News / Tornado hits Poland [39]

In your original post you never specify what you have in mind country region etc. You may have had it in mind but………… :-)

Not mine, dtaylor's. Besides he wrote about the UK, not e.g. Northern Yorkshire or Dumfries & Galloway.

News / Tornado hits Poland [39]

Eoearth says it's Oklahoma that has that honor.

Oklahoma is NOT a country.

Related: Are there ever Tornados in Poland?

I wondered,because I never heard 0f any hitting Poland

Rarely, however last year poland had 3 tornados en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornadoes_of_2007 (click edit > search > type in poland)
v. rare occurrence. I remember the one in Częstochowa, dated July 20

News / Tornado hits Poland [39]

Yeah, I just spoke to my parents on the phone, they told me it was thundering yesterday evening non stop for 2 hrs.
Btw, I saw a tornado in Scottish Highland two days ago (close to Inveraray). That's a quite unusual sight, innit ? (Scottish residents of PF should have something to say about it)

News / POLAND TO SIGN US MISSILE SHIELD DEAL TONIGHT [239]

I hope we'll see Americans delivering oil to Poland if Russians cut off their oil supply. Poles can also expect oil and gas prices' increases.

Travel / What are nightclubs like in Warsaw...? [33]

Del Boy - why the fuk anyone would want to go to Newcastle for any reason is beyond me ;)

For the same reasons why some people try 'survival', I suppose.

But, as in many other aspects in Polish life, the law is one thing and the reality quite other one.

UK, Ireland / I married a Pole, we live in the UK - eligibility for Polish citizenship? [15]

God bless the pope

But he's a German ! And the Only True Pope (C) (TM) can be only a Pole !

Btw, present this link to your wife/husband, it's a case when you want to move to Poland, though. From what I understood from this: a foreigner must be married for at least 3 years to a Polish citizen and acquire a permit for settlement in Poland.

News / America: Take your missile base and shove it! [116]

Shiled is good for Poland. Russia treats Poland as part of their zone. No body serious is thinking about real terrist assalut in Poland.

Have you checked out the news ? Russians are already turning down the oil tap for Czechs. As long as we're dependent on Russians when it goes for oil and gas supply, we must play safe - and this rocket shield is going to make them even more paranoid than they are now. Besides we should concentrate on strengthening European unity, and not allow ourselves to become American puppets. Poland has never been lucky with her alliances. The USA is no exception here. They don't give a f...k about us. We even still need visas to travel to their country. Polish PM announced withdrawal from Iraq for autumn this year and I hope it would commence as it was promised.

Life / Things to be afraid of in Poland? [109]

Gas mask, bullet proof vest, the usual arsnel of weapons, lock pick, grappling hook, camouflaged combat clothes, some anti-voodoo dolls and a rabbit's foot, actually if you can bring the whole rabbit that'd be great! but remember that is only if you are going to the north of Poland to the sea side, as you would at any seaside.

A siekiera* would be enuff.

*tool for removing limbs and heads, long time ago used for chopping firewood, nowadays used by kibole in their strange tribal rituals known as 'ustawka'.

Language / Talking about the weather [22]

Hmmm, perhaps Silesian way of speaking (further differing depending on the area) is similar in some extent to drawl. Got no idea what 'glide' is - Cambridge dictionary doesn't explain it in context of speaking.

Language / Talking about the weather [22]

It's not one of those really shouty sort of accents that I might be able to hear from down here if you raise your voice enough?

No, actually it's something you do with certain syllables in a specific manner that makes them last a bit longer (I don't know the English word naming it, neither does my dictionary).

Bartolome:
car

Tsar.

I told you it's car, didn't I ?

Language / Talking about the weather [22]

Bartolome:
Cara

?

Wasn't me ?

Piździ jak za chuja Cara - its similar to 'pizdzi jak w kieleckim' but stronger (a bit).

Cara - kogo ? czego ?
car - the big boss of Russia & Co. a long time ago.

As for the right accent question, it requires a verbal communication. I'm unable to demonstrate the pronunciation in writing.

"Pizdzi jak w kieleckim..."

If you happen to visit Silesia, don't forget to add '...na banhofie' (I'll omit the accent question).

UK, Ireland / Tell me about Glasgow [59]

where did you think to move?

Another country perhaps.

hey...how fast will i learn to drive o the opposite side of the road?? lol

I learned after I sat behind the wheel. It's a personal matter. Anyway, all-present traffic enforcement cameras will make you drive quite slow in built-up area.

If you want to buy yourself a nice standard flat, you'll need >£80 k, which would be connected with the area of its placement. Rent would be some £400 for a studio flat, £550 and up for 2 bed (+bills, council tax, which is about £120/month and depends on the area you live in).

UK, Ireland / Tell me about Glasgow [59]

Guys, i need your help...
I am considering to move to Glasgow

Honestly, if I were legally living in the US, I'd never move to Glasgow. I live here only because of my job. When I finish my professional courses, I'm going to look for a job somewhere else. The only attractions here are the clubs in the city centre - there's plenty of them to pick and choose. Besides it's an industrial, gray moloch.

Yeah. Town neighbouring my village. Been there thousands of times. Nice place to visit and hang out in bars, but not much perspectives to live and work. That's why I regretfully left it.

UK, Ireland / Sun hires Polish journalists to cover Euro 2008 [7]

There has already been some Polish lassie in a Scottish tabloid (don't remember the name of the paper, it's my co-workers who buy them). Of course there was some old, not-funny-at-all-already joke about pole dancing next to her photo.
