Bieszczady: Ustrzyki Górne to/from peak of Tarnica in a day? How intense?

Hello!

I'm going to be visiting Podkarpackie in August and I'm thinking about arriving at and staying at the PTTK in Ustrzyki Górne in the evening and walking/hiking to the peak of Tarnica the next day - but as I won't have a car, I'd like to be able to get a bus out of town later in the day, perhaps to Rzeszów or Przemyśl.

Various estimates online seem to say it's about 3 hours up and 2.5 hours down. Any idea if this is accurate?

Additionally, I don't have any serious hiking gear. How intense is the trail? Would I need, say, hiking poles? Full boots? I'm a novice hiker and wouldn't want to ruin my vacation.

Dziękuję!

Matt

The trail is very easy. Probably you would manage to do it in 6 hours as written in guides.
It is just a path - nothing very steep.

However if you have higher boots it is advisable to wear them because especially while coming down it is easy to twist an ankle on slippy rocks or mud.

Kind regards

How intense is the trail?

Very intense. The open terrain of the steep climb close to the top makes you feel like in a frying pan when the weather is hot and sunny.

Think of climbing it when overcast. The views are still amasing.

@pawian

Nice pics, but not exceptional.
I have been to places in Europe and even in England, which were just as amazing.

This forum is about Poland - it doesn't have to be "exceptional" - it's enough that it's located in Poland :))

Songs about Bieszczady Mountains.

By my fave KSU group

Mountains up to the sky
And green screams
A dirt road among flowers
And a broken cross

A stream hidden in darkness
And a wild orchard
An old church under a larch
And a cracked bell

Overgrown cemetery
With wild lilacs On it
How many tears and how much harm
How much human blood

The moon over Otryt
The sky is full of stars
The gray dormice are dancing
The San is putting us to sleep

Why such grim verses in such ear catching ballad???

Bieszczady was the scene of Polish Ukrainian conflict. Ukrainian nationalists tried to incorporate the region into independent Ukrainian state after WW2. There were fights, skirmishes, massacres etc. Today the region belongs to Poland.
