Real Estate / Advice on what Polish city to invest in.... [101]

but if the young people keep leaving who will be their voice?

It will have to be a few clever, young, minds who move into politics.

but why not stand up to your gov't and be heard? You young people are the future of Poland!!

Young and old don't seem to think alike. There are more 'old folk' than young. So, in a straight vote the young may never win.

Only three percent of the UK is Muslim. So hardly overrun. [from the BBC, today]

Language / REGON PODMIOTU [23]

I think REGON Podmiotu is an identity number assigned to each company registered in Poland. Something like EIN number in the US.

Didn't I say that.

Life / Etiquette at Polish weddings [15]

Much the same as any other country. Wear your best bib 'n' tucker. Find out if they want a gift or cash. [some couples would rather have cash] They will provide the booze.

Main point: Polish weddings can last two days and sometimes more.

It's a number given to you by the government. I think. Along the lines of post #4.

Law / Staffing agency in Wroclaw [6]

Is Wroclaw a fine city to start an Staffing agency or should we go to another city like Warsaw?

If you want access to young people [students] there are 100,000+ in Wroclaw.

In the age of the internet, does it really matter where you set up shop.

Travel / Warsaw travellers advice [22]

me i will be there four days going to be brave and tackle the height of palace of culture and science :)

When you step out of the lift, at the top, your feet don't feel like part of your body. It's because of the speed of the lift. It's weird.

Tele, when are you in Wroclaw.

News / Thoughts on present day Lech Walesa [27]

I understand him perfectly well and I'm born in UK - Polish my second language.

I wasn't making it up. When Lech was President and when he made a speech someone spoke on top of him because his language was so bad.

Next time he speaks I'll listen, but I doubt he'll change my opinion.

Thoughts on present day Lech Walesa

The only Pole on Polish television who is overdubbed because no-one can understand what he is saying. True.

History / Jewish belongings [118]

I allways wonderd if Polish peopole even this days are fineding some jewish stuff

Many people in Poland, when they knew something was going to happen, hid many things in a nearby wood or forest. Some dug a hole in the garden and buried everything.

When the russians came they had no respect for anything and whatever was left was destroyed. I have found all manner of broken things in the garden. No treasure yet.

In some areas of nowadays Poland the Jewish population might have left before WWII started.

News / Why do Poland block the European Constitution? [68]

On the BBC News today an interviewee said "It's payback"

And this is Poland at its best. Living in the past. How can you move forward when all that is on your mind is the past.

UK, Ireland / Unemployed due to Polish who work in the UK [126]

it really doesn't matter if you have an accent or not.

Yes it does. It can mean the difference between getting a job and not getting a job.

You should aim for what is called mid-atlantic. It's when you sound English or maybe American, but you can't be pigeon holed.

Another thing I've noticed about accent is that you can tell who was taught by a Polish national and a foreign national. To give yourself an individual sound, speak to many different people.

I'm in two minds over this. 1. People have the freedom to move about. 2. Germans are starting to take building jobs here in Wroclaw.

Yes, I can see your point. One difference, shops here seem to make a point of not selling English food. It's Tesco's policy not to sell English/British food.
