UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

The OPs post speaks of Britain this, and Britain that.
The picture in Scotland is the opposite of Britain as a whole.
Should the term "England" not be used instead ?
The two terms seem interchangeable in other threads.

History / Is anything but Polish history taught in Polish schools? [50]

batallion then?

Fifth Army, 20th Batallion - prove me wrong !

If you can let me know of a website where the Chinese administration have published details of their armies activities in the Second Indochina War I would be very grateful.

feck silly English word,

Feck is a silly word, even when used in the correct context.

Edit - forgot to mention the Paracel Islands which the Chinese nicked from the Vietnamese in 1974.

was it beneficial to the colonies or to the Brits?

To my knowledge Scotland has only ever had one colony and that was on the Darien peninsula near Panama.
On false promises Scotland invested almost a fifth of its wealth on the venture. Darien was little more than a swamp, the settlers soon died of disease in their hundreds. Investors were broke.

England then offered bribes to influential nobility and offered compensation to investors if they were to sign up to the Act of Union. So, in 1707 a handful of traitors sold Scotland.

We were bought and sold for English Gold,
Sic a Parcel of Rogues in a Nation.

So, back to the question, were colonies beneficial to the Brits ?
The Brits would not have existed without Darien.

Feedback / The "Poland Polls" feature has been released [18]

Can the poll be part of a thread or does it have to be its own entity?

Edit - I have just seen the threads relating to the polls - just ignore me.

UK, Ireland / More Polish workers leaving the Isles [28]

Experts stress that no precise data on Poles' migration levels are available............... Figures from the UK's Worker Registration Scheme (WRS) show that a mere 38,000 Poles registered in the system in the third quarter 2007, the lowest number by far since May 2004

Could it be that more are settling here and so do not need to register with the WRS ?

I do have a job and I do pay tax.

UK, Ireland / 90,000 Scottish Immigrants in Poland! [67]

Of course they are the good guys - they tended to be taller and fairer than the Scots.

They paint themselves blue, and that's the colour of Rangers Football Club.

You have been in Glasgow too long Bart, you should go north young man - sample the real Scotland !

UK, Ireland / Do Polish immigrants wish to stay in UK - long term? [92]

Are the highlands further up north

North of Perth, kinda in the middle if you look at a map.

Does it snow there

As I look out the window....from about 300m up there is snow.

Pictish (whatever that means)

Painted people - a lot of "celtic" designs are actually Pictish. I would say I am more of a Pict than a Scot. Due to looks and geography.

Life / Cultural readjustment... returning to Poland from the West. [58]

Its a bit off topic but.....taking this to the extremes I was reminded of this......

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_Bradford

went blind at 10 months of age but regained sight on both eyes after a cornea transplant at the age of 52.

Life / Children's clothing in Poland? [14]

I asked the sklepowka in the Diesel shop on the Rynek Główny in Krakow if they sold childrens clothes. They said they didn't because not a lot of people could afford them. I doubt that, as there seems to be a lot of "new" money around.

Designer clothes for children, what a waste of money !
