I suppose those of us presently travelling outside the country are not obliged to observe electoral silence so can comment.

In reality, the Forum being in English means the authorities would care even less than they do about Polish language fora. Anyway. It's discussion, which is not banned.

You don't think Petru will make it in?

Petru or ZL, only one of them will make it through.

Petru

Although Petru is a hard-nosed Balcerovite (capitalist), he's still better than the lefty utopianists trying to stand everything on its head, opposing time-honoured traditions that have withstood the trial of generations, destroying religion and even going against nature. Those brandishing leftist banners have left history's greatest carnage in their wake -- a volume of blood and corpses unmatched by Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Salazar and all of South America's dictators combined. When will they ever learn?!

Agree, Petru is bad but not as bad as ZL, the worst party in in these elections and their leader Nowacka, listening to her is truly disturbing.

leader Nowacka

If one can rise above one's poltical preferences and impaartially assess things, I believe the ex-commies have struck a goldmine wtih Nowacka. Their Ogórek episode was a total flop but Nowacka is dynamic, charismatic and fairly convincing and that's bad because ZL mayk actually make it into the Sejm.

poltical preferences

Exit polls are soon due to be annoucned. Here is my list of likely options.
1. Only PiS and PO in the Sejm with PiS having a sufficient advantage to rule independently.
2. PiS, PO and Kukiz -- PiS is still able to rule independently without Kukiz but his votes may create a constitute a constitutional majroity. (But Kukiz being unpredictable may turn out to be a liability.)

3. PiS, PO, Kukiz and PSL -- PO have too few seats to form a coalition with PSL who do not want to be out of the Sejm for the first time since the 1950s (then as ZSL) and join in a coaltion with PiS and Kukiz.

4. PiS, PO, ZL and Kukiz get in but PO have too few votes to form a coaltion with the leftists. PiS and Kukiz join in a barely majority coalition.

5. PiS, PO, ZL, Kukiz and Petru are in -- PO with ZL and Petru could form a majority coalition but Petru refuses to join one in which the ZL is present. A weak PiS-Kukiz coalition emerges, PO and Petru join, and ZL are on their own.

6. PiS, PO, ZL, PSL, Kukiz, Petru and Korwin are in -- Petru agrees to join a coalition includign ZL and a cordon of everybody (except Kukiz and Korwin) against PiS is formed. Cabinet forming is tough and drawn out and 4 years of large-scale squabbling ensues.

**BUT LIFE BEING WHAT IT IS MAY WELL DEAL A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT HAND OF CARDS! SOON WE'LL KNOW!

It looks like PiS will be governing on its own and Kaczyński's first speech is mostly about dead people and revenge.

We'll see how long this lasts.

Terrible.

Poland will regret this nonsense. I ALWAYS vote Labour in the UK.

PIS are not Labour - and not for the working man. it's a disaster and I will obstruct their minions at every turn.

That's it: (very low) turnout 51.6% - PiS: 39.12%, PO: 23.41%, Kukiz: 9.04%, Petru: 7.12%, PSL: 5.21%. Others don't make it: ZL: 6.6% (they needed 8%), Korwin: 4.9% and Razem: 3.9% (in my opinion good performance by Razem, brand new party, most probably campaigning with a couple of groszy).

Polls were accurate.

Does anyone know if Liroy has been elected? ;)

For Poland that's actually pretty high.

In just over 28 hours Poland will be raising champagne toasts to the winners.

MY Poland will be ******* on PIS posters. We are the people who pay tax here and live here and this government will damage those who are prepared to get up in the morning and do a day's work, and those who innovate.

I am all for social reform but we all know how ****** up the state budget is, and so where is the promised increased welfare payment coming from? Not from my pocket, and that is a certainty.

Not if you live in Poland it doesn't. The most fervent PiS supporters here have never actually lived while a PiS government was in power.

PiS to have 242 MPs so I guess they don't need Kukiz or others.

I have - and it was the best time in Poland after the fall of communism if you ask me

And why would you say that gumishu? Facts please - based on the money in your pocket and opportunities?

