Life / "K*rwa"-why do young Poles find this word so cool ? [67]

Some Polish people who refuse to say the K word have taken to using the F word as it means nothing to them. It makes me cringe when I walk down the street and hear the F word coming from Polish mouths but those same people refuse to say K. When I hear it now I say K just to make them stare

Life / Polish people more caring? [20]

Really Kasia I have never seen this Poland you talk of. In the place where I live, ppl would rather call the police to ask someone to turn down their stereo than do it themselves.

Poles walk past trouble with their heads to the floor. Its not their problem so why should they interfere. The Poles in the UK are even worse. Yes they will help their own knid to a certain extent but altruism is not really a quality i have seen among many Poles.

Love / CULTURAL DIFFERENCE/PROBLEMS IN MIXED POLISH-UK MARRIAGES [34]

I have bitten my tongue so far for the sake of my child. She is a Polish lady and I have put up with alot of her high and mighty shite and her mother's interfering but its difficult as I'm in her world. All her friends are the same, the treat their husbands like complete pantoflarz and none of them have a significant role to play in their children's lives apart from getting up in the night when the baby cries.

I have threatened that I'm gonna move back to UK if this keeps on but she knows she's got me cos I cant just take my son.

Language / SŁUCHAĆ, or PRZYSŁUCHIWAĆ SIĘ? [53]

This is very strange. I was never asked to teach antother language other than English for my CELTA, although i could have taught them Welsh. Its like the blind leading the blind really, and pointless. Where are u doing ur CELTA?

Love / CULTURAL DIFFERENCE/PROBLEMS IN MIXED POLISH-UK MARRIAGES [34]

I know the theory behind it and how many hours a day should be dedicated to which lang etc.

Thanks for the offer though.

My problem is that teh wife does not like me spaeking welsh to the child and if she hears him say anything in Welsh she goes mad. She seems to think it'll confuse him knowing 3 languages and she doesnt want him to be able to have private conversations with me and my mum.

I am also not allowed to speak Eng to him when mother in law is present, which is my biggest problem cos shes too present

aqlso, i dont know if anyone else on this forum has experienced this, but Polish parents are extremely protective of their kids, too over protective. My wife tries but I put my foot down. I know of Polish parents who rush the baby to casualty at the first sign of a cough.

Last week the boy fell over and cut his knee, I put a plaster on there and told him to go back out to play. His mum would have called the doctor to check it out and would have banned him from going outside

Love / CULTURAL DIFFERENCE/PROBLEMS IN MIXED POLISH-UK MARRIAGES [34]

Yep P3 u have a point, when u marry a Polish girl u marry all her baggage ie mother in law. I feel that my child doesnt have a mother and father, he has a mother and grandmother. The mother in law doesnt speak a word of Polish and I have been told Im not allowed to speak to my child in English in front of her cos she doesnt know what i'm saying. I have told my wife that unless I have more of a say in my child's future I will start restricting the time he spends with grandma.

As for speaking Welsh to my child, i am constantly at war with the other hlf about this

Love / CULTURAL DIFFERENCE/PROBLEMS IN MIXED POLISH-UK MARRIAGES [34]

What about Polish-Welsh? I have a problem with my wife, cos she doesnt like me speaking welsh to my parents when we go home for a visit, probably cos she doesnt understand.

Also there is the same prob with all Polish-British marriages that any social life you may have had before the marriage comes to an end

Travel / Now Gdansk is tipped as a hot spot for 2009 [24]

i can never compare gdansk to london. like the houses have this concrete finish and left unpainted

Antother foriegner who has seen one area of London and thinks it is typical. Suppose you think that the UK has no lakes, mountains or greenery. Believe me some of the architecture in London is unrivalled. Please get off ur pretty a*** and take a look

What about some of the areas in gdansk where the buildings are grey and drab? The commie tower blocks in gdansk are a depressing sight

Life / What are your favourite Polish Radio stations...? [27]

Oh why oh why would Brits in Britain, Americans in America and Canadians in Canada want to listen to Polish radio, especially the ones who speak no or a little Polish. I live here and never listen to the radio cos its crap. It is extremely repeptitive and has no comedy such as chris Moyles etc.

UK, Ireland / Polish Beer in Ireland! [13]

I was in my home town for a visit around a month ago, in wethersppons and I asked for a bottle of zywiec, the barmaid didnt know what the hell I was on about as she'd never heard it pronounced properly before. With a sufficient amount of pointing she finally clicked.

Life / Would you intervene in a mugging on a street in Poland? [16]

I intervened a couple of months ago when I saw a bloke hitting a woman across the face with the buckle of his belt. Normally if it was 2 guys I'd just let them slug it out but this was unacceptable.

I asked the guy what he was doing and he told me to stay out of it and was shouting at the woman. When he saw I wouldnt leave he stormed off and I took the lady to hospital in my car.

