Life / Doing laundry in Poland [66]

What about healthy food ? And actually food that has a good taste and is not plastic ?

There is plenty of organic fruit, vegetables and meat in the stores, if that's your fancy. It is more expensive, but to me worth every penny. I mostly cook for myself but I have some frozen, organic dishes for "emergency" lunches, when I don't feel like making anything or I'm too busy to spent time in the kitchen. They are very good. Most of my shopping is done at Trader Joe's (also Polish delis) and I'm lucky I got one close by. I buy conventionally grown food as well. However, I stay away from food in cans or processed foods...

I find the food in The US very tasty. Restaurants (not fast food ones) are pretty inexpensive and most serve wonderful, wholesome food.
I bought two bunches of fresh mint (among other goodies) and I made a jar of "my own" mint tea today. I love it cold from the fridge. It's my favorite summer drink.

One of my friends makes a trip to Wisconsin occasionally and gets a "half a cow" or so from a farmer they know, to keep in the freezer for her carnivorous husband, who wants to eat 'grass fed' beef only...

There are plenty of good choices, it just involves more time. The conventional food can not be that bad...my neighbor is 87 or 88 years old, healthy, sharp minded and her favorite food is a can of soup. :)

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

No... I don't see any reason why I should do that.

Well then, until you see the reason, maybe you should stay in Poland.
You don't want anybody coming to your home and moving your furniture around, do you?

Calm down. No threats please. We're not going back to dark ages executing eye for an eye methods of punishment.

Life / Jaywalking in Poland ? [38]

i made up a surname "Goldberg" which puzzled the police officers because it didn't sound like a typical Polish surname to them and then to my astonishment they let me go.

You did not have to show documents? Odd.

I also had a pleasure to be caught in a small town of Jedrzejow about 3 years ago. Luckily, I was just warned about crossing the street away from the cross walk (zebra). Maybe because, after his first words from his mouth were 'Documenty prosze" (Documents please) I showed him my US Passport. The policeman smiled and he was nice.

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

Eurola gay in poland!! ===== NIGDY!! It is also against our faith!

Fanaticism and nationalism brought the 2nd World War and it is the reason for current events in the world as well.

Closed minds need to be opened with education and love for another human being.

Faith/religion should never be used to judge others.

Lastly, nigdy nie mów nigdy "never say never".

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

Sędzia (Judge) is posting his judgements here and looks at the world in a very angry way. He doesn't like Americans, he wants Europe to inbreed...and

be a tight knit unity

. It's too late now. All Europeans might as well start to learn to love their neighbors because in a decade or so they will become darker and may speak a different language. Europe opened its borders and now the likes of sedzia need to learn to deal with it.

USA, Canada / Advice for Polish girlfriend getting tourist visa to visit America? [45]

Good question, but I don't think so. BW didn't need one to come see me, so I doubt that I need one to come see him.

Ranj, on April 1st, you've made many of us here fools about the BW romance...Hey it was NOT April fools, was it?. What gives? Anyway, it sounds like the two of you hit it off.

I HOPE IT IS TRUE AND WONDERFUL! :)

Genealogy / Were is Ostrowo Budy?? [8]

I suspect Ostrowo is the town and Budy is a part of the town like Warsaw - Ochota, Warsaw - Wola, Chicago - Portage Park etc.

UK, Ireland / Change my mind about poles in the uk [42]

It doesn't sound to me like you are describing polish people at all. Polish people are very friendly and will gladly talk to you, if you talk to them. I agree that they might keep together if their English is limited, but not because they don't want to talk to you. They are not able to express themselves fully, so they prefer speaking polish...

Not a good idea, because practice makes perfect, especially when there is someone willing to try to listen and understand.

It won't stop that.

Perhaps, you're right. It won't stop that completely. It will only stop the less computer savvy ones. I'm glad that Admin is at least trying this approach.

In the next few days we'll make the whole forum for registered users only and we'll see how it goes.

I think it would be great. It would eliminate "flight by night" trolls and so called Guests, not to mention the same person(s) under different names...

Love / Help me: about polish girls [12]

What kind of relationship is it, if you can not ask her all the questions? Is this relationship one sided? Maybe you think you are in relationship, but you are just a long time friend...(with benefits) <puzzled>

Life / How come Poles have 2 cars, mobile phones - but make so little money? [23]

True, but in Poland everyone is trying to "out materialize" their neighbor, friend, etc... everyone!

I can see the same type of behavior brought to the USA. It gets really bad if there are many people from the same town in Poland. They always rival with each other who got the most here, a bigger house, a more expensive car, a newer, bigger TV a most recent trip to some exotic place - you name it. People are so quick to reveal how much money they make and, it is always more than the person they are talking to. Yes they work hard for it, sometimes two jobs so they can brag and show off the goods they acquire. Listening to conversations like that makes me happy that I don't know of any person here who is from my town... :)

My American friends, my neighbors or my coworkers don't give a darn what I drive or what I wear and I don't judge them based on their earthly possessions either. We live in nice burbs, we have good jobs, we have houses/condos...whatever, but they are not a reason for competition. So much less pressure! :)

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

the preservatives and other chemicals in food, they have the potential to be cancer causing. should we not eat?

You're right. I think the food is a cause for a lot of modern world diseases. Diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular, cancer...they are all linked to food. Cigarettes are just the last nail on the coffin :(

But, we have to eat and we don't have to smoke.

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

I don't see anything wrong with baning smoking at the restaurants, official buildings, any public places. However, it is silly to ban it even in the taverns. That's what people are going there for, to drink and to smoke. I say - let them. I don't have to be there. There is no smoking in Chicago for a couple of years already and the cigarettes, I think are over $7.00... smoking is a 'luxury' nowadays...and a waste of money.

But, Tobacco companies are still doing well in China, Russia and Europe.
