Again though, Rufus, this involves a veritable bramble patch of complex legal issues, among them, a "he said/she said" sticky situation of unspoken promises each merrily contradicted by the opposing side.

Germany's more than generous restitution claims have been doled out to Jewish supplicants who applied over the decades and Poland has her issues, yet to be resolved any time soon!

For the same reasons these pipelines were build in the first place....lotsa STABLE energy plus avoidance of transit fees through unstable countries!

Pipelines under the Baltic Sea bypassed transit countries like Ukraine and Poland, removing transit fees and political disputes that previously disrupted supply.

Infrastructure Costs: Moving gas continuously via high-pressure subterranean pipes was cheaper than building multi-billion-dollar LNG import terminals and shipping chilled tanker gas.

Industrial Competitiveness: Energy-intensive sectors like chemicals and steel relied on this steady supply to keep baseline operating expenses predictable.

These pipelines weren't build for any sympathy between Germans and Russians or anything....but hard cost-benefit-calculations!

Nordstream was created (from the russian point of view) so that it could guarantee a stable supply of hydrocarbons to Germany while invading its neighbors and killing people while Germany said.... "Oh... how unforunate...." and kept on buying.

Germany cannot be allowed to be put in that position (financing russian attempted territorial expansion) again.
