Our Pani Irena is working at our home since many years. We are paying her 150 PLN for a day's work (around 9 hours). We were thinking to give her a raise. How much would be acceptable? As I know 15 PLN per hour is the norm in Warsaw.
How much to pay a housekeeper in Warsaw?

If you went up to 200PLN, that would be fair and decent, I think?
20PLN an hour is what I know some people are paying in Poznan for someone decent and reliable.

I pay mine 150 from 8 til 2. --three hours less. 200 pln is pretty great for 8 hours of work. I would up it to 200 pln- that is a good amount for one day.

Mine gets 80zl for work that takes about four hours (and hasn't had a pay raise in three years, I think I'd better speak to her about that). In your shoes, I'd be thinking more like 200zl than 180; she'd appreciate the 20zl much more than you'd miss it.
Actually we were also thinking of 200 PLN.
Guys, that is fascinating. I recall my parents who shared their memories with us, kids. They used to have a housekeeper in 1960s who did some chores in our home. She was a crude girl from Krakow`s countryside, it was fashionable among Krakow intelligentsia to have one then.
I listened to those stories as if they had been about the iron wolf. *
Today, I would never think of hiring a maid like that for us. I would be simply ashamed to let her/him clean up our mess/dirt.
Am I too conservative now?
Sorry.
*Presumably, the legend is also the source of the Polish phrase "bajka o żelaznym wilku" ("a fairy tale about an iron wolf"), meaning "a cock-and-bull story".

When I had a Polish maid in Manhattan, she was quite satisfied with $3 per hour. They're very cheap and good cleaners.
When was that? 1950?
I am not embarrassed. Mine is Ukrainian and she is paying her way through school. I want to help her. We pay her well but she also does the work- I am not giving her money- she is working for it. There is the lesson. And when you are poorly education you don't have a lot of options- there is nothing wrong with having a cleaning lady.
3 dollars an hour??? that is disgusting and you should be embarrassed.

From a perspective of a person, who as a student, had to rely on oneself and had to find an extra source of finance, , this kind of work was the last resort and I am happy that at that time there were people who needed cleaning lady, as for me it was a help in difficult situation. Both sides benefits here. Sometimes, even among my family and firiends there were opinions that those who hire cleaning lady could do those work by themselves and are lazy.. I always explained them, that thanks to those people, people in troubles, as I was, could earn some money. Of corse there are some pros and cons and sometimes people who hire cleaning ladies look down on them, which is sad, but there are as well decent people, who respect people who who work for them, and don't use the fact, that a person who does this work is determined to work and can be paid low, they treat her respectively.

If you appreciate her work, why not pay for her medicover or ZUS as most of the cleaners work for cash and have no cover.

Aniaa, it has absolutely nothing to do with being lazy, if both adult family members hold down full time jobs or run a business, then having home help is a great assistance to many families. Most nannies or home help become extended members of the family. Home assistants do a wonderful job and should be rewarded accordingly.
Warszawski, if you are to quote somebody, please do it properly without changing the idea of what somebody wanted to say. What I wrote was:
It's not my opinon that those who want their domestic work have done by others are lazy, just in contrary. I had met some famlies who hired housekkeper/cleaning lady and I am aware what the pace of life they have, other duities etc and if they can afford hiring some help, that's great. I am not the one, who you are explained to why they hire cleaning lady e.g.

well, I am lazy and I hate cleaning.

Yes, of course, quite plausible.
I only meant I would be embarassed to let a maid into my toilet, for example, especially if she was a young pretty lady like you. :):):):)

If i paid a Housekeeper 1600zl a month for 80hrs work, any idea how much ZUS would be?
I have never heard somebody paying such kind of work officially.
No, this is now, this is what illegal immigrants get working as maids and housekeeping..

That graph shows the estimated number of illegal immigrants, not the wages they get.
Please try harder.

We moved to Warsaw two months ago with our kids. Unfortunately we haven't succeeded to find a housekeeper. We registered as a premium member on pomocedomowe.pl to find housekeepers. One lady that speaks basic English promised to come today but did not show up (and she even refused to reply to my phone calls!). Another one asked which country we come from and increased her rates from 20 pln/hour (written on her profile) to 40pln/hour!
Can anybody suggest a reliable housekeeper? The person does not need to speak English, we use Google translation.
How to find a reliable housekeeper in Warsaw (non English speakers are fine)?
