I'll try to explain what I mean - on the example of Ukraine and Russia. In both countries a lot of people hate it when somebody brings up bad news from the front, or in general questions the prevailing narrative.

Immediately you are branded a Hohol-agent, or Russian-agent - depending on where you are sitting.

People say - leave the dirty linen for when the war is over. Then we can discuss everything without jeopardizing the stability of the entire state...

But... that seems like a road to further and further f*ck ups. I think only if we are honest with ourselves about the actual state of things, can we make crucial course corrections - and in the end this will lead to a better result for all.

In America the Democrats are pretty good at closing ranks and towing the party line. The Republicans not so much - constantly having mini civil wars.

In terms of my political outlook - I was probably more a Democrat for the longer part of my life, but now find myself gravitating towards the Republicans precisely for this more "messy" level of debate within that party.

Imagine some "truth telling" member of the Russian military who says:

The officers are indifferent to the plight of the rank and file - so we don't know any longer where to turn - hence we are recording this video for Telegram."

The expected reaction for much of this war - is that some big honchos will send an order down the chain of command to identify this individual, transfer him to an "assault battalion" - and hope that he will be dead within a week.

No person - no problem. Also a valuable lesson to others who decide they want to complain publicly.
