Language / Basic words to say to a Polish girl? [40]

I have never seen such beautiful eyes...

Im not sure about the education system in the USA, but if a teacher in the UK said that to a 12 year old girl he wouldn't be a teach for very long after ;-)

Had to move the tiff, but this was amusing.

News / Superstitions about chimney sweepers and snake in Polish gardens [52]

Ive been told never take a light from a candle, something to do with sailors at sea

Light houses used to use candles to worn of rocks. Some lighthouse keeper accidentally put the candle out trying to light a smoke, and a ship crash into the rocks as a result.

or

Fishing boats used to carry water tight lanterns so they could see each other through the winter darkness. If a light went out it meant the North Atlantic had claimed another boat and more lives. So it came to be that the flame of a candle represented a spirit. To light a cigarette off a candle is not only disrespectful to the sailor that died, but steals some of his spirit away.

News / The past and future of Poland. Poland is lost. [113]

One thing he said was in the stores here the staff are outgoing and helpful, yet in Poland he said they are not?

Customer service isn't the best and they can look a bit miserable and inconvenienced if you want something...

It's just a country for British drunks to come for stag parties...

You're forgetting the Italians and the Germans... :)

it's just another European country with old crumbly buildings

Now that's your view and a rather shallow one at that, scratch the surface and these "old crumbly buildings" have many stories to tell, but I suppose you have to have some kind of interest in history and love of architecture to understand that.

Rafik. Dont worry. The exchange rate to the dollar will collpase and will climb back over 3PLN in another year. Oil and interest rates are the only things which collpased the dollar against all European currencies. When your housing market begins to implode, and it will, and the US increases interest rates, and we will, I'll be paying 5 bucks for a fine meal in Krakow once again and 250 USD for rent..and sleeping with your sister...for free.

Poland has moved on and I would suggest you do the same...

why?i live in the uk so why should use AE?geez, man you r so ignorant.

You speak property English don't you sweety :)

you better wash your legs

Better his mouth with soap and water...

Life / Smokers in Poland..... price rise. [47]

so how can you say that smokers cost whole society?

Because statistically smokes are supposed to have more illnesses related to smoking - personally I think we should put a big tax on fast food because fatties cost the health service even more!

revenue from tax off smokers is about 1billion a year...a quarter of that is spent on smoking related health problems...you do the maths..

It was a blast, quite the little head turner (we had a ghetto blaster in the car, I will add here I was only 17 at the time).... ;-) As for driving in Wraclaw...maybe not...

UK, Ireland / Questions about obtaining a UK mortgage with Polish girlfriend. [24]

I think any market which has a potential for investment with a good return is worth looking at, you have the added bonus of knowing someone in the US who can at least offer some 'on the ground' advice, the only advantage of buying property in Europe is that you are close to it - sort out any problems that arise, buying in the USA doesn't offer the same convenience.

UK, Ireland / Questions about obtaining a UK mortgage with Polish girlfriend. [24]

What are peoples' thoughts about the forecasted 25% increase in UK house prices over the next few years, as bandied about in the newspapers over the last few days?

Anything is possible in the property market - lack of housing stock and rising population will have an impact on prices when the market becomes boyant again. Question is who will be able to afford them, since salaries are not increasing at the same pace.

News / On the verge of new and ideal world [63]

I'm sure if we pondered on that carefully, neither of us would be able to find a country he doesn't have any issues with except for those which he has never heard of.

True, but whilst the UE isn't perfect and we're not all bossom buddies, the majority of us agree on most things and this makes us strong.

Ah! Zimbabwe, I think that it is former GB colony South Rhodesia? Certainly it's English buisiness, but in the same time it's a perfect pretex to settle scores with you for Kosovo and NATO extension. Why not?

Why not? maybe to save lives of people who are being murdered on a daily basis because of a corrup government...Yes you are right it is a FORMER, meaning no longer, but maybe some people still feel a responsibility to help.

Interesting :

Good friends can be hypocritical, it's not always nice to hear certain things, but I would expect my friends to be honest.

Partners are like associates, here today gone tomorrow and not necessarily to be counted on in times of trouble.

I honestly didn't really have any issues with Russia until their recent stance on the Mugabe situation, maybe Russia will accept the 1,000s of Assylum seekers fleeing Zimbabwe in the coming months?

I think that it is rather honest...should we sell them our goods if they execrate us?

Ever notice the spoilt kid at school with all the sweets didn't have many friends, that's a bit like Russia :) I also say that oil is the only reason you won the euro vision song contest :)

News / Conroversial Palikot or not [19]

He also acquired a license to turn his factory in Lublin into a biofuel refinery, but that was a couple of years ago and nothing has been heard about it since.

Then he has done the right thing since the UK have realised that they have made massive mistakes in changing crops over for biofuels....more proffit in "real crops"

sorry to go off topic :)
