He was standing in front of a massive gold statue of Genghis Khan at the time and his actual words were praising Mongolia's religious freedom dating back to the times of Genghis Khan, so in other words a long time. So it's very easy to take the most uncharitable interpretation of his words. But ultimately the people of Mongolia clearly loved his visit and that's all that matters.
