What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus?

None of the people convicted there were immigrants.

Bullsh*t, there was million+ paki immigrants that were set to be deported, that got a fake refugee pass under the idealistic and former marxist blair minister barbara roche. Yes they got a english passport under a fake refugee classification under tony blair. Unless you were saying they were the rapist sons of the migrants that came in the 70s and that's fine, well that does wonders for the mass media and notesfrompoland claims of migrant integration and it's all fine kumbaya, they will be euro sweet like us.

incompetent Polish regime's

Vast majority of poles support and believe the government is doing a competent job. enjoy being the 10 percent, who the poles hate yelling and screaming about it, but you are helping PiS get relelected by your rightous outrage. , no matter how much you try and hide it on PF, more protests please! free the refugees! thank you.

Bullsh*t, there was million+ ... immigrants

In a town of 100,000?

Vast majority of poles support and believe the government is doing a competent job

Really? The current crisis is not about Poland; however much Putin is exploiting Poland's current weakness.

The events of this week will be key to it all.

Interestingly, the EU has just (minutes ago) imposed yet more sanctions on Belarus and several Belarussian individuals. This will likely only exacerbate the situation.

39% think they are doing a competent job at the border according to the latest survey.

As has happened more than once, the human traffickers (aka modern slavers) are faster and more nimble than the slow and reactive EU.

Supposedly Lukashenka's new human ammo will be Afghans through Tajikistan....

the source isn't the best (tabloidy thing but.... alarming if true)

As immigrants Afghans are at the bottom of the barrel* (more or less tied with Somalis). Poor at integration, education and general life in a secular society and high in clannishness and crime.

*per a Dutch governmnet report on the net financial impact of migrants, Afghans and Somalis represent the biggest financial loss to any country unlucky enough to take them in...

pollster/thinktank

So a poll. Whether you personally agree or disagree.

your clique

What clique?

There's little point in your trying to distract from the wider Putin/Lukashenka issue, especially as the EU have met (and potential worsened the situation) and that very big events are expected today. It will be a hard test for the Polish officials at the border, one that all of us in Poland hope they will pass.

It'll be interesting what the arrested journalists will report about their experiences in Polish custody, however I expect that will be buried by today's events which according to the radio are starting already.

@amiga500

The PJ Harvey song? Not a bad one if you like her stuff. Her take in the final verse on the effects of the Afghan war (which we'll see more of in terms of refugees) is very poignant.

Meanwhile, it's escalating at the Belarus/Poland border as we read this. I've a feeling that by the end of this week, things will be very different. What Putin and his puppet do next is key to it all.

Just a PJ Harvey song?! blasphemy! you have no idea if she was talking about afgha , and yes she is one of my favs . end of the week will be more like 1-2 months till they can get 40k on the border and give the veterans weapons. be patient

What clique?

You know the exact clique. the warsaw gay upper middle class clique..

I found this to be an interesting blurp:
Though concerns have been raised that the presence of NATO troops could increase around the Polish, Latvian and Lithuanian borders in light of the weekend's breach, Rosenberg argued that the information coming from the Polish government had to be taken "with a pinch of salt."

"EU forces are not allowed to investigate the situation over there and the Polish government is benefiting from a rallying cry against the migrant threat for domestic political purposes."

You know the exact clique.

Not personally. the warsaw gay upper middle class clique..

However that's off the topic of today's events. This is worth a look. If you don't follow Tadeusz Giczan on Twitter, I recommend his feed:

On a side note, The NBP are issuing new collectors' coins and banknotes dedicated to "THE DEFENCE OF POLAND'S EASTERN BORDER."

That will doubtless make all the difference. They can pretend the queues outside banks are there to get the commemorative currency.

Afghan war (which we'll see more of in terms of refugees)

Afghans... they can't run their own country and they won't let anyone more competent do it instead (and then run when they get exactly what they fought for and demand that strangers feed them).....

Afghans... they can't run their own country

Since that's far from new and the world's great powers can't sort it despite centuries of trying, you may as well grumble endlessly on the internet instead, why not?

