Records of Loss of Polish Citizenship

Hello all,

I applied for confirmation of Polish citizenship at the start of October so it's just a waiting game now.

My evidence pack is good but I have had one question in the back of my mind and I've had this since deciding last year I was going to do this.

My grandfather naturalised as a UK citizen in 1968. And on the naturalisation cert, it listed his nationality as Polish. I understand that, following the law change in 1962, you had to be in contact with the Polish government to lose your Polish citizenship.

Am I correct in thinking that there would be a record of everyone who lost their Polish citizenship?

When did your father enter Britain?

Who could lose Polish citizenship and how?

Amendment

The amendment to the Act of 1951 specified that Polish citizenship was lost to persons who on August 31, 1939 had Polish citizenship, but lived permanently abroad and:

- in connection with a change in the borders of the Polish State, they acquired citizenship of another country in accordance with an international agreement, or;
- were of Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Latvian or Estonian nationality or;
- were of German nationality, unless the person's spouse had Polish citizenship and resided in Poland.

The Act of February 15, 1962 on Polish citizenship emphasizes that a Polish citizen, under Polish law, cannot be simultaneously recognized as a citizen of another country.
