UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

I haven't met a nationality so eager to complain about their country of origin

Very true. Almost on a par with the Brits for moaning about things in general and their country in particular - but woe betide you if you are not Polish and you join in!

Yes I think it's about money and short term opportunity. For the young ones I guees there is also the travel bug and to some of them the UK was the cash fuelling stop before they went off travelling further afield.

Law / can a polish one-person company run in Uk [3]

Yes is the short answer. He can set up as sole trader or as a limited company. The tax treatment is different. As for choosing where to pay tax the English and Polish tax authorities will have a say in that. There are tax equalisation agreements in place and it will all depend on how many days you are in each country (total days not just working days). But basically it's reasonably easy to set up a small company here. Then the paperwork starts which is a royal pain in the bottom but I guess it's similar in PL too.

Love / Mexican in love with Polish girl. Need advice on what to do. [49]

That's good advice Shewolf. I am not sure whether he has ANY residency status, even from Mexico (by which I mean with ID/passport etc). Before he even thinks about where to marry his GF in Europe he needs that initial status. If it's Mexico then he runs the risk of never returning to the US if he has to leave to get those documents. That's a big risk that only he can assess against completion of the first step on settling down with his GF.

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

we have both decided to go back to my country and get married

This means you will find it much harder to come back to the UK. You will stand more of a chance if you marry here (and marriage in Poland will not help much. Even if you are married her you will have to convince the authorities that this is not a marriage of convenience and you will be granted only a two year residency status. At the end of two years you can apply for full residency status.

This is a quick overview. Your actual status here at present (student visa?) will impact the process. Basically this is a very complicated area and you probably need advice from an immigration lawyer

Yeh I know. Bit of a vicious repsonse from me I guess but the tone of the original post got my goat a bit. I'm a hard man!

Love / Getting my Polish girlfriend back?? [32]

Better to have loved and lost than not at all

In my view in this case, where there is a young child involved, I strongly disagree I'm afraid. I actually think it is totally irresponsible. But there again I'm probably too moral for rmy own good <smile>

UK, Ireland / Flooding in Northern England [74]

i think it going to have quite a dramatic effect on our economy.

It will certainly increase the premiums for home insurance. I told them not to build on the flood plains but would they listen?

Love / Getting my Polish girlfriend back?? [32]

Sorry but but what did you expect from entering into a relationship with a woman living with her boyfriend and their (I presume it's their) child. Someone was going to be hurt in all that and it looks like it's going to be you.

Love / Getting my Polish girlfriend back?? [32]

Hmm, from what you have said so far it looks all the world to me that she is playing with you. If she loved you she would be with you not her boyfriend. Sounds to me like you've got no chance for a long term relationship so go now before you get hurt even more.

Love / Which is better? Being single or being in a relationship? [92]

The bottom line is that I don't know what I want.

Ken, very few of us really do know what we truly want. I think you are setting big targets when little ones are needed. You have to take some chances and just accept you will get rejeced, make a fool of yourself or get hurt. You don't need to feel low about yourself. You are obvioulsy a good person. Come on - JFDI

Love / Which is better? Being single or being in a relationship? [92]

This isn't mission difficult, its mission impossible

Strikes me Ken that you're talking yourself out of it again. Every single post I have read of yours tells me you're a great guy with bags of respect and tolerance for others. You have a very dry sense of humour too. In short you're just the sort of bloke that a lot of girls will really appreciate. Just stick at it and take a few small chances now and again. Rejection hurts I know but it's not fatal. Not long now. And now you have an angel eyes as a mentor and supporter it's going to be easier still

PS - I enjoyed the Padraig show too

i guess i'll get a few nut jobs saying how sad and deep i am

Not at all. This was a nice post that shows up some of the good things that happen here.

Personally I would have described it as sad and shallow <only messing>

UK, Ireland / Trying to find out what Poles like to do in the UK [35]

they are new to the country

Precisley. And what would a bunch of Brits do if the situation was in reverse? They'd stick together at first. Just look at the number of posts looking for expats to hang out with in Poland. Integration takes time.
