What should Poland and Poles do, after first day of nuclear war? [133]
Rubbish, Stalin would have our Home Army shot and murdered anyway
I don't believe this would have been possible for Stalin, if indeed the Polish army stayed in tact. Furthermore, if Poland was actually a reliable and useful ally, I don't think Stalin would want to trivialize this enitirely by wiping out the entire intelligentsia of the country, right away. Such a large purge... I see it highly unlikely that it would happen so efficiently in non-chaotic/war environment. It would be the blood of many Red Army soldiers.
Who knows if it would even come to blows with Germany? Such an alliance would have at least made Germany think twice, especially if France and England still held on their guarantees to Poland (however fruitless they were), that was unknown to Hitler.
Stalin was more interested in Ukraine and some portions of Eastern Poland, as well as a bulwark against the Nazi's. If Poland would given into such demands, but in turn, asked for support against Nazi Expansion... it's not out of this world..
We see that Stalin allied himself with fascists, liberal democracies, even republican govermnent in Spain was aided by Soviets because it was preferred to the communists over fascism. He was not nearly as concerned with whom he allied himself with, as long as it met some goal.
The important people would still die, Stalin had very specific views on Inteligentsia, the economy would still get broken, the country would still lose its sovereignty and we would still not be able to partake in Marshalls plan and have to build huge heavy industry which was expensive and pointless.
Like I said, there would have been less destruction overall. I am looking at this in pure practical sense. Numbers wouldn't even be close.
Re-settlement? Any links for those numbers? I don't think he would show any more mercy, but he surely was not a moron.
