The agreement in Alaska between the US and Russia has implications for Ukraine and broader relations. What are your thoughts on the agreement reached by Putin and Trump?

No thoughts until we see a document.

Trump became Putin's little helper.
I understand that he lacks political experience and probably never considered politics before being elected president. He should have listened to the experienced people around him; it's frustrating to see him making a fool of himself.

On the other hand, at least he is candid about the impotence and shamelessness of the US. I believe that playing a bluff would be more strategic, as it is in the interest of the US to maintain that facade for as long as possible. Still, honesty in politics is a rare quality.

As for a more detailed and in-depth comment, I will withhold my opinion till we see a document.

Now Russians are making fun of American Army...

:)

he :)

... that's another thing that I don't get - couldn't Trump send some illegal Mexicans to roll out the red carpet for Putin? Did he really have to humiliate the US Army?

It was obvious that Russia would use anything to boost its morale and address its feelings of inferiority. Well, we know Russia, and we wouldn't give them even such lowborn satisfaction. However, Americans do not see it this way. They don't really care. In fact, it's a case of being so great that we are elevated above the rest, while their attitude is probably lost on most Russians.

They don't really care.

So why the meeting? Why the talks? Why the red carpet?

Trump achieved nothing in Alaska.

Cms is right - Ukraine can surrender on their own, they don't need Trump for that.

to roll out the red carpet for Putin?

Probably vengeance for his lil parade, that guy is a very petty small minded person. Imagine Jarosław being son of a millionaire, younger and far more attached to formalities and outward appearance -> Trump

So why the meeting?

I mean, they don't care what Russians make out of those pictures of the US soldiers.

Why the talks?

To keep up appearances.

younger

Kaczyński is 76, Trump is 79.

That's the problem - Trump is too old. 10 years ago he was much smarter...

They don't care about the image of America abroad (not only in Russia)? That's not very sensible.

To keep up appearances.

But you just said they don't care about appearances. You confuse me today, Iron.

Dude, we are great, everybody is jealous of us, we are living in the greatest country in the world, outside America, they are living in mud huts.

But you just said they don't care about appearances.

Depends on who we are talking about? Average people or ruling elites in the government..
For elites, what Russians make of those pictures of soldiers is just a trivial and unimpressive detail that doesn't influence the image of the US.

Meeting with Putin is the US pretending to deal cards as the world's dominant power.

Meeting with Putin is the US pretending to deal cards as the world's dominant power.

'Pretending' being the key word here.

Ah, well, it looks like counting on the USA in 2025 is a bit like counting on France and Britain in 1939.

Hmm... no, I take it back. That's insulting for France and Britain - at least they declared war on Hitler, not spread out red carpet for him.

not spread out red carpet for him.

You forgot about Chamberlain.

That was before proper war started. No... wait a minute...

The agreement

What 'agreement'?

They had a talk there with only one of the two parties present and nothing was achieved.

Q: what's the difference between Putin and Trump?

A: Putin is a Russian DICtator,
Trump is a Russian DICktaster.

No thoughts until we see a document.

Exactly!

Besides, I don't think it was about coming up with something final; rather, it was to see if a path to negotiating an end to the war was open. Trump and Putin seem to think so. Today, we'll see what Ukraine and Europe think.

Let's stick to facts: Trump said there will be sanctions on Russia if no cease fire is agreed. There is no cease fire. There are no sanctions on Russia. Trump says it was a great meeting - 10 out of 10.

The path for Ukraine to capitulate and give up their lands and aim to join NATO is always open. All they have to do is surrender. But they don't need Trump for that.

Trump is a Russian DICktaster.

Somebody would have to have very low standards to allow a slimeball like Trup taste theirs.

very low standards

This is not even funny anymore.

I never thought I would say that but the day when Europe and America will have to go their separate ways is fast approaching. For common decency's sake.

On the bright side Golden Cow arranged an epic fly past by a B52 at the cost of several million bucks. An awesome show of strength before getting on his knees before Putler

Sadly yes.

They botched Vietnam (which, thank God, Harold Wilson kept us out of, even at the cost of Nixon dumping currency reserves and trashing Sterling), they botched Iraq (and sucked both the U.K. and Poland into that debacle, killing some of our people in "friendly fire" incidents due to the US army's poor standards of training), botched Afghanistan at the cost of many lives and are now making a complete mess of their attempts to end the invasion of Ukraine, a country whose borders they promised to protect.

getting on his knees before Putler

It's hard to believe that the orange person is so bizarrely incompetent. His rambling speeches suggest declining and declined mental capacity and his alleged aim of getting a Nobel Peace Prize is laughable.

I'm afraid that the only sanctions that will happen will be sanctions on Norway if Trump is not given Nobel Peace Prize...
