Are there any jobs for Americans in Poland?

Will you get a work permit at all?

I am Polish which makes the opportunity to go live in Poland even more enticing

Rather than trying to find a job before you arrive (the first work permit cannot be issued in Poland, a company that wants to hire you applies for you) you might be able to apply for residency on the basis of being Polish (assuming you can back that up) it used to be super easy for those that could prove Polish ancestry.

Unfortunately the person that knew about that disappeared from the forum.....

I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions at all.

My suggestion would be to take a couple weeks vacation over there and see if you like it first before you pack it up and go.

There aren't as many things to do in Poland and you probably will become bored after a few months.

And you will find out all of the daily luxuries we take for granted in the US aren't available in Poland.

The pay scale will be much lower and the cost of living is higher, but you have good credentials. Still the pay in the USA dwarfs Poland.

Find someone that immigrated from Poland and ask them if they are planning on moving back? Be careful, some become angry:)

I love Poland! Its a nice place to visit:)

A very good idea, Katowice is a modern city with a very high quality of life for Poland where unemployment is practically non-existent. Nevertheless, Katowice cannot be compared to the highly developed regions of the USA. I think so.

Maggie, will your boyfriend play for GKS Katowice? If so, you don't have to work in Poland and you'll be fine anyway. You will be able to be socially active and remember that Americans are very popular in Poland. Good luck.

I would be looking at an extended stay first. A couple of weeks vacation is exactly that. Living somewhere is very different to being on holiday and seeing the sights etc

yes, it generally takes about a year to figure out how a place functions (and understanding that is crucial to thriving in Poland)....

Maggie

Hi Maggie, I think you will really like Poland, especially since you have Polish ancestry. Poland is safer and nearly as prosperous as Canada and way better than the great satan. There are many ways to learn Polish and the government would encourage you and expat groups who will be learning polish as well. As a gf of a hockey player I have a feeling people will be offering you work to support their hockey club.

Btw there is a user here PolAmKrakow who is heavily involved in the hockey 'industry' and I'm sure you will bump into him in real life.

daily luxuries we take for granted in the US aren't available in Poland.

Like Philly cheese steak sandwiches? How about the daily luxury of not being sorounded by meth and fentanyl junkie white trash?

How exactly would the government encourage her?

I'm curious ; what would those be?

They have free language classes for migrants, well let's add NGO's to what i mean by the goverment.

Those language classes are really aimed at refugees, asylum seekers etc. There are limited places so she'd be better off going to a local language school and paying for a course in basic Polish to get started.

High pollution levels sadly.

Yes, though I'd add that different ways suit different people. Important is not to worry about making mistakes and most important to ignore what Poles say about learning their language.

Did you move to Poland and find a job?

We were covered in snow again. Today I would gladly hire an American to clear snow. But it looks like I'll have to do it myself.

Try a Muslim migrant. They just sit there doing nothing...

Oops...except making lots of babies to outpopulate the natives...

Are you a German?

Try a Muslim migrant

Can you imagine Africans shoveling snow in front of my house?
