When the US slaps tariff X on German cars, X is a tax on German cars payable by Germany to the US Treasury.

From this point on, Germany has two choices: Add X to their cost line or to the price a US importer will pay Germany. Or they can split it...

If X is added to the price, German cars will be less competitive. Not good. That leaves the first choice: Add X to the cost and make less. That's what I mean by eating the tariff as an extra expense.

The Kremlin fears the return of soldiers from the front, which may lead to an escalation of violence within Russia, warns Polish Eastern Studies Institute (OSW) analyst Katarzyna Chawryło.
Soldiers degraded by war "completely evade social norms and are demoralized by combat," often suffering from post-traumatic stress, which the state neither wants to address nor aspires to tackle.