Here's the latest image from the Kuznica-Bruzgi border crossing. Apparently the refugees are being peaceful and the Belarussians don't like that. I hope they don't provoke something.

you may as well grumble endlessly

Letting a bunch of Afghans into your country is a terrible, awful mistake.... has any country that's let in a bunch of Afghans been happy about the result?

the refugees are being peaceful and the Belarussians don't like that

They are not refugees in any traditional or legal sense. Like many who get sucked into the human trafficking industry (aka modern slave trade) they are looking for a better situation and have fallen for smooth lies by recruiters about an easy life in Germany.... regrettable but Europe is in no way responsible for their fecklessness.

Yes, you've told us already what you think.

they are looking for a better situatio

Indeed, however as you know, they are pawns being cruelly used by Putin and his puppet Lukashenka. And yes, I've said that before here too.

Meanwhile, crowds are massing at the border and the Belarussians are up to something.

Mostly a safe region. safer than most US conurbations of comparable size. It's also one with a very strong community spirit, a port city which is multicultural for centuries (and had Britain's first mosque in 1889); very little fazes them. And migration isn't going to stop, no matter how much you grumble about the refugees themselves and their cultures/religions.

That, however is also off-topic.

This picture (taken last week) is the Belarus-Lithuania border. They seem to be dealing with the situation far better than Poland. Has Belarus identified a weak spot, or does Putin think the Poles may shoot first?

syria.

Are you seriously saying Syria is safe? I'll not bother posting pics. Worth reading up on their neighbour/adjunct Lebanon right now. A friend is very recently back from Beirut and was appalled at how its deteriorated. We'll be seeing people leaving there too, if they aren't already.

i'll prob have more chance getting a glasgow kiss in liverpool than damascus..

Wink at a girl in Erbil or Suleymaniyah if her brothers are around should you wish to see what Iraqi hospitals are like. BTW, we call it a Liverpool Kiss too. Rough and ready, but very dependable people, including taxi drivers.

Are you seriously saying Syria is safe?

The US military has been grossly undercounting the numbers of civilians killed in its airstrikes and lying about it to Congress, that special ops forces in Syria have been consistently ordering airstrikes which kill noncombatants with no accountability by exploiting loopholes to get around rules meant to protect civilians.

Lukashenko today said that Belarus was working to repatriate the migrants that have amassed on its border with Poland, appearing to move to defuse the crisis ahead of an EU meeting over new sanctions on Minsk.

Liverpool today?

Mostly a safe region. safer than most US conurbations of comparable size.

I haven't heard of any terrorists bombs going off in the US lately, jon.
UK police have declared a blast outside a hospital in Liverpool today a terrorist incident and said they believed the explosion occurred when a man brought an improvised device into a taxi.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said Monday that the UK's terror level had been raised from "substantial" to "severe" following the explosion, PA Media reported, meaning an attack is "highly likely."

Patel noted that the blast marked Britain's second terrorist incident in a month, following the murder of lawmaker David Amess in October.
So PLEASE don't compare the UK safer than most US conurbations.

EU agrees new sanctions on Belarus, airlines over border crisis

reuters.com/world/europe/eu-step-up-sanctions-belarus-over-escalating-border-crisis-2021-11-15/

...The top EU diplomat, Josep Borrell, said the new package of sanctions would target airlines and travel agencies involved in "this illegal push of migrants".

Middle East travel agencies working together with operators in Belarus provided tourist visas to thousands of people in recent months, a Reuters investigation revealed.

EU executive said it was looking into whether other airlines should face sanctions after the bloc banned Belarus' state-owned carrier Belavia from its skies and airports. Germany's Maas stressed Turkish Airlines had stayed away.....

Well....it's a start.....

...The EU has been stepping up sanctions on Belarus for months. Curbs already in place include blacklisting of Lukashenko, his son and 165 other Belarusian officials, as well as restrictions on trade in potash, an important export....

Rumours that have been circulating among desperate migrants on the Poland/Belarus border of a safe corridor to Germany opening on Monday have been countered by the government in Warsaw.

A message, which was sent to all phones in the border area with a foreign number, read:"Poland won't let migrants pass to Germany. It will protect its border. Don't get fooled, don't try to take any action."
