UK, Ireland / Heading to London.Whats there to see? [45]

I am, and no doubt others will also be, happy to suggest a few places to see in a short trip to London but it would help narrow it down if you could give us an idea what sort of places! Cultural sites, the big touristy places, places to eat, clubs, pubs, parks, museums. It's a big place !

Cost of living is high but there are still some relativey cheap places to eat and drink if you are prepared to travel around a bit.

Travel / Visiting Sopot this summer? [36]

According to the Daily Mail you should consider employing an English Plumber for this position!

News / EU or America - which country is better to work now? [56]

especially an IT solutions consulting business. Is there really all of this opportunity in the UK

Yes, provided you have the solution or the consulting expertise in the right markets or technologies. Many of us who used to work for the big consulting companies have done just that. The overheads that they have are easy to undercut as long as you have the answers to their claims that you are paying for world class back office and research capabilities - whihc IMHO is largely a myth.

Travel / Visiting Sopot this summer? [36]

the sopot festival is at the start of september

Sounds good. I just need to check with my full time travel arranger (aka missus). She tends to organise holidays years in advance and then drop little surprises on me with 2 weeks notice. There is also the little problem of a major system that I'm working on going live in stages between Sept & Oct.

Travel / Visiting Sopot this summer? [36]

am running a guesthouse in sopot this summer

Good luck with the venture BW. The location sounds great. Not for us this summer as the Canadian Rockies beckon. How long is the season for? Might be tempted to take upyour offer for a later season break if you're still going to be open.

UK, Ireland / Whats needed for Poles to work in the UK [4]

National Insurance Number first and foremost. You can apply in advance as long as you have some form of correspondence to your home address with her name on. Either her passport or national ID card will be needed. Armed with that you can register at a doctors and (in theory a dentist, but good luck finding one taking on new NHS patients). Bank account you've covered.

Oh to register in advance for NI number you will need some sort of proof that she is actively looking for work. If she has a job lined up then get the employer's offer letter. If not the trick is to register with a job agency and get them to provide a letter stating that she is registered

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

No Mr Khan. It is you who are being insulting. You accuse 90% of Poles of being uneducated. Have a look at the use of English by the Polish people on this Forum and compare it with your inane ramblings. I think you have outstayed your welcome here.

Mr szarlotka if have managed to get some education which i believe 90% of you don't

I have a first degree from Oxford, A masters from MIT and a MBA from a leading French business school so I guess I'm in the 10%.:)

What was the condition of polish people before u were allowed to be part of EU

You had better ask the Poles that question. A cursory look at my profile would reveal that I am English

Who came first into sub-continent in early 1700-1947.

And your point is? You stated that the sub continent and China were the best countries. I was interested to know why you chose to do your degree in my country. A simple question that you have not answered.

History / Video of polish soldier history [39]

The RAF pilots were most polish and czechs !

Oh really? Not according to the roll of pilots that I've seen (see below). Note that British also includes a relatively small number of Commonwealth pilots with British passports.

British 2340
Americans 9
Australians 32
Barbados 1
Belgians 28
Canadians 112
Czechoslovakians 89
Free French 13
Irish 10
Jamacians 1
Newfoundland 1
New Zealanders 127
Polish 145
South Africans 25
Southern Rhodesians 3
TOTALS 2936

Certainly the Polish squadrons were recognised as being something special by the British Pilots. The other acknowledged contribution was the tactics that the Poles and Czechs in particular brought in dog fighting from the Polish pilots who had fought the Lutfwaffe in the early days of the war. The change of tactics saved many lives.

To conclude, all pilots who fought in the BOB were selfless and brave and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.

Feedback / Rule 6 & Michal [11]

According to Monty Python there is NO RULE 6. We could, however, get him on rule 1 - not drinking after lights out.

Tinky Winky from tellytubbies outed in Poland

Look Tinky Winky is not gay. I recall that he is purple and his handbag is red. No gay person would make this horrible fashion faux pas. Tinky Winky is a macho !

History / What has Poland contributed to the Western civilisation? [69]

I guess the Particle Physicists are getting excited these days with the Hadron Collider coming on stream in Cern. Now that is a scary subject and way beyond me. My brother in law is big time into particles and loses me before the first course has finished. And to think I used to teach him maths.

History / What has Poland contributed to the Western civilisation? [69]

but it's very interesting stuff

It's fascinating. I have a good grounding in the subject but the pace of change in research is mind blowing at the moment. It is difficult to keep up with it.

USA, Canada / Gas prices in America [127]

but our gas prices keep going up..

There are a number of reasons why even US gas prices are increasing at present. Political instability in Iraq and Nigeria (production is down by over 600,000 barrels a day because of the wave of kidnappings and the success of the local insurgents in Nigeria). Also many US refineries are having extended maintenance and shut downs. There are a lot of tankers being diverted from Holland as I write to replenish US stocks. Bottom line is there is a supply shortage. Bad news is we in the UK will be paying over £1 a litre very soon.
