An internet cable connecting Finland to Germany and another one between Lithuania and Sweden, both running under the Baltic Sea, were cut within 24 hours of one another.
While accidental damage on undersea cables happens, these are rare events.
So, the disruption of two cables around 65 miles apart and happening nearly simultaneously is a sign of sabotage, says German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Guess who is going to get blamed for it. 😲

cables are backup only, we are way over cable for 70-80 years.

Has there ever been a war the US didn't like?

We blame the MICC but there is more to it.

My diagnosis: Americans suffer from a mental disorder known as the messiah complex best expressed in "Who if not us". Sick azholes...A nation of Karens...

trump

There's nothing that fat clown trumpet can do.

They're still important, and cutting the cables was yet another act of escalation by r*SSia.

Trump overall is your average American and he cares. He's funny and true to the American Dream, unlike the dozens/hundred of mentally ill billionaires who can't pass second grade Math class in America, the same country they claim to be living the dream in. Those are the ultimate joke and they cost virtual money, which is nothing to the real economy.

If an 'average American' is a serial rapist, a scammer and a repeated bankrupt as well as being a psychopathic felon married to a former sex worker, then perhaps.

We¡re talking about r*SSia's illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. It is likely to be a difficult six months or so.

THUGS from the Ukraine and Russia are harassing the good people of Ukraine. Hiding in tall building to ruin the economy. they get lit like matches. Jesus please stop the blues. If sad from harassment you can move anywhere in Europe and America, the more they leave the better to the people who are enjoying Ukraine despite the hardship

they are gonna have a hard winter.

Their choice. GTF out of Russia, sign a No NATO in Ukraine treaty and they will be as cozy this winter as Z.

They're resigned to that. Very tough people.

They will be around long after Putler's gone.

Yes, they do, but it doesn't matter. They could have films of Drump murdering teenage girls and then f*cking the still warm corpses and the vast majority of his supporters would either claim that it's just a deepfake or not care at all (especially as the supposed victims were 'only females' and 'not even American females').

GTF out of Russia

No problem, they can do that the same day that the orcs get out of what North Nigeria agreed in the Budapest agreement to be Ukrainian territory.

sign a No NATO in Ukraine treaty

Also no problem, provided that they can immediately disregard it in precisely the same way that North Nigeria has disregarded the Budapest agreement.

Ukraine after the war is to become a demilitarized zone. How do the russians imagine that. Who will control it?
Bobko  27 | 2142

demilitarized zone

That proposal, envisions a 30-40KM buffer zone along the current front line. Not turning the entirety of the country into a DMZ (which is actually what we want, but are unlikely to get).

A line 30-40KM wide, would mean we wouldn't be able to shell each other with artillery very effectively.

These 30-40KM would be occupied by EU soldiers, whose job would be to ensure that neither side violates the ceasefire.

After the hostilities in 2014, we had European observers sitting between us and the Ukrainians. They failed miserably at doing their job, because Ukraine continued shelling Russian controlled territories throughout the entire period of time leading up to the 2022 invasion.

On several occasions, we even caught the "observers" using their UAVs to scout our lines on behalf of the Ukrainians.

Personally, I think both sides would ignore whatever Europeans are sitting in the middle, in the same way that Israel right now ignores all the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon and just continues with its job. All those Austrians, Irish, and others are sitting scared inside their fortified bases - absolutely powerless to stop the Israelis.

because Ukraine continued shelling Russian controlled territories

...because shelling for freedom and democracy is noble. 15,000 dead Russians? Oh well ... you have to break some eggs...

I also don't understand who Europe can send that would be viewed as a credible deterrent.

Let's take a look at what Germany's Spiegel writes about the state of the German Armed Forces:

1) The commander of the 10th Tank Division reported to his superiors that during an exercise with 18 Puma infantry fighting vehicles, all 18 of them broke down.

2) The Battle Group's leadership capabilities "in association with our multinational partners are limited, primarily due to the lack of modern and interoperable radio equipment." In other words, Germany's military continues to be reliant on analog radios, communications that can be easily intercepted.

3) Of the various helicopter models belonging to the navy, just 30 percent at most were available in mid-November, as were a third of the military's ancient Tornado fighter jets and just over half of its Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Only half of the CH-53 heavy transport helicopters, also ancient, are operational. Just a shade more than half of the Bundeswehr's Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns are available, two thirds of its frigates and half of its submarines.

4) Out of the German Ground Forces' 3 divisions... one is only planned to be operational by 2026, whereas the existing 2 are judged to be only 20% capable.

Source: spiegel.de/international/germany/the-bad-news-bundeswehr-an-examination-of-the-truly-dire-state-of-germany-s-military-a-df92eaaf-e3f9-464d-99a3-ef0c27dcc797

This is the richest country in Europe, that possessed the largest Western army in Europe as recently as 1991. The size of Germany's army is the size the Ukrainians or Russians use to anchor a small village's fortifications. How the hell will they enforce a peace between Ukraine and Russia?

Do you guys understand what is written above??? Germany has two active divisions and both are at best at 20% capability.

This is the 1st Panzerdivision (based at Oldenburg), and the 10th Panzerdivision (based at Veitshöchheim).

On paper, the 1st is supposed to have 19,100 servicemen on the rosters. The 10th has a nominal strength of 12,500.

These two divisions, are somehow at 20% capability.

We should have invaded goddamn Germany instead of Ukraine. We'd be done in a week, and back in time to catch the Sunday football on TV.

Yeah....that was quite the shock.....we lived for so long in our peacy dream world with the US doing our security, with Russia delivering our cheap energy...globalization did run greatly with China buying all our stuff...you know....

Na ja....anyhow....shortly after that SPIEGEL report the budget for the Bundeswehr got stocked up mightily:

Total expenditure on defense is expected to amount to approximately 51.95 billion euros. However, investments from the one-off special fund for the Bundeswehr amounting to 100 billion euros are not taken into account.

Of course it takes abit time....a few years.....but additionally interesting could be the fact that Mr. Pistorius is talked about to supplant at last the extremely unpopular Mr. Scholz as the next leader of the SPD....as Pistorius is now acting Defense Minister and responsible for all things Bundeswehr and it's actual very costly modernization!

One could say it's to much money for the preparation for a war in Ukraine, but it's also the victory of Donald Trump in the US which makes it clear our good 'ol cheap times have ended for good.

So....maybe in 5 years or so.....we could help to do some peace-keeping in Ukraine, who knows!

You literally do not have a military.

Probably even Poland could successfully invade you.

You don't 'enforce' peace.

I suppose you'll find it amusing then that the English word "PEACEKEEPER" is translated into Russian as «Миротворец», or "PEACEMAKER".

You may be right Atch, as I'm not very knowledgeable on the mandate of the UN mission there. But then what are they doing there, if it is not to prevent a repeat of what happened in the 80s and early Aughts.
