Work / The cost of an IT programmer in Poland? [9]

I think that 40-50 pln/h is ok (depending on experience and number of hours). For that rate you can expect that they'll work as self-employed and can send you invoices. Experienced PHP programmer makes 3000-5000PLN net per month working full-time depending on city/company.

Life / Where to get a cup of coffee in Warsaw? [40]

Idiot.

maybe you...

If you don't believe me, try sitting in a cafe and refuse to buy anything. You'll soon find out how public the place is.

ok, you're right it's not public place... on the other hand I always have to breathe in smoke in places like bus stations, my own balcony!, office toilets and so on... moreover no smoking rooms in restaurants are often a fiction...

Life / Where to get a cup of coffee in Warsaw? [40]

Unfortunately in many places this is true! but soon, very soon it will change - at last - no smokers in public places ! :D

and what about coffee places... it's not that popular in Poland to go to such places so there is not too many clients and that's why prices are high.

Love / polish boyfriend has wrecked my english [48]

the thing with picking up some sentences/sayings from people that you often see is quite normal... and it has nothing to do with some specific languages. Just simple example.. I've started new job some time ago... a colleague of mine (we share the same room in an office) always says 'siemanko' as a greeting when he comes in in the morning... at first I thought it is quite weird word as I haven't heard it earlier too often... a few weeks later I've noticed that I also say 'siemanko' when I enter the room ;)

ps. siemanko = siema (or sie ma) = cześć in Polish...

Life / Good Gym's in Poznań? [23]

chick's gym

I think it is pretty streight forward ;)

chick's gym - gym for chicks (depending for context it might mean that only girls can exercise there or no real pudzian-like man would go there ;-)

Language / mój vs. swój [9]

moj and swoj has similar meaning - which one should be used? it depends on context...but i think that swoj is hardly ever used... and by the way - it should be 'to moja ziomalka'...... 'to swoja ziomalka' doesn't make any sense...

but hell..i'm not good at grammar :D sorry ;)

examples:

to moj pies - it's my dog
to moje - it's mine
nienawidze tracic swojego czasu - i hate wasting my time

but the last sentence could be also translated as nienawidze tracic mojego czasu

so you can use both words in this case.....well it's complicated :D sometimes you can use both, simetimes one just sounds better that another and that's it ;)

Life / Living In Poland For The Expat [67]

just one more question: Is it possible to rent 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in the center of Warsaw for 1.000 EUR?

Of course... I think that you will have to pay around ~700 EUR... but it depends on flat standard.

For example this is what you can get for 1k EUR: 4 rooms, 110 squere meters, parking place... close to subway station.

use gumtree and find what you need....

Life / Need some advices from fellow expats in Wawa [14]

Hey,

I saw the prices which Harry gave and though that maybe I will write down some info from a perspective of a typical Pole in Warsaw

cheap restaurants or maybe rather 'restaurants':

20-30 PLN for meal (one person)

'normal-prices' restaurants

40 - 60 PLN for meal

expensive ones

>60 PLN

Travel / Wedding in Krasnik, which airport to fly into from UK (Warsaw or Cracow)? [4]

I think Lublin has an airport.

Yeah... one day it will have one. They say that an airport in Świdnik will be finished by the end of 2012....we will see ;)

I think Warsaw would be your best bet.

You're right - Warsaw is the best option. When you're in Warsaw you can take train or bus and be in Lublin in ~3 hours. Maybe there are some private buses which will take you straight to Krasnik from Warsaw... I'm not sure..... in case they don't exist you will take a bus in Lublin and be in Krasnik in 20-30 minutes.

Love / 3 Polish Men.. it isnt just me right???? [25]

haha but i'm feeling that i alot of polish guys arent looking in my direction, maybe because im black.

it's possible... but in the other way than you think. There aren't many black people in Poland so some guys won't look at you just because they may think that you may think that they're staring at you just because you're black... racist thing, you know. It's stupid... but it might be the case.
