History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

There is a book I am reading about Polands contribution to the British war effort in ww2. It has been noted even the Queen said that if not for the Polish flyers the Battle of Britain would have been lost.

Further more, Poland contributed the 4th most in terms of numbers to the war.

I think what makes Poland part of the west is mindset. The ideas of freedom and tolorance have been part of Poland for 500 years. In addition, Poland was the first counrty to have a constitution in Europe.

And Non, If not for the US the whole British Isles would still be speaking German

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Thread attached on merging:
TESOL Teaching English in Poland

I'm sure this has been covered before.

Are there many opportunities for teaching English in Poland. My idea is to start basic. Eventually I plan on getting the TESOL business certification and doing Business English Training. I have a degree in business with a minor in computers.

Any ideas and help would be appreciated!

Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

Hi Wyandotteguy

I live up in Utica. What school did you go to. Most of the Polish Catholic schools by me have been closed for ages.

Love / I fancy a polish girl from my school! [139]

Ask her out already. You don't want to know her to long and have her consider you Just Friends. When a woman smiles at you like that she is thinking " when is going to ask me out?"...

So ask her already. The worst thing she can do is say no.....

Love / Polish girls, how are they when they are in love? [86]

Hi M-G

I dont think nationality has anything to do with it. My GF don't play games at all. Her honesty is one of the things I like best about her.

Maybe she has been hurt before or doesn't know how she feels.

Love / Polish girls, how are they when they are in love? [86]

Hello

Angel thats exactly what happened with my lady.

M-G, maybe she is seeing if you will chase her, some women are like that. They want to be sure how you feel before they commit them selfs.

THe only thing I can suggest is patience.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

I both agree and disagree about Pole's not smiling.

I know when I go to the Polish Markets the workers look so serious, like they are not having any fun. I have also been warned that in Poland to smile means you are happy about something, you must be rich, how come you are not helping me.

However, mY girlfriend and her friends smile often. When they smile it is with everything they have from head to toe. Maybe that smile is saved for special people.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Right now I am planning on taking the CELTA course in Wrocław in July. Will this leave me enough time to find a position for the fall?

Love / The age of consent in Poland is only 15 [147]

In the US the age varies by state as explained above. However, someone over 18 is not supposed to have sex with someone under 18. This is considered sex with a minor.

I think non has the hots for his friends sister.

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

People are People.

There are good and bad of every race or nationality.

The more you are raised in diversity the more you are accepting of it.

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

I was offered a callan job at 32pl per hour with 20 hours garenteed. Plus 25pl cash for private lessons.

Its not my first choice. I have a few other things in the works and might take the CELTA class in Wroclaw in September.

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

It would be my first position. My whole thing is to get there.

I have a degree. I will be taking a weekend class starting this weekend.

Its a 60 hour course. I know its not CELTA.

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

It does not sound interesting at all. However, with a year of callan and a CELTA it should be easy to find a job the next year.

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

I just talked to the Profi school in Poznan.

As a rule all the schools I have talked to seem excited. I have not had much response back though.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

I have a question. This sounds like a great way to do it. However, how does a Non-EU person come there for any length of time? If I come there in a month and a half to look it would only be on a visitor visa. How can I come and job hunt and stay with out having to fly back to the US?

Probably easiest to find a job once you're 'on-the-ground'. Present yourself well, up-date your CV (resume) and do the rounds of schools in the area. You are more likely to find work at certain time of the year than others - start of the academic year is best.
