Because the 4 year program here was presented to me as being based on US curriculum, which I thought would make it easier to transition back to the US. Also, I was already nearly 25 when I came here! The thought of being with teenagers in my classes did not really appeal to me.

I also don't know any non-public medical university in Poland. It's too expensive for private sector to set up such schools.

It's hard to pass entrance exams (or matura on such level to be accepted). Also dropping rate is very high. I've just checked some random forums and people say there it's about 30 % students in the first year. But the education in Poland is for free. During your times in Poland it was also for free (for Polish citizens).

I can believe it - I've heard some real horror stories about the workload placed upon Polish students. As you said about your friend - there's no time for drinking/etc with them.

It is difficult to fool the English especially if you happen to be a second rank student.Lying does not work in this case.Though as I say before people in this forum can be bullies for free in real world they would face consequences saying this stuff in the face of doctors.

My biggest gripe about Poznan is...delphiandomine get ready to attack this arrogant American...the winter weather. I always wished it were colder as the temp is mostly zero or above. Whenever it snows, it melts into this soupy dirty mess. How arrogant of me. Bad, very bad. Other than that, it's a great place.

this winter is exceptional - actually where I live there was some snow only for two or three day so far and there won't gonna be any snow for another week probably - and such weather is actually bad for agriculture and other parts of nature (leaf buds are swollen and when the serious frost comes eventually it can kill them)

This winter, I totally agree with you - it's horrible. The last couple of winters have been fantastic - it was snowing, then lying for weeks on end - no soupy mush! But this one - yuck.

Last two years we had -10 for weeks on end with the temp barely getting above -5. I remember back in 2006 a fairly warm winter period, but that was also the year Wroclaw hit -37 and there was snow on the ground till late March.

Considering the fact I gave a short personal history and this person just spouts off without ever defining his credentials, no, I'm done. I certainly do not want to meet an internet crazy in person, nor do I really feel there is anything productive that will come out of continuing to argue with him - he has nothing to back up his arguments, other than apparently hanging out in grocery stores. So the question is why should sb pay 18000$ in tuition fees to study in the number 2675 university?The answer is complicated and has to do with the balance of power in Europe and the extreme pressure by local elites to secure positions for their offsprings.

Of course this kind of information makes physicians extremely angry let's say we are bullies for free here I do my duty as superior Balkan shepherd and for fun.

Strictly speaking, it's a list of the university rankings, rather than a list of medical school rankings - the Poznan medical school may well be much better than it appears. Then again... it could be even worse - especially if it's full of Americans who can't even cross the road safely yet! Maybe he's scared of the dark like Canadians are, eh? lol.

Besides, if you look on the UK list, it lists the "Royal College Of Nursing" - which is a union, and not really a place to study in the traditional "university" sense. And they list some pretty dodgy former polytechnics as being "superior" to well-regarded proper universities, so I find that list a little dubious to say the least ;)

Actually this list is pretty accurate because it focuses on separate faculties ranking(medical schools).It is the kind of information noone wants to see published and this ranking is caused by a lot of factors.

However as I said before the value of medical school degree is ultimately decided by social factors(power and money of the parents of students they simply press for and achieve the recognition of diploma as equivalent to any other).
