And who is to say that Americans do not use it properly? Or the British?

I say they don't use it properly. For example, [in most cases] Americans don't use Present Perfect, they use Past Simple.

Lee,

The American accent probably comes from the variety of cultures that settled America.

American English is much easier than British English !

How do you work that out ?

The grammar is the same, but Americans choose not to use it properly. That doesn't make it easier.

Law / SCAMMED BY Grubarek [8]

Did you write a letter [snail mail] and ask what is going on. If so, how long is it since you wrote. What advice did WU give you ?

There could be a simple solution to this, but by showing your hand the way you have is not going to help.

Life / The School Year in Polish Schools [21]

makie,

As a guide, I can only tell you that ordinary private school in Wroclaw costs around 550 / 650 Zł per month. Payment is also due during holidays.

You will find that most schools have web-sites, so you should be able to check.

I assume that you are looking in Warsaw. Yes/No ?

Genealogy / Croats (Serbians) are Polish origin? [53]

Yanta,

I have visited the 'Death Camps' and I have raised questions. Sensible questions get sensible answers. Not arrest.
The people who question such places, and I think you are refering to one person who was in the news a year or two ago, deny the figures or simply the reason for such places.

The present laws in Germany show an understanding of the past and are an effort to prevent such things happening in the future.
The Russians have chosen to remember or deal with their past in their own way as have all other countries.

Yanta,

I think this topic is at an end. And your post makes it pointless entering into a debate, which you have already lost by making your rediculas comments in post 37.

Genealogy / Croats (Serbians) are Polish origin? [53]

Bubbawoo,

With respect to your family during the war years. You are being very naive when it comes to Poland. Generations of families were wiped off the face of the Earth at the whim of Hitler. But here it might have happened in a single day.

The photo of Hitler accepting flowers adds insut to injury.

But also had a kind side.

Yeah ! Instead of death today, we'll put it off 'til tomorrow.

YANTA, you need to check the word 'Propaganda'

Language / kaboom, ruff ruff ruff, meow, or moo, or bang! - sound effects in Polish? [29]

It's interesting that some of these animals would have no problem communicating with their counterparts on foreign soil. Others it would seem would find it rather difficult.

The cow would be able to make himself understood quite well in England. However, if the frog chooses to travel, he should at least learn some local vocabulary and pronunciation.

If you have either four or six legs then this thread undoubtedly provides good tips.

Enjoy your travels.

Life / What Do the Poles Think about the Abolition of the Death Penalty? [48]

He was a normal guy,

Do murderers have a special look?

He love her girlfriend very much,

Obviously not.

until this accident

Murder is not an accident.

What you guys are saying is that this young man made a premeditated decision to kill the girl but not the baby. Do I understand correctly ?

If so, he should suffer the maximum sentence the courts can pass.

It is pointless to discuss the death penalty because that choice is not and will not be available. It is a condition of entry to the European Union.

Genealogy / Research in SE Poland [56]

Koach,

Problem number one. I'm English not Polish. You'll have to wait for someone with better knowledge than me.

Just Google the place names and see what comes up. You will find some info at Wikipedia.
I've already checked.

Koach,

Do you speak Polish ? If so, then write a letter.

If not, someone here will translate for you.

Don't rely on other people's experiences. I doubt that they contacted the same people that you hope to speak to.

You could also find a local web-site, which may be in English and might also provide more in depth information regarding Genealogy. Also, any local [town] website will have a message board.

Does this help ?

I doubt that you'll find a cricket team here. You might find a rugby team connected to the university, I'm not sure. We do have an American Football team, 'the Crew'

Jola,

All the places you are looking for are on most maps. I did find them for you, and statistics about size, population etc. But you were corresponding with someone else about the names in your family, which seemed more important to you at the time, so I didn't post.

I'll post the links later this evening.

Travel / pickpockets or gangsters in poland? [49]

Lee-UK,

English people always stand out. They look different !

Haircuts, fashion, the way they act, etc.

It's the little things: North of England = no sideburns

..............................London = sideburns
