We are not sane nations, and asking us to behave sanely is to break our fragile psyches.
I would agree if Polish history had stopped somewhere around 1683.
The partitions, however, changed us. You already know that deep inside I am a Kaiser-und-Koenig loyalist (Gefreiter Kania and all that :)) and the Prussian partition wasn't all that bad either. They didn't love Poles but at least there was law and order, and still Germans in Poznań and Bydgoszcz were rather becoming polonised than Poles germanized. You can practice your already impressive Polish by listening to this podcast...

I'm not saying we are westernized to the extent that our little Czech brothers are but we are not far from it. If it hadn't been for the retarded painter from Austria and the brief 12-year period of complete insanity by the usually quite sane Germans, you wouldn't find as many pro-Russian Poles as there are now, and there would be no Grzegorz Braun, no
Myśl Polska, and no Konfederacja. You would still find people in love with Russian culture like me but you can also find them in Italy or France.
Nazis f*cked it all up for Europe. It would be so much easier to build the "United States of Europe" now if not for the rotten past.
Keep living your little bourgeois dream of house, wife, picket fence - and pray to God Almighty that it lasts long enough that you will die before you see a change.
Do not underestimate quiet European
petit bourgeois and their little houses and picket fences. When someone tries to take it away from them, they can become quite frightful.
