1st wave feminism - about basic rights denied to women in many societies before feminism (owning property, being able to vote etc)
2nd wave feminism - about women having better access and fewer restrictions on things like working outside the home
These were both western ideas and the logical next step of feminism was to address enshrined misogyny in non-western cultures, but by this time post-structuralism works (like Said's 'Orientalism' had legitimized the idea that non-western cultures are above criticism because truth doesn't exists bla dee blah dee blah so instead
3rd wave feminism - my feeeeeeelings! (feminism turned inwards and became about obsessing over emotional trivia like 'micro-aggressions')
4th wave feminism - ah hell with it, let's turn the movement over to men.....
