Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I've always thought it takes a lot of experience with another person (both good and bad) to be able to call him/her a friend... I doubt it's possible to call each other a friend if you haven't known for a few months at least.

Is it true the Gorals live on the South Side and the Poles from Eastern Poland and Galicia live on the West Side/Northwest Side and the rest live on the Northside?

You're pretty much correct, but it changes now and all kinds of Poles live in all parts of the city.
