Food / family recipes [25]

Yeh I remember them , a shortcrust pastry deep fried Mum called them "Krustki"..All those calories mmm.

It's called either "chrust" -( say " hroost") or "faworki" (favors):
4 egg yolks
3 heaping tblsp of sour cream
2 tblsp rum or brandy
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
11/4 cups flour
oil for deep frying
confectioner's sugar

Combine egg yolks, sour cream, rum, vanilla. Mix in flour. If dough too stiff, add more sour cream. Knead dough about 10 minutes. Roll out dough as thin as possible. Cut into 5x2-inch strips. Make a 2-inch slit from center almost to one end of each strip, then pull opposite end through slit. Repeat with remaining dough. Fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar. Makes about 2.1/2 dozen

What does he look like? Is he cute?

"Pyszczek" is a nice way of saying somebody's face. It means: "Darling little face".

Wolfie. Let's start from the very beginning, nice and easy to follow steps:
1. See the "browse..." thing-a-ling on the bottom of this thing here?
2. click on it.
3. If picture doesn't go through, it's too big. You need to resize it. Go to picresize.com and resize by 25 or 50%
4. Try your luck again.

I can't wait to see your pyszczek

Law / American girl and Polish guy. How do we get married? [9]

Nice.. Krysia's answer should be sticked.

I'd rather have bolo sticked....

If you marry a US citizen and you already have your green card, then you wait only three years to get US citizenship.
If you do not marry a US citizen, then you have to wait 5 years.
You are allowed to have dual-citizenship.

Law / American girl and Polish guy. How do we get married? [9]

OK. Let me explain some things.
1.If you guys want to get married in Poland and if you don't have Polish citizenship, you have to get an Ok from the court to do so. This might take about a month. After that you can get married, but then you will apply for an imigrant visa for him which will take anywhere from 4-6 months after which he can come to the US and get a job because that's the same as a green card.

2. You can apply for a fiance visa, which can take anywhere from 4-9 months, after which once he enters into the US you have 90 days to get married and then he will get a green card to work, very quickly.

3. You can try to sponsor him to get a tourist visa, which is usually denied, unless you're a student or an older person promising that you will return back to Poland. If you get lucky, and are approved, you will know right away, then once he's in America, you guys get married and then wait for the green card, usually about a year. It costs 300 zł. each time you go to the US Embassy for a visa.

4. He can take a trip to Mexico, you meet him there and cross the border together, but make sure he's not dressed like a European. The Mexican patrols like to look at shoes, which is a dead give-away. This is a little risky. Scratch this idea out. Never mind. And don't ask me how I know this.

5. He can enter the US on a business visa, if his job has relations in the US and is required to represent the company. But probably not likely.

6. Last way is to have a company in the US agree to hire him, send all their tax information to the Embassy, and enter on a work visa. But this also will take 4-9 months.

So in my opinion, the best way is the fiance visa. You must have pictures of you guys together to prove that you love each other and intend to marry, because that way he gets a green card right away and everything is legal. There are lawyers out there who will do this for you, they say they can do it in 4 months, but they take a lot of money.

Confused? Need more info.?

Travel / NEW YORKER GOIN TO POLAND FOR VACATION... [4]

Zakopane has a lot of nice women. A bit touristy. But if you rent a car, any town is worth stopping and looking around. You can find areas to sleep along the way, there are guest houses everywhere. Really cheap. About 40 złoty a night or less - that's about $15.00 or less. Lublin has a nice castle, Zamość. Make sure you have change for the toilets. They usually charge 1.00 zł. Food is good everywhere. Gas stations are more primitive, but they are improving. Lot of small grocery stores everywhere and a big selection. Good sausages and cold meats. There are bazars or targi where you can buy everything from clothing to food. Parks are well kept.

It all depends what you are interested in.

Genealogy / DO YOU KNOW THIS FAMILY (DLUGIEWICZ)? [20]

Hi Sarah.
This is what I did. I got on that site and posted the information you requested along with the names and dates. I have included your e-mail address if someone might have any information. If you want, you can go on the site and see it. I posted myself as krysgrys. The only problem might be if someone contacts you, it might be in polish. And if your grandfather can't read it, then you can post it here, and I'm sure Bolo or somebody else will come along and translate it nicely for you.
