You stated that Poland never surrendered like some of their "allies!

Does that mean that I deny existence of resistance movements in these countries ?

That Poland did very well surrender officially like many of her allies

Armies surrendered. Neither did the state.

What do you think is missing here?

Show me the Act of Capitulation of Poland. That was ALL what I was talking about. Don't you understand plain English ?
BTW. Where did both the Polish Army in the West and in the East get from ? Magic lamps ? And Polish Government in Exile ?

Does it really matter? If your face down in the dirt, with a big old boot on the back of your neck surely the act of saying "I give up" is rather meaningless,no?

Goddammit, don't you understand the power of symbols ? For example - why Hitler was so obsessive about taking Stalingrad ? And Stalin about defending it ? The same with Poles - act of general surrender could've depressed Poles and make them less willing to fight the enemy.

That happened in Warschau!

It was the capitol and Army 'Warszawa' that surrendered. The fight wasn't over.

History / Polish weapons and militaria - got any? [153]

I've got (sadly down in Poland, not with me):
- German bayonet Mk 1871 (a variant not for combat purposes, but parades only)
- another szwabski bayonet (don't remember the type, but I guess it's parade version too)
- Polish eagle (I think it's an officer one, pre-1939)
- Russian helmet (II WW, post war use in a fire brigade)
- some empty shells, probably I, II WW (cal 8 mm, they might have been from hunting weapons, for the house was a forester's domicile, found on my own yard)

- I also found a 7,62 mm (? - it was deformed, probably from a Soviet MG) round inside a piece of firewood :)
My dad had much better 'luck'. He told me, that when he was a boy, he and his pals found a German MG, but discarded of it. They even had real pistols as toys. Also when he was a forestry school student, they had some practise in woods and sometimes the whole group returned with German helmets on their heads !

Edit: I know you were asking about Polish weapons, but I couldn't help :) Besides, some might have been used by Polish army (or during Silesian uprisings).

I am personally disappointed to learn so many Polish people are keen on this type of thing.

Poles aren't definitely an exception here. Y'know, when I came to the UK I was surprised how people who are supposed to be pals, workmates can slag off and call names each other. Sure I use some swear words, but I don't use them in such an excess as some people here.

UK, Ireland / Posting from UK to Poland....not good! [53]

A parcel sent by my parents from Poland reached me after about a month. Just be patient (it may have been stolen, though).

The only other thing regarding Polish post is that it's incredibly primitive.

The problem with PP is that's a state-run company. And they rely on state subsidies instead of seriously developing and compete on free market.

There's something for ya, written under the video noimmigration:

greenRiverThriller (4 weeks ago)

I don't know how you got a hold of this, but thankfully it's a bad rip. I was in touch with the Dzikansky family shortly after I created this video, and have since taken the original down. A lot of Polish (and non-Polish as well - my remark) people don't understand that this video was poking at the police, but out of respect for Robert Dzikansky and me (the creator of this video) I would like to ask you to take this down. -- Mike Greenway

Can you read English, noimmigration, or universities in the UK just take anybody from the streets ?

thanks for spoiling my fun

You're welcome.

I'd noticed that comment on it, but I also knew how others could take it, especially with people like noimmi posting it for fun.

Yeah, I know that Miss S, only some people are blessed with required intelligence to get it the right way like you and me :)

"daß"

Wasn't there some language reform in Germany a while ago ? I thought that 'das scharfe s' was replaced by 'ss".

PS: I wonder why no European stands in the queue to join the famous turkish empire!!! :):):)

Yeah, it's quite the opposite: Turkey wants to join the EU !

In Glasgow it would be 'di.ck', often in connection with 'wee' :)

How about "pizda" and "huj"? I think those are "useful" words, too.

'Cu.nt' and 'Di.ck', respectively.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

All aviation experts, what plane is it in the Museum of Aviation in Kraków?

An American F - 5 with Vietnamese colours ? I've never been in Kraków's Aviation Museum, I must visit it some day.

Where are these people going and why?

A pilgrimage to some Bloody Holy Place ?
