Poles - the Nation of Liars?

Listen to your mother in law, she knows best, she sees you from a distance.

Yeah, I'm sure she does.

In respect of my attitude it is spot on, I don't suffer fools and liars gladly.

So you are on a mission. Well, good luck then.

Absolutely no mission, I understand that Poland has to change from the inside.

I think the point here is that lying isn't inherent to Poles. There are quite a few noble folk around who do the right thing.

Wrocław, any stories? I find that many Poles are straight up.

friends are usually sound.

some older folk looking for a bit of business, after a first meeting, might be seen as chancers.

part of the problem is understanding the nods and winks. if one understands the type then there should be no problem.

learn to play the game and then one will be ok.

we all tell porkies now and again "Yes, that dress looks wonderful, darling". "That meal was delicious".

the list goes on and in any country i suppose.

No one is disputing there are good folk in Poland, it would seem to be that those Poles living in the UK or of Polish descent in Canada/USA refuse to believe that corruption/dishonesty/cheating is rife in Poland, even though it is wildly reported by both the internal and international press.

Thats all fair enough Strzyga, but why are you turning this into a personal vendetta against Wedle? If anyone i should be in your firing line, but thats not really the point either is it. The point youre making is that it is a problem but, fcuk you very much.

Youre taking this whole thing in a very bad way, look if you said to me as a Brit - that Britain killed and tortured millions of people and enslaved nations i'd fcuking admit it, its not like i was one of them! Not come up with some cock and bull story about the person who made the accusation in order to gain some self gratification revenge on something which i misinterpreted as a personal attack based on my nationality. WTF.

Once you are at distance, you are at distance, you are no longer part of what goes on in PL, you operate your trade in the UK, you may be Polish at heart, but you are UK occupied on a daily basis. So please don't patronize us that we don't understand/realise Poland circa 2011. We are living it, not talking it, not distant to it.

Ohh its so easy to forget.

These Poles living in the UK are so detached it defies belief. They're all so used to delivering, invoicing getting paid etc.. they've forgotten what its really like.

Wroclaw, let us focus on today Phillips and Euro 2012?

This is my opinion as well, Yet their guilt of deserting the old country, makes them take up arms when anyone mentions anything that they consider disparaging about Poland. I can have conversation with locals in Warsaw and we agree on actions that need to be implemented to clean up corruption/dishonesty/cheating in Polish society, yet you come on this forum and its like the problem does not exist in the mind of some folk.

I was at the third of Piast Gliwice's matches in their new stadium. The rival fans starting shouting 'fu*k fu*k X organisation'. The response of the home fans? To shout the same. They were united against corruption. My loyal Polish friend explained it all to me. Foreigners must bear in mind that Poles are well aware of what goes on and they voice their opposition in their own way.

It all comes down to patriotism doesn't it? I can remember being on a train to £eba when it broke down and a Polish stranger who knew i was English kind of looked at me with a "this is typical Poland" look on his face. He felt embarrassed, he felt inferior and his inferiority complex fueled my arrogance with a kind of this would never happen in England point of view. I was way under 30 years old then and i had a lot to learn, knowing what i know now i cant believe i actually felt that.

Polish people like most nations are patriotic, patriotism is a disease along the lines of religion in my opinion, its inbred and brainwashed into a person from a young age.

Jeez. I know I'm wasting my breath here, but just for the hell of it:

They're all so used to delivering, invoicing getting paid etc.. they've forgotten what its really like.

What have "they" forgotten? What do you know about their life in the UK? How do you know what "they" are all so used to?

their guilt of deserting the old country,

Guilt, for crying out loud?! Do you feel guilty about moving to Poland? Would you like to talk about it?

makes them take up arms

Awww, you must be feeling so hurt because we rejected your offers of re-education...

Seriously though - were does your feeling of superiority come from?

Why are you in the UK? does that clear that one up for you?

Quick answer if you please.

Life is easier in the UK, sorry not life, earning money is easier.

POLES CAME TO THE UK FOR MONEY - NO?

Seanus very interesting story, but how can Poles overseas of descent ever understand this, it is a Polish problem and needs a Polish solution, so maybe you pseudo-protagonist outside of Poland - back off.

Neither my life nor earning money is easier for me in the UK. I am in the UK now because I was curious about the UK several years ago (nothing to do with earning a lot of money BTW).

Fcuking hell we came to Poland because we had Polish partners and we wanted to get out of the UK, only to get to Poland and realize what the hell all of the Poles were doing actually leaving. Big learning curve that.

Why yes, I am. I was rather comfortable financially in PL. Not every traveller seeks the pot of gold, so to speak.

Magda, I know and understand that I have been so long outside of the UK, I have lost touch with UK reality, I know more about Poland circa 2011 than the UK.

Awww, you must be feeling so hurt because we rejected your offers of re-education...

lol, i respect your humor.

Seriously though - were does your feeling of superiority come from?

Magda, no superiority, I will say I am more in touch will Polish reality than you are based on your posts on this thread. That aside you are a good girl irrespective of your lack of understanding lol

Thats what they all say, but in your own words youre a minority, so you could be classed as out of touch. That would make sense if you weren't lying of course.

never met a Pole that had to work in the UK because they had no money, its always a business in Poland or some kind of education fee.

I'm just not convinced that lying is the right word here. Aloof and unhelpful in administrative offices? Quite often, yes. However, that's not lying. I've encountered positivity which shows that some are trying to break from the mould. What does get me is how otherwise rebellious Poles lapse into a 'toe-the line' modus operandi in admin offices. But again, not lying. I've just read WB's OP but I haven't had the contact he has had with such people and therein lies the difference. I admire WB's sincerity, often like a Pole in that way, and I have no reason to doubt him. However, it just goes to show that he has met a different breed of Pole than I have.

That's a very dangerous assumption to make. I would never say I understand British reality better than you because I now live here. What I perceive is merely the tip of the iceberg. I understand the language, read the papers, and get most of the jokes, but I am and will remain an outsider. I see tons of things which I think are really wrong and / or stupid in the UK, but on the other hand, I'm a guest here, so I should probably more or less shut up and carry on.

And I've met lots. They weren't shy about admitting it either.

I do exactly the same job in the UK as I did in Poland. It just took a lot of work to build the business up from scratch.

Theyre not here for the country side. The same as you.

Nah not at all, bring them up, please do.

I was being sarcastic.

Exactly Magda, so we should keep to the original not not cut short for the benefit.

but I am and will remain an outsider.

After 6/7 years outsider of Poland, you are also an outsider here, things move very quickly here, if you have forgotten.

So Wedle had to say his last meaningless words again. So he must be Polish, because supposedly and according to one of the threads here - "ONLY POLISH ARE NEVER WRONG". Everyone else knows how to quit. Man you are so cheap, pretending to care about Poland.

Honestly, I wouldn't know where to start... and where to end. And I might offend. Most British institutions seem completely topsy-turvy to me. I tolerate their workings but that's about it.

and im sure your earning much more than in Poland.

And you are wrong. My lifestyle has suffered a bit ;-)

things move very quickly here, if you have forgotten.

Believe you me, I do keep in touch. And I have well over 30 years of living in Polish reality under my belt as well, that counts for something.

Success with business

Thanks, I could use some success right about now! :-)
