saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #1Can anyone out there in Poland help me?????I am desperately seeking ANY information on the DLUGIEWICZ surname. I know that it is particularly rare, and is very focused to the Wielkopolskie region; from the information that I have, it would seem that I am related to practically every living DLUGIEWICZ that exists in Poland today!!!My Great Grandfather was Hipolit Dlugiewicz, born 1898 at Krotoszyn. He married Gertruda Grzywaczewska on the 23rd of April, 1923. She was born in 1901.Despite my endless piles of letters and emails to Poland, I have still failed to gain access to any kind of physical records. Help would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows of any good websites.Even better, do you know the family!?!?!?THANKS!SarahEnglandxxx
bolo 2 | 304 12 Sep 2006 / #2It's rare name indeed.. Don't know anyone with that surname. DLUGOWICZ could be slightly more popular.
OP saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #4Sep 12 2006, 14:13 - Topic attached on merging:Krotoszyn, WielkopolskiePlease can someone tell me where I can find searchable, or just readable records for this Parish on the web.Surname interests: Dlugiewicz, Grzywaczewski, Wachowiak, Wolniak and Hylewicz.Thank you for any help.Sarahxx
OP saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #6No good. But thanks anyway. My Grandad's surname seems to have very few records anywhere! There are 4 on worsten.org, 1 on polandgenweb, and the rest are either alive or I can't work out how or where they fit into our tree.Any other ideas?xx----From Admin: saz1885, please Do Not open new topics about the same subject or post the same message more than once.
OP saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #8Nope. Tried that one too. I have tried all of the English ones that I can think of. I have even used my knowledge of the Polish language to surf the web, and have found myself on genealogiapolska, polishroots, polandgenweb, genpol, herby, and many, if not all of their corresponding links.I have even used a language translator to enter as many different search terms as I can think of with no success. Thus I turn to you - the Polish - the most experienced of all - for help in my quest.I have reached a brick wall. Even my letter to the Parish returned a dead end. What do I do now?Admit defeat, or battle on as my ancestors would have wanted?
bolo 2 | 304 12 Sep 2006 / #9What do you need this information for so desparately? Wouldn't it be better to live the present rather than the past?
OP saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #10Err...genealogy just happens to be the study of family 'history'. And in addition to that, I am proud of my Polish heritage, and thus want to find out as much as I can about it - my Grandfather is not getting any younger; there is only so much he can tell me, and once he is gone, all I will have is a surname! So yes, I am desperate! It would be wonderful to share a little piece of my life with him, especially since he lives nearly 200miles away.
Wroclaw 44 | 5,379 12 Sep 2006 / #12You battle on of course.Have you been to a web-site [message board] for the area the family came from.
OP saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #13No. That's a fantastic idea! How do i go about finding one? Krotoszyn, Wielkopolskie if you know of any.xxCheers for that.xx
Wroclaw 44 | 5,379 12 Sep 2006 / #14Look for the nearest big city and you might find links.Or just google and see what comes up.
OP saz1885 12 Sep 2006 / #15Please can someone help? This could be the break i have been waiting for in my genealogy. At forum.krotoszyn.com.plall I want to do is ask if anyone knows anything about the Dlugiewicz surname. But i don't have a clue. Too much Polish, even for my Grandad, and he is Polish!!!It must be simple enough?!?!Instructions on how to post please. N.B: I have signed up already.Thanks.x===From Admin: Please keep posting in the original topic.
krysia 23 | 3,058 12 Sep 2006 / #16Hi Sarah. This is what I did. I got on that site and posted the information you requested along with the names and dates. I have included your e-mail address if someone might have any information. If you want, you can go on the site and see it. I posted myself as krysgrys. The only problem might be if someone contacts you, it might be in polish. And if your grandfather can't read it, then you can post it here, and I'm sure Bolo or somebody else will come along and translate it nicely for you.