@Maf: Poles have voted and their vote must be respected. This is called ... democracy. Instead of criticizing PiS (I don't like them but I respect Polish vote), PiS's opponents should try to understand why PO and others have lost. According to Euronews this morning, the migrant issue has hurt PO.

I can't stand PO either so NO difference to me.

You pay tax here? You don't like the fact that PiS will take your taxes? Get out of Poland then. No one asks you to stay here. It will be better if you leave. You're so full of yourself, sad to read it.

If Poles want PiS to be on top, it will be no matter what you, foreigners, say.

Poles have voted and their vote must be respected. This is called ... democracy. Instead of criticizing PiS (I don't like them but I respect Polish vote), PiS's opponents should try to understand why PO and others have lost.

InPolska, it;s nice for me to hear "I respect Polish votes" from you as a foreigner instead of mocking and critizing like others do.

@Gosc: Although I don't like PiS because too backwards in social issues but as a democrat, I do respect Polish voters' choice. Most Polish voters want to be run by PiS and that's it. This is called DEMOCRACY.

but you are a clever chap and get up in the morning. How on earth does PIS help you? I don't get it.

@Dougpol: I don't need help from Polish government (whoever they are) why do you? I just want Polish government to help Poles so their lives get easier.

Polish voters' choice

As predicted, champagne toasts are being raised to the victors across the length and breadth of Poland. PiS is the first party siince the demise of PRL in 1989 that can rule independently. Official results may alter the composition of the Sejm. Only PiS, PO and Kukiz are in for sure. Considering a 2% margin of error, PSL may end up outside on the street, but the post-commies may make it in if they achieve the 8% level. Korwin and even Razem may make it in when official results are announced. PF-ers who had had a field-day badmouthing the Kaczyńskis and PiS are free to sign up with Kopacz's daughter to leave for greener pastures abroad. Szerokiej drogi!

I see Doug is already here and crying which is nice, I can't wait for Harold and his clique to do their bit :-)

I'm a bit shocked that PO got as much as 23%, I asked so many people who they vote for and absolutely nobody was for PO, or they must have been ashamed to admit lol
Polonius3 993 | 12,357
25 Oct 2015 #865
PIS are not Labour

On the contrary, PiS = Soldiarność and are very much for the working people.
They only lack the libertine, anti-clerical and anti-patriotic stench typical of many left-scented labour parties in the West.

@Pol3: of course, if I were a Pole, I would not vote for PiS (nor PO) but as I am a democrat, I respect Polish voters' choice. It does not matter whether expats like or don't like it.

@All: Does anyone know whether Liroy got elected (in Kielce)?

Exactly! What can we expect from Harry and Jon? Criticism of Polish votes, of course! :)

Man, I voted today too. I just hope that Korwin will get to Sejm also. It's very possible.

So besides PiS, PO and Kukiz for sure, we don't know about the others to make it in Sejm?

@Gosc: since we don't have your id ;), can you tell us whom have you voted for? I read that JKM was a fan of .... Hitler .... True?

As predicted, champagne toasts are being raised to the victors across the length and breadth of Poland.

You haven't got a clue have you Polonius. This a sad day for Poland and we all know what stupidity is going to follow:

Lack of investment

Poland's standing and business reputation

Undue harrassment

Hatred of women's rights

Unfair taxes

Xenophobia

Religion and all that "patriotic" nonsense

Subsidies for coal - when a real government would care about Silesia, and blitz the whole "kamienice" area, and rebuild.

That is just for starters, from an ignoramus like myself.

Admittedly the last point (Silesia) is close to my heart, and successive Polish governments are too scared to fight the locals' misconception that the old German working class buildings are to be preserved.

BUT: Let's have a list folks of what you want PIS to do. They are now the government! It's now down to them - after the suitable honeymoon period.

Man if he won't make it I'll kind of regret voting for Kukiz instead of him...

So besides PiS, PO and Kukiz for sure, we don't know about the others to make it in Sejm?

I believe the last votes they count are the ones from abroad and Korwin has the biggest support outside of Poland just like Kukiz
