in Baltimore a few times, I think your better off not dating anyone from there.

Love / Sad :( I feel i have lost something very special [32]

Did I see the word beer? Who wants to go drink... wait what is this thread about...

Nah seriously man, dont lose your head over it. From what I can tell you all seem to be apart, my advice is let up on her a bit and keep her interested by not telling her all the time how much you love her. ****, make fun of her and stand up for yourself in a "mean" (cant find a better word in my head right now) way so that she feels she has something to work for and that youre not giving her everything (aka working your ass off for the relationship) so that she doesnt have to do anything.

Maybe itll help, if not... Beer does.

Love / Do Polish Women Date American Men? [46]

Well, I can say one does.

The question could easily be reworded to "Do American Men Date Polish Women?" The only actual barriers is finding someone who you actually click with, the minor cultural and language differences (most younger polish women I have had contact with - and I currently live in Krakow - speak almost fluent english) shouldnt be a problem as personalities and personal goals and tastes are much more important in any form of a relationship.

The reason perhaps is that its not so prevalent is history, customs and fear can keep both sides (Polish and American) from opening up to and attempting a relationship with the other. Also as Witek mentioned, many polish girls in America immigrate not looking for something new but looking for better financial circumstances, but this doesnt mean that love or a relationship isnt possible. It can get anyone in the strangest of places and circumstances if they are willing to give it a chance.

Work / Internship in Krakow. Visa/Work Permit Question [5]

Hey, thanks in advance if anyone knows the answer this question, and thanks anyways even if you dont.

Ive recently gotten an internship in Krakow, but I have already bought my ticket to Poland (to spend a month there for the summer) so Im scheduled to leave in a few weeks. Now for the question, is a visa necessary to work at all in Poland for an American citizen if Im there working less than 90 days? If it is, can I apply for my visa once I am in Poland or must it be done before I depart?

Ive contacted the embassy but they have only gave me limited information and spoke of my company acquiring a work permit for me, so I have emailed this company.

Thanks again, and take care you all!

Love / she is so beautiful......polish girl [52]

Ah, Ive met a few and a majority of them seem to be "hard-headed" and temperamental. My girlfriend god bless her but some days she just warns me to watch out, and heaven forbid she ever get a bit hungry or someone will pay. All in all, shes definitely worth it, and it makes her interesting but at times I wonder if she will calm or if ill end up a blood stain on the carpet.

Love / Gift for Polish girls - question [56]

Hahaha, funny you mention that. Because I already have them for her, its more of a joke to go inside of the box with the teddy bear (so if Im wrong I can claim its a joke, if Im not I get to see her in them :P). I went small anyways, and can claim the sizes in America are different.

Chocolates for sure, she loves chocolate (who doesn't). Ive just got to find a way to get them over there without them melting too badly.

Love / Gift for Polish girls - question [56]

Thanks for the help. The spa sounds like a nice idea. Haha, Zubrowka thats one of the few gifts she might actually expect from me. Hmm.. I have a "miś" that matches her eyes to give her already.

Well thanks again, any more ideas are welcome!

Love / Gift for Polish girls - question [56]

Merged: Gift/Activity Idea for My Polish Girlfriend

Im flying in to visit my girlfriend(who is Polish) in a few weeks and Im looking for some gift ideas or something I can her out and do (in or near Krakow). Or, even perhaps say to her that would be considered something traditionally polish or associated with young couples in Poland.

I know all girls are different, and even then many of them like the same things no matter their nationality, but I was just curious as to if there was anything like this that I could surprise her with since Im sure she doesn't expect me to know any of them (Im not Polish, in case you didnt guess).

Anyways, thanks for your help. Take care.
