As an example L&M Lights have just gone up from 6.50 to 8.05 zloty.

This is part of the government campaign to raise prices... for whatever reason.

Nope. It just means they spend less on something else. And the government get more money. Plus the money they'll make from people in Warsaw who forget about the public shelter smoking ban on September the 1st.

I wonder how many people will get caught out that day!

Holly Moley!
I just gave up smoking 4 months ago. I smoked L&M, that's some price jump.
It is scandalis, even though I do not smoke anymore, there certainly seems that there s going to be prohibition on cigarettes in our mollycoddolling nanny union.

There is a thing in the whole of Europe these days to basically ban smoking, alcohole is fine, it is going up but not anything like that.

When, i bought lm red today, for only 6.75??

Some shops sell at the old rate until they are out of stock.
Time for you to stock up, big time, ha ha ha ha

Rip off Britain.

I remember years ago, must have been my first time there, drunk to hell in London somewhere, I bought a pack of smokes and the f%$£ing c^%$£ing machine gave me 16 in a box for 20, I bruised my knuckles punching and cursing the machine. ha ha ha

I was s annoyed ha ha ha.

And give up or enjoy. I smoked for years and refused to give up, I enjoyed them too much. got a chest cough and gave up. I still dream about smoking, I wake up feeling guilty ha ha ha.

16 in a box for 20,

That's right, the machines in pubs and clubs only dispensed boxes of sixteen for the same price as a box of 20 in the shops. Rip off indeed.

Are cigarettes advertised in Poland?

PolskaDoll

In the states too? or are you in england?
In every civilized country you get 20 smokes in a 20 box, even in night clubs.

As for the advertisement of smokes, I do not actually know...ha ha ha. probably, I do not remember

In Scotland.

I'll never know the reason behind the boxes of 16 (apart from it being a rip-off). I was never fussed because I never smoked.

Car drivers is different story. Oil is the foundation of economy and should be less taxed. Smoking is just a pleasure.

I'll never know the reason behind the boxes of 16

It used to be 18 and then they reduced them to 16...just another way of the vending machine companies to make more money...plus they cost about a £1 more I paid nearly £7 for a pack of sodding Lucky Strike the other week!...

Smoking is just a pleasure

Not for those poor bar stewards that tend the tobacco plants ;-) You see Mr WP smoking creates jobs too in a variety of industries if people didn't smoke what would happen to all those people in the factory where they make the boxes for the fags, what would the supplyer of card do if they stopped making the boxes, what about the printing company that print the logo on boxes? So it's far from being just a pleasure, it creates jobs for a considerable amount of people around the world.

As for the situation in Poland with prices rises, it's just a sign of the times, but I would say the increase of 1.50zl is quite steep it's a way to deter younger people from starting, it's working in the UK, aparently there are less people taking up the habbit and more giving it up.
