Love / Are Polish men generally possessive? [51]

I would agree that polish men are definately more possesive and often bossy. However, they are so romantic, the flowers... the poetic sweet words...Also, they are so handy around the house. Most can fix anything.

I think, they are just still the REAL men left, but times had changed. Women are very independent. They need to loosen up a little bit. Especially here in the US.

I will go out with my girlfriends for our woman to woman talks no matter what. There is not a husband or a boyfriend I can have a chat with like we have on "girls night out".

And, no we're not going out to look for other men.

Life / Stereotyping in the Polish culture: Are Polish blondes really dumb? [130]

Hollywood is full of dumb blonds who make A LOT OF MONEY, HEADLINES and FAME for themselves promoting stupidity.
Especially, the blond white trash of Paris, Britney, Nicole...just to name a few.

It is always the uneducated, ignorant moron who trives on stereotypes, trying to feel better about himself. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. So there.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

Yes, it is a very unethical way to gain a citizenship in the US. However, I've seen adds in polish papers and on line about "business" marriages. It spoils the image and make INS more vigilant. You're right, one can get him/herself in a lot of trouble doing it, but it does happen.

I think, it's different, if it is a real marriage. You need to through all the personal questions anyway. My American friend married a man from South Africa. They went through a lot of hassle, but it's love...Oh.

I mention it too - this is fine. It's Love.

Love / Getting engaged! I'm 18, he's 28. WOW [72]

Sounds like a "puppy love". I would not get tied up at 18. He might be established 28 years old, but his world is different than yours. Reconsider. You've got a lot of time.

Food / Recipe for Polish potato noodle stew/soup/meatball [11]

??? The only potato noodles I know are "kopytka". It is made of mashed potatoes, flower and eggs. Rolled and cut into pieces that look like..well - little hoofs. Hence the name. I t maybe with bacon or onion, but not inside... well - maybe.

It can be with cheese inside, however.
Somewhat similar to Italian dish known as gnocci (I'm not sure of spelling), but most nice Italian Restaurants have it on the menu. Delicious!

Life / Poles' tolerance towards other Races [190]

I think we are too nice and too submissive. We never believe in ourselves enough and tend to be overrun by other nationalities. There are so many of us in the world - EVERYWHERE, but we don't even have a decent representation in county or state government. Never mind the federal.

K you know a lot about it. Good info for many.

I would not want to go through all of this. I was so lucky getting my papers thanks to President Regan. He will always be my favorite President.

They say The US has about 11 Mil undocumented immigrants. I wish the government came up with another Amnesty and then seal the borders to prevent all the crossings, if that's what they want to do.

No other country in the world has such leaky borders.

Life / Poles' tolerance towards other Races [190]

Hey, so why so many educated polish people grab a broom instead a pen and a paper?
That's the ones I had in mind. Not you and me. I can't stand it and I don't like it.
They write about us the way they SEE us. Unfortunately, that's the image.

Yet, at a polish party gathering everyone dwells about their wonderful life in Poland and what great jobs they had. Please, no need to chew my butt off. :) I don't mean EVERYBODY literally, but if you have a chance to associate a little bit with Polonia, you know what I mean.

I don't see anybody with low self esteem here and I wish it was the norm, not exception.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

Hmmm...

I'm a writer in my spare time and this sounds like it would make a very funny story.

Can the above information and human dramas be funny? I guess, they can... but are they?

Life / Poles' tolerance towards other Races [190]

bolo, I waited on tables when I was going to college. There's nothing wrong with doing a menial job and study at the same time to better yourself.

It is sad, when people get caught up in it and still do menial jobs a decade later...

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

Polish proverb says "jak cie widza tak cie pisza".
Loosely translates to "they write about you the way they see you".
Would it somewhat explain the trash in the papers?

Yes, we all need some kind of escape from reality and humor is good. Even the dark one.
I love when there is a good joke teller at a party. Some people can remember jokes and keep on rolling one after another. Any kind of humor: dumb, stupid, dark, dirty (those are good) :)

Holidays are coming, there will be some of that!

