Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [338]

On the positive side, pretty girls with nice voices. On the negative, the lyrics and cheesy outfits. Typical Eurovision fare, I guess.

By Jove! The woman with the butter churn had a cracking pair ;) :D

Language / Should I learn Polish or she learn English? [83]

I wonder how this girl was getting by without learning English ?

She should learn more English as it will just make her life easier here, but he should learn some Polish too.

Just be careful that she doesn't pick up too much slang as it's surprising how many rude words foreigners use without realising it :)

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

After reading more about the case in today's Mail Online it is clear to me that nothing was done because Daniel P. was, well, just a little Polack.

Nobody cared because he was Polish.

I really doubt that.

The social services of this country are overworked and under-resourced and some of that is to do with mass immigration.

I read that yesterday too.

Part of the problem is that social services are overwhelmed with cases and just simply cannot cope. This together with the fact that they pussyfoot around cultural sensitivities means that cases like this are increasingly inevitable.

UK, Ireland / Polish Qualified Electricial transferable skills to UK? [9]

Looks like they are, subject to the above criteria. It's all about proving your skills - if you can do that, then there's no need to do anything else.

Well, I would still be reluctant to use a foreigner for such work. I'm not doubting their ability, but it still feels risky to me if their experiences are all based on different set-ups.

UK, Ireland / Polish Qualified Electricial transferable skills to UK? [9]

As far as I understand it, his qualifications are automatically recognised in the UK, there's no need for him to do anything else. If he has the rights to work in Poland, he has the right to work in the UK. Could be wrong however.

I hope you are wrong.

Qualifications obtained in another country can't / shouldn't be enough to mean that someone is regarded as competent enough to start re-wiring someone's home.

UK, Ireland / Why can't unemployed Polish people on benefits just leave UK and go home please? [240]

The fact is that many Poles abuse the system - they come to the UK with no language.

I think I am right in saying that if you are unemployed for more than six months and a national of another EU country, you are meant to return there.

In theory, unemployed citizens of EU countries are not meant to be a financial burden to the one they are living in. Therefore if they are not working, they only have six months to find it.

Whether this is enforced or not, it's hard to say but I am thinking it isn't.

I think this was how France was able to deport a bunch of Romanians who were not working.

UK, Ireland / Ive been in the UK for 6 days to relocate and im going back to Poland. [281]

The news reports I have seen tend to show people saying that they thought there had been a car accident and that Adebolajo and Adebowale were trying to help Lee Rigby rather than hack him to pieces.

Still, I guess when something similar happens again, people will have more of an idea how to react.

UK, Ireland / London is Poland's 24th largest city [78]

Sure I do the old "bloody foreigners" complex. I just wonder what is has to do with reality?

I wasn't saying that either, so just forget it !!

Who is London?Jack?

Ok, the 'people of London' then. However you want to phrase it, I'm sure you know the point I was trying to make.

Interesting information and I'm intelligent enough to realise that most people (regardless of nationality) are decent, but you don't ask if London wants to be Poland's 24th largest city.

UK, Ireland / Why can't unemployed Polish people on benefits just leave UK and go home please? [240]

Its quite simply not fair for someone like me who wants to work and wants to work hard that I cannot find another job in the same areas because of migrants.guess life's not fair eh? I'll probably end up moving abroad myself

I don't know your situation, but I do know how you feel.

I've been able to hold onto a job, but there are times when I look around the office, supermarket queue, those waiting for a bus etc and feel outnumbered by foreigners.

You're right, life is not fair ;)

UK, Ireland / Benefit cuts for Poles in The UK? [143]

Why do you want to exclude people who work and contribute just as you? You were insured from the day 1 too :)

You are not comparing like with like. When was my ' day1' ?

When I was growing up, my parents had been paying in for years as had their parents.

If my 'day 1' was my first day at work, my family had already been paying in for decades by that stage.

That wouldn't be fair. You can say that about benefits but NHS should be accessible since the first monthly contribution.

Why wouldn't it be fair ?

UK, Ireland / Benefit cuts for Poles in The UK? [143]

So that's the horrible struggle for British NHS? Abortions procedures and labours of babies? Sounds fishy.

Whatever they are doing, foreigners (EU and non-EU) should pay for the NHS until they have paid in at least 3 years worth of NI / tsx.

For what other services except abortion do Poles use it?

Having babies mainly I would have thought.

This situation of allowing access to foreigners that have only just started to pay into the system is the reason why the NHS is slowly going to the wall.

It simply cannot cope with the amount of people trying to use it.

Something has to (and will eventually) give and leave politicians with some very stark choices.

UK, Ireland / Poles leave Britain to return to Poland [89]

Yes, you are probably right there as the only ones I tend to encounter (although this is mainly Eastern Europeans generally) are those on benefits that still don't speak any English.

Freedom of movement across Europe......what a great idea !!

I don't tend to buy this business of the Polish that came here are going back to Poland.

They go back for Christmas, summer holidays and family emergencies and that's pretty much it. They have their feet too firmly under our table to go back permanently.

It would take a major shift in UK government policy which makes the UK unattractive to economic migrants to make anyone want to go back anywhere.

UK, Ireland / Dying Polish woman in the uK whose last wish is to spend last few weeks back in Poland [50]

What we have here is a dying Polish woman living in Ireland who wants money to go back to Poland.

In this case, it's because she's young, beautiful with a husband and has a young son. They seem a 'nice' family. If she was as ugly as a bag of spanners with no husband or child, hardly anyone would give a toss.

I hear what you are saying about you losing your job to a Pole, and you're right they wouldn't care if you die, but I think you have to try and put that aside here.

Help usually means more debt doesn't it?

No, not in the department I work in any way. By the time they get to me, they've already done all that.

When I can help someone, yes I do find it rewarding. Sadly, some don't want the help and don't like to face reality.

Maybe, but my job (debt recovery) tends to mean that I deal with those at the bottom of the social heap, so my views are probably a bit skewed as a result.

Quite sensible. A UK passport opens up some doors that a Polish passport won't - while the Polish passport gives benefits such as cheaper visas for Russia/Belarus.

It would also give them the right to vote in a general election which would give Labour (always in favour of mass / uncontrolled immigration) more votes.

I don't see this as positive news at all.
