News / NEW PATRIOT MISSILES FOR POLAND [178]

Law does not equal morality, you can be a supranational hegemony and follow the law, one that you have established

The Golden Rule: Those with the gold make the rules.

Love / Do not marry Polish woman [212]

If you trim them, and save them up, you can make a nice mohair beret, for later in life.

Life / PYTA ANYONE? [11]

with its absolute ban on corporal punishment

Like chemical castration?

this was used as needed so as not to raise kids that turn out like today's selfish, molly-coddled brats.

I am personally responsible for keeping the wooden spoon industry afloat in the early to late 1970's. With a little help from mom, that is.

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

dripping with fat, your average "Rosół" had a 5 milimeters thick layer of fat..

Fortunately, the better half skims the soups pretty good. Leaves me plenty of room to get my empty calories from the Zywiec bottle.

History / Matters of Propaganda...Or: how was the West portrayed in Poland? [150]

But they at least tried it and paid with more than 900 people murdered at the wall over the years...

Do you have a source? Wiki claims anywhere from ~100-200...

The all knowing Wike claims:

The Wall included guard towers lining large concrete walls circumscribing a wide area (later known as the "death strip") containing anti-vehicle trenches, "fakir beds" and other defenses. After its erection, around 5,000 people attempted to escape circumventing the wall, with estimates of the resulting death toll varying between 98 and 200.

USA, Canada / USA, the nation of immigrants [30]

crazy.

It works, somewhat. There is a thing called right of way. Usually reserved for the guy on the right.

At an intersection with stop signs at all corners, you must yield the right-of-way to the first vehicle to come to a complete stop. If two vehicles stop at the same time, the vehicle on the left should yield to the vehicle on the right.

UK, Ireland / What is good about being in the UK? [140]

the difference between being a cleaner (unskilled) and being a banker (skilled) that's life. End of.

You were on a roll, until you mentioned the skilled Banker thing. Your post lost a lot of credibility on that one. ;-)

News / Why are Polish politicians so bad at accepting bribes? [17]

I ran into a politician in Poland. She wouldn't let me use the loo unless I greased her palm with a zloty, she was so insistent on it. It went against my morals, but I coughed up because it was urgent.

Food / Recipe for Kotlet Schabowy (in English) [15]

Maybe (if you fry in butter or smalec) add a little water to the pan. I've seen that done here and though it sounds odd, it works.

The Matka in Law used to finish up with the frying (not even sure if it was 100% cooked through, but I would make sure it is) and then take them out of the frying pan, and put them in a pan with a bit of water and let them all simmer for a brief time. Not crispy by any stretch of the imagination, but tender as a love poem, and the sauce went necely on the 'tatoes.

Edit: Be sure to post some pictures!
