UK, Ireland / Poles leave Britain to return to Poland [89]

If the conservative government get into power this year which I know they will it won't be just the Polish leaving Britian it will be me too lol! "Anyone got room in their suitcase?" (She cries in desperation!)

If they throw me out, I'll prolly be havin' some space in the boot of my wee motor :)

You can call your bitch 'Herman' if you like.

I am personally disappointed to learn so many Polish people are keen on this type of thing.

Poles aren't definitely an exception here. Y'know, when I came to the UK I was surprised how people who are supposed to be pals, workmates can slag off and call names each other. Sure I use some swear words, but I don't use them in such an excess as some people here.

History / Polish weapons and militaria - got any? [153]

I've got (sadly down in Poland, not with me):
- German bayonet Mk 1871 (a variant not for combat purposes, but parades only)
- another szwabski bayonet (don't remember the type, but I guess it's parade version too)
- Polish eagle (I think it's an officer one, pre-1939)
- Russian helmet (II WW, post war use in a fire brigade)
- some empty shells, probably I, II WW (cal 8 mm, they might have been from hunting weapons, for the house was a forester's domicile, found on my own yard)

- I also found a 7,62 mm (? - it was deformed, probably from a Soviet MG) round inside a piece of firewood :)
My dad had much better 'luck'. He told me, that when he was a boy, he and his pals found a German MG, but discarded of it. They even had real pistols as toys. Also when he was a forestry school student, they had some practise in woods and sometimes the whole group returned with German helmets on their heads !

Edit: I know you were asking about Polish weapons, but I couldn't help :) Besides, some might have been used by Polish army (or during Silesian uprisings).

UK, Ireland / A collection of noimmigration's threads or "STAY AWAY from BRITAIN" [978]

Does it really matter? If your face down in the dirt, with a big old boot on the back of your neck surely the act of saying "I give up" is rather meaningless,no?

Goddammit, don't you understand the power of symbols ? For example - why Hitler was so obsessive about taking Stalingrad ? And Stalin about defending it ? The same with Poles - act of general surrender could've depressed Poles and make them less willing to fight the enemy.

That happened in Warschau!

It was the capitol and Army 'Warszawa' that surrendered. The fight wasn't over.

What do you think is missing here?

Show me the Act of Capitulation of Poland. That was ALL what I was talking about. Don't you understand plain English ?
BTW. Where did both the Polish Army in the West and in the East get from ? Magic lamps ? And Polish Government in Exile ?

You stated that Poland never surrendered like some of their "allies!

Does that mean that I deny existence of resistance movements in these countries ?

That Poland did very well surrender officially like many of her allies

Armies surrendered. Neither did the state.

Yeah...well...so did the french resistance you just some posts back so belittled! There existed underground movements in nearly all occupied countries which surrendered officially to the Germans before (Dutch etc) and Poland is no difference

Ok, ok, but they became fully active after Allied landing in Normandy... Polish resistance was active during the whole war (and after, fighting communists). However, I don't see any connection of your post to the whole thing discussed there. It looks like you implying that I deny existence of resistance forces in other countries, what am I not.

And Berlin was defended by regular army, supported by Volkssturm, not by underground irregular resistance, 'student of law'. Perhaps you should take some English lessons, for you seem not to understand what are we talking about here.

After that the fight was over....

No. Polish underground resistance started to organise as soon as in September '39.

Maybe you will believe a polish source:
...Poland capitulated after 6 weeks of fighting...

That's a simplification from a page that explains Polish history only very generally.

Yeah, but on the other side swear words are part of our everyday spoken language and everybody who's learning Polish (and this is one of the reasons this forum exists) should at least possess their passive knowledge.

Work / Cheap Labour in Poland - why is there a problem with unemployment in PL? [16]

Skilled and experienced workers are offered jobs which are almost or even better paid than their previous jobs in the UK or Ireland.
I guess most Poles would like to go back to Poland and work there, but the work costs are high in Poland (half of your wages go to taxes, social insurance). I can give you an example - my mom who is an accountant - in the UK she would be probably an owner of a house with swimming pool and a brand new BMW (if she worked for a similar company here, as the one she works in Poland for), but in my country she has to work overtime without being properly paid, she hasn't had any pay rise since several years, while her bosses change cars every year. Poor wages and such attitude deter many Poles from returning.

UK, Ireland / I have concerns over the British immigration policy so I wrote to my MP. [126]

They shouldn't be entitled to register for council housing and if they want treatment on the NHS or give birth to a child here, they should pay for it. If they bring their kids with them and want them to go to school, they should pay for private education.

With such a treatment, after the fifth year I'm grabbing my UK passport and I'm off to e.g. one of ANZAC countries. Sorry pal, but why should I pay twice for the same thing ?

Stronger than coffee?

Add some red bull, a 50 of vodka and voila.

I thought it was something more horticultural. I hear this word quite a lot when potting plants, rootballing trees and so on. It's not usually just the one word. There is usually a handful of adjectives to accompany it. Many of them found on this thread.

Someone thinks that you're not 'masculine' enough then, eh ?
