Love / Polish-Islam Relationship Union [450]

I don't understand why some other religions (Islam in this case) want others to convert to their faith (or at least seek attention and try to announce everywhere someone convered to Islam)...

Love / Married a Polish guy. Now what? [40]

I can understand him when he says he has no friends/family here. If you add he don't speak English, his life may be quite depressing here. Maybe buy him TV set with Polish TV so he could enjoy Poland somehow.

Real Estate / Property insurance in Poland [9]

My guess is that still only a small percentage of Poles buy property insurance (at least for their private homes).

Food / Polish food's impact on health and longevity [16]

The table in the article only shows 20 countries (even though the title claims 32 countries).. I assume Poland is on the 17th place (but then why they claim US is on the 17 place). Not a very scientific source I guess.

But food is very important for longevity - Polish foods is not that healthy though. Too much greasy foods like kielbasa, kaszanka, too much pork. Good are kapusta (golabki, bigos), pierogies.

USA, Canada / Green Card Marriage ad leads to arrest [18]

Can I go to the government and tell them to arrest my wife (whom I may not like anymore) because on the day she married me she said she liked my car (more than me)?

USA, Canada / Green Card Marriage ad leads to arrest [18]

She was fair enough to admit what she was looking for. I guess it's not worth being open about what you really think these days.

I'm sure it was one of the Craiglist "national" user who reported it to FBI, not FBI itself.

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

Is drinking water in Poland good?

I would say it's good or more than good. Many streams in Poland - both in the mountains and Baltic sea (even though I would always choose the mountain water).

USA, Canada / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election according to Polish and foreign people [90]

Does anyone know who EXACTLY determines which candidate of the particular party is to be the chosen one to run for presidential elections? I mean - currently there are a few Democratic and Republican candidates. But in the end only one will be chosen in "pre-elections."

To me they first look at their budget and then what the person represents; that's why it doesn't usually work for the good of the society.

Ok, I found the answer to the above question here:

USA, Canada / New USA visa regulations [19]

It's a thoughtless political move to me. After PO/Tusk won the elections in Poland, the new Polish government is not so happy to talk about close friendship with the US. But by this move the US is shooting themselves in a foot - if not Poland to be friend in Europe, then who?

By showing their muscles the US government won't find happy partners. As I wrote before, soon they will be sending free invitations to Poles when they realize they are the best workers/money spenders/entrepreneurs they can get out there.

USA, Canada / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election according to Polish and foreign people [90]

Yet a few months ago I thought Hillary would be the best choice. But now I realize she is being manipulated by pharmacy/oil/other industry lobbyists and in fact she would be their puppet if she was chosen a president. Plus her irrational view on immigration issues (that "illegal" immigrants should not be allowed to drive a car in the US, because American drivers license is a "privilege", not a tool that should determine if the person is capable of driving or not). So no, sorry Hillary, better luck in 5 years.

As the result I think Obama, after all, will be the best choice. Hopefully he would not give in to $$$ as easily as the other candidates.

--

Of course, most likely the other Democratic or Republicans would overall be better, but since they don't have enough funds to be chosen by their party, the decison is between Clinton and Obama. So chosing between two not the best choices.

History / Potoccy Magnate Family in Politics and History [23]

If you are Julie Potocka, you should name it the Potocki Family (not Potoccy) family. But it depends on the historical content too.

Either way, Potocki is a very famous/historic name in Poland.

Love / Advice for meeting her Polish parents! [44]

Also, ask your girfriend if there are to be any other members of her family (like sisters, brothers etc.) - then a good box of chocolates won't hurt to carry with you; they will find it nice.

Love / Advice for meeting her Polish parents! [44]

Nice bucket of flowers for the Mother and a good vodka or foreign whiskey for the Father won't hurt. Be sure not to show fake smile - they will notice that and probably won't appreciate that too much. Be natural.

Oh, and try to eat the food they offer so go there with empty stomach.:)

"Myślał indyk o niedzieli, a w sobotę łeb mu ścięli."

The turkey (animal) was thinking about Sunday, but on Saturday they chopped off his head.

Life / Free School Bus Services in Poland - do they exist? [12]

Unfortunately, from what I can tell, they don't exist in Poland. Unless some private bus companies are hired by some schools, but it's not funded by the government like in the US.

Study / Preschool/ Kindergartens in Lodz? [5]

I don't see why they wouldn't take non-Polish kids - it would actually be beneficial for both Polish and English kids to get familiar with the foreign languages. I bet there are at least a few of such preschools or kindergardens in Lodz that would do it.

At this season of the year (winter) I doubt there are any open golf courses not only in Lodz, but in the whole Poland (unless mini golf courses under the roof).

News / Donald Tusk - Polish Prime Minister's Expose [13]

Now the time for talks ends and we'll see what he and the new Polish government can do. I only worry that the changes Tusk wants to introduce will be done too quickly and that would be a way to potential loopholes and further corruption.