I have noticed in this country though the general attitude is to ignore trouble, put ur head down and walk straight past. In the block where I live, we had a noisy neigbour upstairs. Instead of first asking this person to be quiet people would call straz miejska form the comfort of their armchair. It wasnt really working so I went to see him and he tanked me that someone had finnally asked him nicely, I was the first 1.

Law / Polish business invoices: do they still need to be stamped and signed? [10]

I have just discovered thet according to accounting law here, invoices no longer need to be stamped and signed, It is sufficient just to send them by email. My accountant arued that this is wrong and all invoices should be signed and stamped.

Is there anyone here who can clarify this for me as it would make my life much easier if I didnt have to sign these things any more.

Life / Wedding Reception Venues in Gdansk [17]

I am an authority on this since my company czekoladowyraj.com has been to all the major wedding venues in gdansk. It depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for a hotel type venue then the Nadmorski in Gdynia or oberzje pod lipami in gdansk are pretty good.

If ur looking for the traditional countryside venue, I recommend rozewie in Puck or magnat in Gdansk.

Then there are the typical restaurant type venues.

If u want to know more email me.

Law / Buying, Registering, Insuring a NEW Car in PL is a NIGHTMARE [22]

The problem doesnt lie in getting insurance, it lies in claiming when sth happens.
I had an accident where no other car was ivolved. Basically the clamp on the bonnet malfunctioned and the bottet came up and smashed the windscreen and dented the bonnet. I bought fully comp insurance for incidents liek this. I understand i could not claim the full amount for the windscreen, it says so in the policy but they are also claiming i cnat claim for the bonnet and the bump resulting from this incident cos there was no other car involved.

I worked as the manager of the claims department in Admiral insurance UK and I know that they wouldnt even try this on.

I have been to cpourt and apparently my case is being 'processed'

Damn this country

Language / Du ju spik polisz? [21]

Id like to bring attention to the misuse of the word professor in Polish also. I hear alot of kids calling their reacher at school pan/pani professor. MAny of the older primary/secondary school teachers insist on their pupils calling them it. Talk about making urself out to be more important than u really are.

UK, Ireland / POLISH SUICIDES IN THE UK [21]

I think many are in debt to ordinary High Street banks, that they probably thought wouldn't screw them over.

Alot cant get loans from banks so they go to the loan sharks as they ask no questions. They dont relaise that these guys will hound them relentlessly until they get their money back

UK, Ireland / POLISH SUICIDES IN THE UK [21]

The way we, the British, "help" people is so ass-about-face at times.

Another one with a negative view of UK. Firstly, as said above, how can this person be helped if noone knows anything is wrong. Secondly, to commit suicide someone must be at their witts end, no amount of help would have stopped him.

Thirdly, there was always the option of returning back to Poland.

I heard that alot of these suicide cases amongst Poles and other ethnic minorities is that they get into debts with loan sharks and cant pay it back. Suicide is the easiest way out

Work / How much Poles earn compared to foreigners! [29]

My wife is the Director of the North of Poland for a German shippig company and she tells me that French and German companies dont trust Poles to be top Drectors. Her boss who is the director for Poland is German, the bord of Directors for Poland of TPSA are all French, The directors for Poland of the shipping companies are Danish, German etc. Thez have to pay these people more then they would pay a Pole to get them to stay here.

Life / Bloody Priests in Poland... [58]

It seems to me that the catholic church has lost its way. They have misinterpreted the message of Christ and become a church stooped in arcahic tradition and have lost all sense of the Salvation Christ talked about in the Bible.

Jesus said:
I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes the the father except THROUGH ME (John 14:6)
This means that we do not need a priest to act as a mediator between ourselves and God, we can get on our knees ourselves and pray humbly to him. We do not need a priest to do it for us.

Also, I hate the way that I am told I am not allowed to partake of the mass in Poland because Iam not Catholic. Can someone tell me where Christ ever said this?

I am also pissed off with the falseness I see in the Catholic church. I see children partaking of the mass without actually understanding what they are partaking of, id be surprised if most adults know too.

In UK if you are not Religious, you dont go to church simple

UK, Ireland / Something to take to Poland from UK to sell... [47]

The fags issue I explored. I used to go home every summer with 2 suitcases full of fags by bus and the driver would chuck them under the bus and noone was any the wiser. 3 yrs ago 200 fags cost 15 quid here and I could sell them back home for 35 easily, in fact they were biting my hand off for them. I even bought myself a high viz and helmet so i could sell them on a building site. The music festivals are a good market too.

Now its not worth my while as a box of 200 Benson and hedges is retailing at around 100 zl and with the fall of the pound it would barely cover the bus fare.

Give it a go, the local factory workers will love you