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Jeez, I'm glad this conversation was on line only. There would be noses bleeding, if the arguments were done face to face :) Ouch!

Oh, well. After all, this is the forum and people have the right to express their views. We're not here to agree on every subject. It would become very boring - quickly.

The name calling is not necessary, tough. Bi nice. It is a very sensitive subject.

Are polish people racist? Yes. Just like the French, British, American and others. No more, no less. I did not come across open racism in US, but there is plenty of it hidden behind nice smiles and politically correct behavior. It is not politically correct to admit that you are. Remember Mel Gibson drunken remarks?

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

It was strangely familiar to what some Poles feel.

My feeling, exactly. Especially, the Americans of polish heritage. I work with a couple of "samples".

Love / Krakow or nearby: LOST LOVE! [30]

What a story. It sounds fishy. I don't have any experience in asking for money or being asked over the INTERNET, but I heard some stories.

On the other hand, almost a year of romancing on the computer for a measly $500 or $1000? How much can the ticket cost? For a real scammer it would be a waste of time. Unless, she had a few chatters on line. That would add up...

Love / What is expected of a man who wishes to propose to a lady in Poland? [35]

How sweet. Ania and her family will really love it, especially that you will propose in polish. You are not breaking any rules.

In the old, old tradition you would actually ask her Father for his daughter's hand in marriage. Nowadays, it would be just cute but maybe awkward....Ania can speak for herself. :)

Good Luck!!!

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Great input K_B. There is a voice of reason for everybody. We are as racist as our experiences are. None of us was born with racial/ethnic attitudes.

Just the other day I overheard a coworker saying: "Topinka, Blagojevich...what kind oflast names are they? Why does Illinois has to come with this kind of names?!"

(for the ones who don't know Judy Barr Topinka a IL state Treasurer and Rod Blagojevich is the state's governor). Was it a racist statement or what?

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Yes, I agree...unfortunately :) ...just kidding. That's the reality. lol.
America is still prejudiced after all centuries of "integration". Often forced by taking kids from their neighborhoods and drive them to other schools 1-2 hrs away to meet "quota".

Mind you, our BIG boss has "szcz" in the middle of his last name! I can't even imagine what this guy thinks at times, when he gets his ash chewed up!

Food / Recipe for Polish potato noodle stew/soup/meatball [11]

The above mixture of grated potatoes, flour and eggs, can have onion and bacon added inside and baked in the oven. It's called "babka ziemniaczana" or potato babka (kind of cake).

Yes, you squeeze the excess water.

Yummy! with cold milk! Yum!

Life / How many people really know English in Poland? [53]

About people older than 25 years old... I think most of them don't know English at all, so better try to speak to young and beauty people, just like me.

OUCH!
OK, all of you archaic people of 25 and more. Don't even try to learn English. Just forget it. Call a lawyer and make a Will. :)

I think I'm dead already. :)

Life / Polish Girl Fashion - "less is more"? [108]

I wonder what rock this guy crawled from under. The last time I went to Poland I was actually inconspicuously pointing my camcorder at the beautiful women walking by. I wanted to show them off to my American friends...And, it was not even Warsaw or Krakow.

I'd have to go to the Magnificent mile in Chicago or Madison St in NY to see something similar!

Of course, there were some "ducklings" but they are everywhere. I would not judge all polish beauties based on that.

I could as well take a picture of some old, falling apart barn and show it to the world that that's how houses look in Poland...Didn't the "West" do it in the past?

Maybe still does...and this Danny still belong to that world.

Love / Why are polish girls more approachable than north american girls [158]

Cyprian, I can see that you feel hurt by some women (girls). You would love to see them just as pure angels and virgin Mary's. That's nice and romantic. But.

Well, we're not. Don't want to be.

Some are really "bad apples", but you don't need to throw out the whole bushel...
