I've got a bottle of Single Barrel in Poland and will probably bring another couple with me before I move there so I doubt I'll miss much.

Just on the steak comments at the start...

I will take an Australian steak over anywhere in Europe, but in particular a lot of the food in England was absolutely awful, no offense to the English or anything, they like that food and I had a great time in that country, met fantastic people etc.. The food and the beer however was just something I could not stand.

In regards to what I would take from this country.. hmm it is tough, but in a strange way nothing.. the good and not so good things about places are what makes traveling so much fun imo.

I saw that Shinty was referred to on this thread. For those interested, there is an international match tomorow.
If you play the vid clip in the link you will also hear a variety of Highland accents, the one at 4.02 is a cracker ! Just to let you know that we all dont sound like Billy Connolly :-)

CHEDDAR CHEESE

The French would argue that it can be actually called cheese.

There is one cheese worth trying in Poland - BURSZTYN. Try it.

Yes, but they are most happy to eat it after they have surrendered!

INFIDEL!!! Oscypek is the one true cheese of Poland! Although it goes better with the beers from the Carpathian mountains than from the Tatras.

Makes my mouth water reading all the stuff people miss foodwise.....I really miss being able to phone up , and have a Chinese or Asian meal delivered to my doorstep , but thats the price you pay for moving to another country , things are different , i find many aspects of Polish life better than the UK , and there is no doubt i wopuld miss many things i have got used to in Polska , if i were forced to return to the UK...

I would not want to introduce too many things to Poland from my country...if i did , it would not be Poland any more....adapt and survive as they say...

Can't eat it. It squeeks against my teeth when I bite it. No other cheese does that. I get the same reaction as some people do when you scratch the blackboard.

I think it is insensitive to call the French cheese-eating surrender monkeys, so I never do.

Me neither. Calling the French that term is highly insulting to monkeys.

I read about that somewhere. The chimps explained that when they raise both hands and show their teeth, they do so to taunt their enemy and it has nothing to do with smiling and doing the French salute, and highly resented the comparison.

Shops still open on some stupid RC holiday like the so-called "Body of Christ Day", next on June 3rd. All of Poland is closed on that day. Even the dogs will be afraid to bark for fear of excommunication.

If Poland is to compete successfully with the West, it MUST rid itself of Catholic control.

i'm still waiting for America to "rid itself of catholic control".....

try getting elected to any government office in America while simultaneously telling voters you don't believe in jesus.....

oh, to get back on topic: i'd introduce tomato sauce on pizza. i will never understand that about this country. it's like pancakes without maple syrup.

What's wrong in people having at least few days off and not working 7 days a week? a person doesnt need to be catholic to want to spend some time with family.

The art of queuing!

They have a lot of experience in that, especially communist times, so much so that they are probably sick of it. LOL.

Zebra crossings which aren't half a car length from a junction, and that people observe.

Shop staff who actually look at you, smile and speak to you, rather than stare right through you or speak to their friends while serving you.

A Tesco with a proper checlout, not one which is so packed with sweets and last-minute attempts to sell you something that nobody can collect the baskets.
