Saying "Poland won" is not only a lie but a sick lie that deprives the actual winners of the recognition that is due them for their efforts and the win.

Not fair. Just lazy and dishonest.

Poland sadly out in the semi-finals of Greco-Roman Wrestling 97kg. He did well to get that far though.

Looks like Poland has a new sprinter!

Reminds me about the worst Cold War days....with GDR athletes defecting to the West when they could....Belarus must really suck by now!

Not fair. Just lazy and dishonest.

Not necessarily! In Germany talented athletes can get financial (etc.) help from the state...and that is financed through us tax payers....so...

Or they can go to the Bundeswehr....pro forma only of course...through that scheme they have a "job", are housed, fed and clothed, get paid ...but can train as much as they want...totally officially! Our army has a special unit for them...it would be tan achievement of all of us in the end! Of them and us as their supporter... :)

Krystsina Tsimanouskaya got granted a humanitarian visa,

Good for her!

with GDR athletes defecting to the West when they could.

Didn't a gymnast once leap over airport barriers? Or was that USSR? edit. I was thinking of Nureyev.

Krystsina Tsimanouskaya got granted a humanitarian visa

About a half dozen countries have offered her asylum by now.... is there any particular indication she'll chose Poland? It would be nice if she did (as long as her plane doesn't cross Belarusian airspace....).

@amiga500
Good for her, she might have been threatened severely as a means to perform better. Most likely they overdid it, so now she is too scared to go back to Belarus is my guess

Polish players refused to kneel, they said Poles only kneel before God. Also Polish Ultras sent a message to their players that if they kneel they may as well not return to Poland.

Its true, you should only kneel before God. Good for Poland, the rest of the world should use them as an example!

hey may as well not return to Poland.

Man, I wish Trump were still Prez, he would do the same.

One more reason to love Poland like I do.

3 golds now.

So Poland has one tenth the population to choose athletes from compare to the U.S. who has ten times as many to choose from then technically Poland leads the U.S. in total gold medals with 30 compared to the U.S.A.'s 25. :-/

Poland - 3, US - 25.
That's "gold". Total:
Poland - 10, US - 79
Populations:
Poland - 38M, US - 330M
Ratios: all the same.

Aus and NZ are certainly exceptions to that, as is the UK.

It was a great day for Anita Wlodarczyk, the first female athlete to win three separate gold medals at three Olympic Games.

A quote from WSJ:

Still banned from competing under their own flag or anthem, athletes of the Russian Olympic Committee are sweeping up medals beyond even their own expectations.

I couldn't be happier for them...

Of course....

the first female athlete to win three separate gold medals at three Olympic Games

Sonia Henie (and Irina Rodnina) might like to have a talk with you about that....

It should of course be the first female Polish olympian. Still a pretty good achievement.

Excellent showing from Poland !
TOKYO - At first, it appeared to be just a fun hypothetical: What if Team USA put four of its biggest stars on the women's 4x400 relay team in Tokyo?

What if it drew from runners in three different events to make a sort of super team?
It's no real surprise what happened next.
The U.S. lineup had so much foot speed, across the board, that the rest of the teams of the field could only really fight for silver, with Poland finishing nearly four seconds behind (3:20.53) for second. Jamaica took bronze in 3:21.24.

Excellent showing from Poland !

Very!

Now the closing ceremony has happened and the caretaker's turning the lights off in the stadium, here's the final medal table. Great for Poland at 17th place (out of 86), the UK at 4th (behind three countries with far larger populations) and the USA in 1st place.

Germany came 8th. Even Crow has something to celebrate, since Serbia did OK. Almost as well as Croatia and Iran...

Given the social distancing and the rotten time generally with covid, it could all have been a damp squib. But it wasn't.

At last but not least :)

But Japan did exceptionally well for such a tiny country...with such an quite old population.. :)

such a tiny country

They've 125 million people so not as tiny as (6th place) Australia, with 25 million. However yes, an ageing population (like your country and mine) although they're evidently managing that very well.

Cuba (11 million) and New Zealand (5 million) both got in the top 20 which is pretty good. They must both be doing something right.

For Germany it was the worst Olympics result EVER.....but here everybody knows why....the Germans have lost interest (mostly).....also it isn't financially very profitable compared to other (more successful) countries.

Beside football there is not much reason for young people to invest so much time and sweat!

I would expect more and more immigrants to take to the podium for Germany, they still have dreams and wishes...

For Germany it was the worst Olympics result EVER

Not so good, but still in the top ten. The UK had its worst result in Atlanta 1996 and because of that, the country invested millions into revamping sports training. It worked, and if we can do it, I'm sure Germany can too.

they still have dreams and wishes...

So do you. Never give them up.

No illegal scum invading their little islands and draining the resources away from sports.
