you will have to eventually learn how to make pączki yourself, ya know :)
The difference between eating a home-made doughnut and buying one from a shop, however fresh, is like the difference between sex and prn. Don't forget to add half a glass of vodka to the mix to prevent the absorption of fat while frying. I mean for doughnuts, of course.
Merged: Anyone already stocked up with pączki on this Jeudi Gras?
Today is Tłusty Czwartek. Statistically (or so TVP claim) every Pole consumes two of them. How about you? Prices in Warsaw this year range from 99 groszy (with plain white icing but devoid of the tradtional chopped candied orange rind garnish) to 3.50 zł. Anyone on PF fry their own? FYI in American Polonia Fat Tuesday (known in Poland as Ostatki - the final fling) is celebrated instead, probabyl due to the Mardi Gras connection in multi-ethnic America. Hamtramck, Michigan is the pączki capital of America. Thousands flock there from all corners of Metro Detroit and SE Michigan and queue for hours to stock up, although pączki are available in all area supermarkets on that day. They even have a Pączki Day parade and Pączki run (foot race).
"Jeudi" Gras nie ma! It's "Mardi" Gras ;). They even have it in New Orleans and they sell "beignets" (doughnuts). Netherless, no doughnut for me today (too greasy and too sugary). As it is my birthday, I'll have better stuff ;)
Thanks Roger! I would prefer not to but no choice ;) Don't eat too many doughnuts! I won't but for sure will drink Champagne at lunch! ;)
I used to know a girl in the US (of Polish origin so not off topic ;)) who was obese (+ lesbian: info for Pol3 ;)) who among other things ate ... 12 doughtnuts every morning at breakfast (+ of course pancakes/maple syrup, eggs, saussage, home fries). Needless to say the girl was .... HUGE! ;)
Thanks, Pol3!). I have never been able to get over the daily ... 12 donuts (in addition to whatever else she ate all day long and every day) ;). Well, rather amazing! ;)
